I could be totally off, but it seems like someone is controlling the USD price of Monero.

It's not just XMR. So many alts are in the general neighborhood of -40% over the past 30 days which translates to constant USD price, and they have tracked BTC as it has rallied. People trading these alts seem to believe that they shouldn't participate in BTC's fiat price gains at this stage. Maybe it will need BTC's higher prices to be sustained and not turn out to be a short-lived bubble.

The main exception as a subset seems to be the 'BTC-E alts' (LTC, NMC, PPC) which are down less (so up in fiat terms)

I think the fact that counterparty, nxt, monero and namecoin have all gone unavailable on shapeshift since the bitcoin price has skyrocketed is a good indication of an increase in price once the dust settles a little

Also unavailable are Gemz, Swarm, BitCrystals, Ripple, bitshares, and Stellar
so whatever

They were all unavailable before this current rise in price.  The others are indicative of a significant increase in trade volume

whats going on is we haven't seen 47 cents since a month ago!

Guys don't try to look for any divine reason for the market actions. I'm telling you what's happening and what's going to happen so let the pro speculators work, sit and wait.

I'm telling you, most of big XMR short whales are closing positions and most of them will be long in a couple of weeks.

SO DON'T WORRY, THE BIG DUMP IS OVER (on XMR)  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

(We can get a bit lower, but nothing to worry about) Wink

About 30 min. ago there was a 9k+ Monero, 10+ btc buy quickly followed by a 15k+ Monero, 17+btc buy both @ ~110

According to bitcoinwisdom, it was a buy of 27.2k Monero. At least that scare wall got bought. Perhaps we are able to somewhat stabilize now. That wall was pushing down aggressively the last few days.

Yeah bitcoinwisdom only shows the aggregate.  I saw it on polo and they were 58 seconds apart.  The first one actually was 2k bigger, I didn't add the smaller buys that were part of that buy, only mentioned the 9k individual sell order being bought.

* GUI

This is the first time we have confirmation the lack of official GUI is hindering adoption: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3rd123/private_internet_access_send_this_vpn_an_email/cwn3jbe

still good news.

Actually I have received the same objection before, I just don't post most responses I receive. This email response (which I forwarded to fluffypony to ask for his feedback) I chose to post because it was from the CEO of a well known VPN who is obviously familiar with us (since PIA sponsors bitcointalk).

I have been talking to many companies and not everyone cares about the GUI. The new db release will please a lot of people too.

Monero (XMR) - secure, private, untraceable
November 03, 2015, 04:28:59 PM
@dEBRUYNE Where are you getting your USD price?

http://coincap.io/#/coin/xmr , for some reason the current day is a bit borked though (it's always like that).

In addition, this one is a bit better -> https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/monero/usd
You could also monitor the weighted average Monero BTC, USD and EUR price here: http://moneroprice.i2p.xyz/. If you like it you could even send me a tip Smiley

Which is a great argument to get on BTC-E after this bubble.

XMR not available on shapeshift right now?  Anyone know what's going on there?
I tried to exchange Bitcoin for Monero last night and the transaction failed to go through. Another reddit user had the same problem. I'm still trying to get some response from their support.

There is clearly a sentiment in the market that most alts should drop as Bitcoin rises and maintain (approximately) their fiat value. With the possible exception of LTC. That has been the prevailing market action for a month or more.

If history is a guide, major alts will follow a major Bitcoin surge in about 2 weeks. Just be patient and load up some more if you believe this is another big BTC rush.

Yeah i agree. Although together with an infinite amount of spam, shitcoins, scams etc. I just noticed bitcoin spamming in an imageboard...

If we are in bubble mode, then we're going to see a lot of dead alts come back to life. Dogecoin on twitter.

This is probably what the Bytecoin guys have been waiting for for years. Bubble buyers won't sit down and study the history. They'll just start buying every shitcoin they see.

Then the Bytecoin guys will finally just cash out and disappear. If they pull it off, I'll honestly have to take my hat off to them for running such an elaborate setup.

Notice how Bytecoin is largely immune from the selloff that has affected nearly every alt. More evidence that there is no fact no real market for it. Either that or Bytecoin is closer to Litecoin in its properties as an asset than it is to most other alts. I'll go with the former theory.

To me, Bytecoin can only mean one: BTE https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/BTE_BTC (1:1 copy of Bitcoin)
