Is it better to mine XMR with AMD or nVidia cards? There are GPU miners for both already, but which of the two are more profitable?

It depends of the electricity price .

It is the right time to mine, as the diff is lower than some time ago.

From the readme, I cannot find the exact way to set up the pool.

Is there a step by step guide to integrate the Coin daemon(s), Node.js v0.10+, Redis key-value store v2.6+ and libssl in Windows?

Run a virtual machine?

No, lets make it a secret alchemy, we have enough amateurs in a pool business. J/k indeed. It's simple, just read guide closely. If you can't set up pool you don't need it. Solo mining is finished unless you have at least hundreds H/s.

have anyone are mining XMR by solo  or  by P2Pool?
Tell me how to do it ?
P2Pool is currently not implemented. You could solo CPU mine from the daemon:
start_mining
You could solo mine on a single address from multiple machines. Currently if you have 3500 H/s you should get about a block each 2 days on average (more if you are lucky or less if you are not). With the difficulty raising each day I would not recommend you to solo mine with less then 2000-3000 H/s, but if you have 7000 H/s (this is a lot) you should solo mine for sure. If you want to GPU solo mine you should set a private pool of yours in order to do it (the pool software is open source), because you can't GPU mine from the daemon. If you set a pool you should automate the checking if the daemon freezes and restart it, because it's happening with the current code and you won't find blocks.

that is very helpful what you said upon, thanks a lot!

Any guide on how to set up a private pool to GPU mine ?

Yes, take a look at README there https://github.com/zone117x/node-cryptonote-pool

I always can set up a pool for you for small bounty like 0.12 BTC on Linux. But I believe you can do it easy.

BTW, you can just use my pool, it's small and you will get normal payouts if you want just avoid dust.

From the readme, I cannot find the exact way to set up the pool.

Can anyone give me 280x hashrate and most important whats the power usage? %reduction from scrypt is fine.

this might help you:

small but nice increase.

1720 hash / 1636 hash = 5,1% increase

but attention, the new version increases also power usage.

609 watt / 572 watt = 6,4% increase

speedwise its really a crazy job. 555 hash/s with my 280x with full overclock.

What cards are you running?

Are you 100% sure about the increased power usage?

yes, i am

set to -a 3 for to decrease power.
4 7950 -a 1 = 625W
4 7950 -a 2 = 623W
4 7950 -a 3 = 565W
The productivity (1030/1500) : 1710kh  a3>a1>a2
Why do so - I do not know?

wow awesome, just tried -a 3. i get higher hash and lower power usage, lol. xD

1760 hash/s @544 watt

my settings:
4x 280x underclocked
0,981 mV
970 core
1000 chip

i think i will clock them a bit higher now. -a 3 rocks

small update:

i think i ve found my best settings.

0,981 voltage
1020 core
1000 chip

1766 hash
470 watt with only gpus (537 watt with monitor and cpu mining for comparison)

What kind of a hash rate can I expect to get with a Radeon 290 GPU mining monero?

I am getting ~550 H/s with the dev fee turned on.  That's the machine reporting, not at the pool site.

Is there anything special you have to do in order to paste your xmr address into the bitmonerod daemon console screen?  Im trying to pass the address as a parameter for the start_mining command.

You simply don't have to do it any more.

So what do I type in the bitmonerod console screen to start mining?  It asks for a wallet to start mining for.

You can use any wallet public address, either yours or someone else's. For example, if you want to contribute to the developer team, you can use our donation address (see here for the address).

Yes it is true that for one computer solo mining you likely won't find a block any time soon (if at all), but if a group of people all solo mine (for example to a donation address), one of you likely will on a semi-regular basis (with 100 people doing I think you may average close to a block per day). Furthermore even if you don't actually get a block you are still helping to secure the network.

Pool mining makes sense if you want consistent income, but with only one or two computers the amount of income will be tiny anyway (<$1/day). This makes more sense if you are building a significant-size farm and need the consistent income to pay bills.

The daemon could solo mine, but if you don't have a huge amount of hash rate it could take more then an year to solo mine a block. You could paste by right click in the upper left corner of the window and edit -> paste. It's probably better to mine for a pool (miner software and pools are in the OP here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xmr-monero-a-secure-private-untraceable-cryptocurrency-583449).
