Ya, that was horrible (was it birr who lost 7k XMR wallet? I remember feeling sick about it at the time, and shortly thereafter removed the bulk of my stash), but IIRC it was resolved to
No, it wasn't resolved and you don't recall correctly.

Data recovery was successful and we are in the process of prepping the system for return of services.

We do not have an exact ETA to provide for this process but we expect at least another 1-2 hours. We appreciate your patience and we hope to be operating normally again shortly.

All of our engines are back online and we are processing data validation for pre-trading at the moment.

We hope to have an updated, accurate ETA to provide shortly. Thank you again for your patience; we are in the final stages of preparing the exchange for normal operations.

I think you are talking about web wallets and that was a different problem altogether.

mymonero is a web wallet.  The web wallet.

Hi guys! I was not here for a long time, a year or so. I am just feeling WTF. Look at Monero mining pool hashrate chart:

http://minexmr.com/pools.html

The hashrate increases dramatically in few days, while Monero price has fallen down a lot.

But the most terrifying thing is that 70% of 900MH/s are... UNKNOWN.

Is this real apocalypse of Monero? Look, 70% is much more than 51%.

The unknown percentage is largely due to the ability to still CPU mine / solo mine.  What is so terrifying about a secure network?

I havn't trusted it [mymonero.com] since a few guys here got burned and really I only used it for a few coins which back then was pocket change, I think the most I ever had on there was 400 way back.

People have to get burned before they stop using web page based wallets I guess.  Huh

!@$@#$ Binance still down was supposed to be up 10 minutes ago. Fuck

Ya, that was horrible (was it birr who lost 7k XMR wallet? I remember feeling sick about it at the time, and shortly thereafter removed the bulk of my stash), but IIRC it was resolved to be phishing or MIM, wasn't it?  A strike against the internet, not the integrity of the service.

From what I can deduce, zero wallets got hacked that were not user error/horrid opsec.  Just a FUD campaign and/or a few people with shitty luck and poor observation skills.  I'll believe otherwise when Ric says there is/was an actual problem.  Yes, I still use Mymonero sometimes, as I have since the beginning.  Zero issues.

People!  Don't do high risk things with your devices used for finances, and pay attention to which fishing site you visit  Roll Eyes

I read a reddit thread where fluffy said he is taking the hacked accounts serious and that they may not be what I have highlighted in your post. I would link it but I can't search that place but from what I read it looks like he and a security firm are researching the reason while the site is locked. Or some such thing, as per usual my memory is not spot on.

Does anyone have that link? It really should have been posted here as well but...

OK I FOUND IT, This should have been posted by the DEVS here.

This is just to formally note that we're investigating the unusually high number of complaints of theft on MyMonero over the last week. The majority of the cases of theft on MyMonero are related to phishing sites or malware, but there was an uptick in reports and Reddit posts towards the end of last week.

It would be irresponsible of us to disregard these or write them off as FUD, and so we are actively investigating the situation, and will update everyone as soon as we're done. In order to ensure that we don't miss anything, we are working with the good folk at MWR InfoSecurity.

It would be greatly appreciated if people can be redirected to emailing [email protected] instead of posting things up on Reddit, otherwise it's difficult to keep track of everything.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/7kmzkv/psa_regarding_recent_reports_of_mymonero_thefts/

I cannot find any updates though.

Of course they have to take it seriously.  There is no evidence yet, however, that the green + FUD is not the sum of it.  Like I said, I will wait for proof before denouncing a service that has worked flawlessly for me for years.

Hey guys you better run your virus scanner over your Android device, yet another Monero mining virus has appeared.

Researchers from Chinese Cybersecurity company 360Netlab has discovered a new Android-based cryptocurrency mining malware that infects vulnerable Android devices to mine cryptocurrency, as reported in a blog post from the firm on Feb. 6.

It is the first time ever that I hear about Smart TV that can be used by hackers to mine cryptocurrencies Smiley It gets more and more surreal. I guess in the future also a fridge would be conquered by hackers to mine whatever Smiley

Of course, all IOT devices are potential targets and most of them run old distro of linux that have never been patched for that 20 year old vulnerability (forgot what it was: a whole in bash maybe?).

How come OpenBazaar doesn't accept Monero?

Is there any non BTC forked coins on it?

Wasn't there a Monero version in progress at some point?

I think the owner of dwarfpool scammed saying he was going to write one but thats all I remember.

Looks like you can get free BCH if you setup a node.

It has began.
People on Monero channel are talking about ONION.
To the Moon.
Yes DeepOnion is not as secure as Monero.
But it has potential. TOR is a brand name so for entry level user DeepOnion is a good place to hang out.
They have messaging system. DeepVault is working pretty good.
I have high hopes for Onion.
You can run Bitcoin or Monero through TOR. What exactly does DeepOnion bring to the table (other than airdrops)?

Shillers. Smiley
