Finally covered one of my favorite projects for the @Crypto__101 audience. Big thanks to @fluffypony for taking the time to break down the important role $XMR plays in the evolving cryptoeconomy.

If its a miscrafted url then the certificate would be irrelevant?

I got an alert about a DNS affecting malware today. I suppose this type of thing can redirect you elsewhere without you knowing.

MyMonero uses HTTPS so your browser would give you a big scary warning if you got affected by something like that.

Isn't there some way that malware can change the hosts file and/or use a self signed certificate to bypass that warning?

Fully independent means not connected to the Mymonero site that has been compromised many times in the past, so thats a pretty easy question to answer. People are concerned about MITM on Mymonero (as they should be). Can it be pointed at a local DB without re-coding?

When was MyMonero ever compromised?
There has been cases of individual accounts getting hacked due to human error or malware infected pc, but I never heard of whole site being compromised.

There are people storing hundreds of thousands or even millions of USD value in XMR.  I am very glad the Ledger folks and the XMR devs are taking whatever time is needed to get this implementation right.  If you are not contributing to the code your complaints are hollow.

Ledger support is probably coming in the 12.1 release which is probably sometime this month.

That is so obviously spam. I have 100% accuracy right now, let's see if I blow it by reporting this. I'm going to report it right now and I'll let you know what happens.

I now have 1 additional reported post and still 100% accuracy.

Show off, I'm up to 92. Smiley

Just got a privacy update from Gemini https://gemini.com/privacy-policy/ .

Well in your defense I only have 11 reports. I was just saying it to point out that when I flagged the same thing you did it worked for me for what ever reason.

You have reported 38 posts with 91% accuracy (30 good, 3 bad, 5 unhandled). Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports.

I'd like to know the 3 bad ones though?

Is that wallet, or just a local front end for the online wallet?

I try not to believe the shills here, but I cant deny to being nervous.

Standalone desktop wallets.

But it does use the MyMonero backend, right?  It's not a fully independent light wallet is it?

By the way, it is VERY slick, and a VERY good user experience.

Just wondering if it is still technically a "web wallet".  Analogous to the blockchain.info android app.

Correct and I guess that depends on how you define "fully independent".

Well, fully independent might be the wrong phrase.  Correct me if I am wrong, but when you use the official GUI wallet in remote node mode it is still doing all the calculations etc on your machine and storing the wallet file on your machine, just using the remote node for the data, whereas with this wallet it relies on the server to  do all the calculations using view keys etc, stores the wallet file on the mymonero server and then sends that data to the wallet.

I noticed the pay for import feature is in it, which would imply it is using the server to store the wallet file.

Either way I think this is a very great boon to monero.

I personally can't wait for the web version of the mymonero desktop wallet which is a desktop version of the mymonero web wallet.
