I am fantasizing about breaking upwards from this .001-.004 trading range, but I'd be happy with .006. I consider .01 to be very hard to achieve, doable only if bitcoin rallies past the ATH.

well that was a nice little afternoon rise... I was starting to get worried sad that this coin was going to do the same as it did last time this year. Tongue

As silly as it seems now, I am hypothesizing a rise to $5 over the coming months, followed by a crash/consolidation to $2.50.  Just don't expect it to happen in a straight line.  It's gonna be a crazy roller coaster along the way.

If bitcoin does badly over the halving - I can see this happening ...

"Features From the Most Popular Altcoins Are Planned for Bitcoin" - Monero mentioned

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/features-from-the-most-popular-altcoins-are-planned-for-bitcoin-1463675591

Of course the article does not mention the adaptive blocksize limit in Monero nor does it mention the tail emissions in Monero and Dogecoin. Both adaptive blocksize limits and a tail emission are needed to implement the only known solution to the Bitcoin blocksize issue.

Also Confidential Transaction was initially proposed for Bitcoin and then adapted for Monero, although it is becoming apparent that confidential transactions in the form of RingCT will be very likely implemented in Monero before confidential transactions are implemented in Bitcoin.

Edit Coinjoin was proposed for Bitcoin well before Dash or its predecessors were created. Do I see a pattern here?

Not really. It is quite obvious that Ethereum is not going away anytime soon

Eth is going to be going straight down.  The single entity Eth manipulator is running a greater fool pump to attempt to exit the market before the DAO people can dump their $130 million denominated in Eth on May 28th.  So you have that DAO + Bitcoin halving which will both crater the Eth price.

As for what you might be able to expect from Bitcoin halving from this bollinger analysis:

--pic--

Generally tightness of bollinger bands doesn't say anything about the direction, with all the (hostile) debates going on I wouldn't be suprised if it breaks down.

True.

But given what ETH is doing......it will most likely bomb out

In addition, that resistance zone (460-480$) has been tested multiple times without a succesful break. If, however, the price manages to break that, it will likely coincide with a MACD flip to green and an explosive breakout.

Not really. It is quite obvious that Ethereum is not going away anytime soon, whether one likes it or not. And more importantly we now have another big market influencing altcoins globally. Previously there was only bitcoin.

Constant dumpage is going on (and not only on XMR). Probably from people looking to get on ETH train

You surprised? Eth was pronounced dead by many, many times over last few months. And here we are, at nearly $14 again.

the merges!!!

https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/commits/master

when a monero contributor has finished working on a piece of the code (like the highly optimized database), they first get others to test out the code. Once its all fine and dandy, that contributor submits a pull request, asking the core maintainer (here, fluffypony) to integrate that new code into the main Monero code. The core maintainer then waves his magic wand over the request and merges it into the primary monero code.

And thats a merge folks!

I've been taking some time off from Math and Computer Science to work on my degree in Gender Studies[/i].

I love reading your posts and value your input as much as the next bullish xmr guy on this forum... but I'm sorry I gotta say it, what the hell??? Sorry to go off the topic, but how can a Math/Computer geek such as yourself be trying to get a degree in Gender Studies?  I would've put 100 moneros on something in the STEM fields....

Pretty clear you are reading too literally. Think analogies:

Crypto : Math and Computer Science ::  ________  : Gender Studies

Now THATS some speculation!

Back on the track, did anyone see all those merges? Clearly thats an indicator of massive buy pressure!

oh wait no one gives a damn.
