So is there any plan to mitigate the on going botnet problem XMR, BCN and now ETN are suffering from? It can't possibly be healthy to have such a large chunk of the block reward constantly taken by a few A-holes running bot nets on the network..
In the last year we have seen standalone coin miners and coin mining modules in existing malware proliferate rapidly. I love the technology behind the coin, but the ongoing issues with cybercriminals swipping over 70% (will likely continue going up higher) of the reward is of huge concern to me.

I havn't trusted it [mymonero.com] since a few guys here got burned and really I only used it for a few coins which back then was pocket change, I think the most I ever had on there was 400 way back.
People have to get burned before they stop using web page based wallets I guess.

Ya, that was horrible (was it birr who lost 7k XMR wallet? I remember feeling sick about it at the time, and shortly thereafter removed the bulk of my stash), but IIRC it was resolved to be phishing or MIM, wasn't it? A strike against the internet, not the integrity of the service.
Why would people leave coins in online wallets? Well, I guess I may have done it too in the past with what was then "pocket money", actually I had left coins in online exchanges which then got hacked. A handful of dollars in those days, tens or hundreds of thousands of $ now...
A lot of us did, back in the day when you couldn't run a node on less than cutting edge hardware/connection. Now it's no big deal, with LMDB etc. It wasn't exactly pocket money, either, but it was seen as better than leaving it on an exchange.

It is going to be really interesting to see what this causes on the network. I predict at least 5% in gains over the week.

Wouldn't a proof-of-work change affect the botnet computers who can't be easily upgraded?
A proof-of-work change requires an update of the mining software, which runs locally. Correct?
I assume the botnet computers are pointed at a mining pool, which only requires the mining pool to upgrade its software during a 'normal' hard fork without a PoW change. Correct?

I love this idea! And I love that we now have a public stance from the dev team on their position on modifying the proof of work algorithm. I called for this some time ago, I have no idea if that had any impact on this being written, I doubt it, either way I am very pleased to see it.

Do NOT reuse your Monero keys for any other purpose, including Monero forks.
Your Monero keys are *Monero* keys. Using them on another chain will destroy your privacy, as well as others'.
If you want to fork Monero, don't be lazy, start your own blockchain like others did before.
Should've mentioned that in my post, this is really important for users to know.

At the DASH conference in 2017, the DASH team introduced integration with the Bitcoin-Debit card provider, which will allow DASH to be used with any retail point of sale that accepts Visa cards, both online and directly in stores. This will ensure the possibility of accepting payments to DASH for more than 40 million traders around the world. Also, DASH owners will be able to exchange their funds for cash at any ATM in 210 countries.
They won't let you buy crypto with a regular credit card, but you could use a debit card to buy from bitstamp, coinbase, etc. They just won't give you a loan (with a credit card) to buy crypto. This is the only thing they stopped. All other uses are generally allowed. Crypto connected cards are all debit cards too - you should send crypto first and multiply x current price = balance you could use with the card.
