Guys, can anyone suggest me an easy way to download the light version of XMR wallet? After downloading the official wallet from mymonero it requires to download a ton of data which will take hours. Any suggestions are welcome.
I use monerujo (android) on my phone and the cli (linux command line) on my 'puter. I may do things a little differently than most people. To create a new wallet, I first use a separate utility to generate a seed from custom entropy, and then I create the wallet using that seed. Which means that I have to use the restore from seed function. In the linux cli, the command is ./monero-wallet-cli --restore-deterministic-walletIf I don't specify a restore height, the client will scan the entire blockchain, which is about 73 GB.
A wallet only needs to by restored from the block where it first received funds. Scanning the whole blockchain is a waste of time.
I can restore a brand new wallet at the current block. To restore a used wallet, one has to know or at least be able to estimate the block height of its earliest transaction, or else scan the entire blockchain.
As for the "daemon" (the blockchain), just use a remote node.

You can connect to a remote node with the official gui instead of downloading the entire chain.

Or even simpler is to use MyMonero. But using GUI with remote node is of course better.

I dont believe European commission will ever give such directive to its members. In more autocratic countries where that will happen I agree with bitebits. Price will increase there since it will be harder to get.

Do you really believe that Apple wants for Huawei to know how much they pay their suppliers and how much they pay their researchers and engineers. Do you really believe that governments wants to reveal their spies they have in other countries and in companies by using transparent ledger cryptocurrencies. Do you really believe any police or court system will support that wealth of people is known just to anyone. Should that not put those people way more in danger and risk of being robbed?
This "opaque ledger crypto currencies will be baned" has to stop. Because it will not happen. I mean it can happen at some part of worlds. Also there will be some part of communities that will want that to happen. But on wide scale this will not happen because world, society and economy need opaque ledger crypto currencies!
