Did you guys realize that we are THE top thread in altcoin speculation? Take a look https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=224.0;sort=replies;desc Not just a little bit. By a fucking mile. 37k replies to 8k runner up. Shocked

Before speculation was broken out it was the top thread in the whole general altcoin discussion section.

1 week looks normal

"Nothing to see here move along"

That does provide some nice perspective and you are right it really does look like a normal move within the healthy bounds of the protracted bull trend.

Interestingly too any time the MACD was slammed really hard into the negative crossover that has be more or less the end of the cyclical bear market.

I was excited about the Nano S, but becoming less so as I try to use it.  I thought when I set one up a couple months back that it was functional but a pain.  Now I can't make it connect at all, let alone every 5 or 6 tries like before.  Some say its the cord, but having tried 3 different ones (but not the one I eventually made work sporadically earlier) I can't even use the damn thing, and their support is shit.  /rant

The open source Monero hardware wallet can't arrive soon enough.

Ah yes there's another exciting thing.  The Monero H/W wallet project.  Also rumors of the Trezor getting it too...

Sorry to hear that you had problems with the ledger, Explorer. Mine works like a charm... I wonder what's up with yours... are you using Linux?  I use mine both on windows and arch linux. I don't think I've ever had a problem getting it to connect. But I did have to get the right libraries in drivers installed in arch. But once I did everything was working fine.

Originally set up on windows.  Typical message was plug it in and enter PIN.  Typical response was crickets.  Eventually If I kept trying it would recognize it and function (I set up 2 at that time, same issues)  Now I'm trying to use the Ledger chrome apps on Chromium with Linux, and can't get any device recognition at all.  Chromium gets the apps no problem.  Tried 4 USB ports, all check out with my phone, so they are good.  It's the Ledger Apps that don't seem to recognize it.  Frustration barely describes it.

Which Linux distro/version?  We can take this off thread if you are interested.

After rebooting it seems to recognize every time I plug it in now, which is about 5x better than I experienced with windows originally.  I  think I should just go back to stone tablet and chisel...

Meanwhile, WTF is happening to the price of Monero  Embarrassed

Someone should start a thread: Monero under $200, what are you waiting for?

Also rumors of the Trezor getting it too...

I have been suspicious that this was part of the impetus behind the roll out of the Trezor Model T. I think they tried to implement Monero on their original Trezor and found the hardware was insufficient to produce ring signatures. And I'm not saying that the reason they rolled out the model T was for Monero, but rather because Monero caused them to realize that they needed something a little more future proof.

Honestly, I think people are getting tired of hard-forks/airdrops. Look at what happened with Calisto and ETC. Major disappointment and the trend of mooning before fork has dissipated a bit.

this is just a very late night (and too many g+ts) post....as most of you know i stoped postin here after fluffypony's hilarious 'lets' crach the market post' some months back.

But seriously, can  someone please gime me a precis as to what the fuck is going on..forks/airdrops/etc?

XMR used to be the bes alt coin out thee,,,best etech, tech devs, best map,....this eens to heve gone to shit despite the fact it has been adopted by Dreamarket.

So, what the fuck is going on?Huh

I hve a LOT of capital tied up in XMR (basicLLY ceause Im a privacy nerd) but one thing I've realised in 5/6 yers of crypto is that the tech means nothng...its the polituiics behind the tech that a makes or brakes a project.

Opiions of oldies are most welcome, trolls please keep your council.

How nice it is to see you back. Along with the bulletproofs and the fork coin that's coming up (yuck) there is also the imminent release of the Ledger Nano (whew!) hardware wallet fro Monero. Also, work is ongoing for multisig... I think there possibly was a minor vulnerability found that is being patched hopefully. So I agree with anon that things are on the up and up development wise and as you mentioned real world acceptance is also increasing. It's a weird time post crypto run up.  The price contraction is awfully difficult to watch. That is also obviously part of the reason that the Monero price is decreasing. Also including against Bitcoin just because all alts are under scrutiny and shrinking a little bit right now.

I wish I was smart enough to be able to figure out where it's all going but instead I'm just gonna hold tight and watch the show.

Wow! Hello. Haven't seen your face around here in a while.

Development is, if anything, accelerating not decelerating. Look at the explosion of activity half way through 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K33PoKM7vOM Have you heard about bulletproofs? They will bring a space savings of 80+% on the blockchain. Code is written and the peer review process is fully funded.

Anyway the fundamentals are as strong as ever but i'll let someone else speak to the politics. Except maybe that I'll add that John McAfee is running around evangelizing for us now. So that's pretty cool.

There's a fork of Monero called MoneroV.  Instead of just forking the code and starting with a fresh blockchain, they're using the same blockchain.  This can potentially damage some privacy - but there are mitigations.
In order to entice users to adopt XMV, they're having a 10:1 airdrop.
They're going to limit supply to 12m coins.. but they're taking 1m for themselves.
The have not released their code - for "reasons".
It was supposed to happen today, I think, but they pushed it to the end of next month.

IMO, all of their reasons for a fork are non-issues...certainly not enough to warrant what appears to be a full attack on Monero.  So you kinda-sorta have to question their motivation.  I think it's a cash-grab and an intentional "FU" to the Monero community.

HATE you guys! Tongue
I'm always dry during these times. Smiley

Hey me too man. Just not THIS time. I liquidated my bitcoin at 9000. If bitcoin falls while monero falls further relative to bitcoin at the same time, I may not be going back into bitcoin when I turn that liquidity back into crypto. Grin

We'll see. I'm starting to get some signs that I made the right call but it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Good move! When to buy back is the thing. I expected 10k to be the floor but with these new players it's just un-predictable where things are going ATM.

I would expect BTC to be back AT 10k by the end of the month but i'm not betting on it. Smiley

its that time again

opening long positions on monero with monero as collateral

diversify? nah  Grin

hah been there done that! Makes me wish I still could use polo. Smiley

I wonder...

Frequently when alts crash, XMR holds up better than most of the pack.  But today it is the opposite.  XMR seems to be losing more than usual.

I wonder if this might be somewhat influenced by the fact we could be following the pre-forkcoin selloff as the original date for the snapshot was today.

A certain percentage of people dumb enough to buy XMR to get the forkcoins would also be dumb enough not to have noticed they didn't get them yet and still sell off...

Just a thought.

Yup, it's /usd is usually pretty stable lately but...

Thats cause i just bought, sorry guys! Smiley

I think that Monero is the leader among the anonymous coins. And thanks to this, Monero will become very popular. People want to be safe in the crypto world, so they are interested in this coin.
