Dash gives masternodes profit from mining which has increased the number of nodes. Is this something that Monero could do? Why why not?
FOJ is why.

Yes, you can never discount schadenfreude. There is much of this complex emotion in the crypto sphere.

I'll admit that my darker side occasionally surfaces in that regard.

COPY DASH?HuhHuh?? AHAHAHAHA never gonna  happen.

I know you think Dash is a despicable scam but it could have some positive features, and the reward to the masternodes has increased the number of Dash master nodes fast.

omg this thread should be renamed... "Monero against Dash speculation"
Sometimes there is interesting information.
I read here that monero will be 100,000$ in 2030. I bought 10 so in 2030 I will be millionaire.
Such a nice thread.

Loving all the new participation in this thread.

Bullish indicator...though I do think there will be some lag time between the indicator and the price movement.

Of course, being a contrarian on this basis may be incorrect.  My first thought was that it was book-talking FUD, but it may be more along the lines of schaudenfreude...somebody holding a bag of some other shitcoin may just be coming over here in an attempt to feel better about their decisions.

Compared to the other coins in the top 15 (excluding ETH, LTC, BTC for a moment) XMR has got the best liquidity as far as I can see.
How are you calculating liquidity? Is there an easy way to see a comparison of historical measures of liquidity for the "top" cryptocurrencies (including the ones you excluded above)?

No one listens to me  even though I am nearly always correct on the markets. How many examples would you need.
Would you mind making each future market prediction in a binary form (which can be objectively judged as true or false by a specified date) along with a specific numeric probability estimate (which you can subsequently update any time)?
Probabilistic predictions are okay as long as you keep a comprehensive list of all of them. You can then test how many of the "80%" predictions are satisfied relative to the ideal 80%.
Now that you mention it, I'm surprised that someone hasn't done that with Gallup's huge swath of polls.
Nate Silver has been evaluating the quality of pollsters for a long time, as discussed here:

Being explicit about the probabilities inherent in all predictions is important if you want them to be evaluated objectively. To measure the accuracy of a forecaster such as Anonymint, you can use a proper scoring rule, such as the Brier score, applied to his complete history of quantified predictions (including any updates).

The black market alone is estimated to ~650 billion USD.
That estimate seems really low. What do you mean by "black market" and what's the basis for that estimate?
I agree. It didn't matter to illustrate my point so I just used the estimates from this calculator.

yeah, but its not like electronic cash is a new idea. its been around for over twenty years now.

these people obviously arent waiting for a gui to stash millions, theyve had enough time to figure out how to use a cli.

so whats stopping them?

In my opinion there is a bootstrapping process that has to proceed at some natural pace. For example, on the investor side, no one playing with billions of dollars can get involved with Monero at all right now. We can only potentially appeal to slightly larger investors, whose participation would expand the market cap and liquidity, making it potentially accessible to the next step of investors, and so on. It takes time and development effort on many fronts.

Secured by criminals and used by criminals...World I give you, Monero  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Yes, it's too bad about the fiat system, but we're hoping to replace it, or at least provide an alternative.

I hope you are able to get your buy done at a nice low price. Would be a shame for all that FUDding to go to waste!

Stupid botnet coin will never be worth anything. You need to change algorithm. Nobody serious is going to invest in a network secured by criminals..LOL

Monero don't need any "serious investors" to be wildly successful. The black market alone is estimated to ~650 billion USD. If XMR only captures 1% of that market we're talking 6.5 billion usd, or split across 18.4 milion XMR that will give you a price of $353 per XMR. There's a calculator to play with the values here.

In reality it's hard to tell what would happen if 1% of the black market activity took place in XMR, but this could give us a ballpark figure, chances are it would be much higher.

So assuming your conclusion is true. A network by and for criminals could actually be a good thing, and I would be extremely bullish on a network as such. This is without even talking about tax havens where you'll find trillions in value. I think monero gaining traction in the dark web would be a great start and bootstrap it as a currency for criminals.
