He is an authority when comes to technical analysis and fundamentals... He says that majority of coins are s••t but has some respect to LTC and XMR.

Haha. Pretty good summary of the top marketcap coins.

Ooh an old timer's thread!

I started out in crypto in May of 2013 mining LTC. After scrypt ASICs came out I started looking for somewhere else to go and ran across this article. It's an oldie but a goody:

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=a_massive_investigation_of_instamines_and_fastmines_for_the_top_alt_coins

It was important to me to find a fairly launched coin with a future and monero fit the bill. Been mining XMR since June 2014. I made the mistake of going on vacation late last August with a monero sell order that I didn't think could possibly get filled. Of course it did so I lost a bit of my stash for much cheaper than I should have. I don't leave coins on the exchange anymore, but more recently I've been mining more profitable coins so I can dump them and buy monero. I've also got a few friends doing the same thing and have evangelizing a bit more. With the GUI and RingCT I feel like XMR is near-ready for prime time.

I've been reading the monero threads everyday for years. Feel like I know most of you. I was here when Fluffy Pony was just a mortal. When TacoTime was a person and not a fast food chain. When TrueCryptonaire seemed reasonable. I even googled "Barolo" to see what all the fuss was about.

This is a new handle because I forgot my old password and accidentally banned myself trying to get in today, but even with my old handle I only ever posted 2 or 3 times. I'm sure there are more like me that don't say much or anything at all.

Everyone who can read and write  should be a Monero GoldFish now.   But you are right I should work on sub 100 XMR Monero fish species a bit more.

Where does that fit in? Cheesy

Ha ha, I just edited and added few more for lower ranks. and Catfish is in Tongue
Monero Catfish should get you a nice retirement 5 years from now.  You just need to avoid Sharks and those bigger and survive till then. Hide in a mud.

Kinda funny, although I think there should be 1 more category: "minnow," for people like me who own >1 XMR. I sold most when we jumped from >10$ to like 50$ in a several month period and haven't really bought back in.

Everyone who can read and write  should be a Monero GoldFish now.   But you are right I should work on sub 100 XMR Monero fish species a bit more.

I  would chip in 50XMR for a special fund - Monero exit scam fund for year 2022 - donations for Monero core dev members and contributors which would be used for them to enjoy life instead of just donating for development (work work ...). Those that made Monero project go this far (and beyond) could also use some donations for crates of finest Barolo wine, wasting everything on roulette table etc ...

I would back this. But probably not prudent to call it "Monero Exit Scam Fund". A lot of people who are involved in the community now will understand the reference. But a lot of newbies probably won't get it and will likely take it literally.

Evidently there are people who take what Fluffypony says literally as they don't get his style of humour / trolling / sarcasm. Also, there would probably be a bunch of shills / trolls who would try and twist this to be "evidence of the Monero scam / long con...".

Also, I thought the exit scam was 2023, can someone confirm?

Ah, had to correct you - Mid-August 2104, in 2013 Monero didn't exist yet -

Whoops... yep, sorry my bad.  Typo, or it was "August 13" post date and I saw the "13" and brain fart typed 2013 LOL

Here's the post... https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.12126890

I wrote that August 2015 actually but remember buying the XMR probably a couple months earlier, maybe May-June 2015?

Or, actually now... shit, I can't even remember LOL.  Maybe it was earlier, could've been 9-12 months before I actually WROTE anything online about it.

Was Monero about 70 cents around then?  When was Risto posting around BTCTalk promoting Monero and it was about 70 cents?  Whenever that was, that's my entry point ... Tongue

Anyway, can I still be in the old-timer's club? LOL

Many bought at same time that was June 2014.
My problem was i did not add much in 2015 and early 2016. If i would skip 2014 altogether and buy in 2015 i might celebrate now. But I am sure times for my celebration are still to come. Smiley

Dreaming of a 6 figure XMR number and not calling yourself a Whale is not that realistic. Having 50000 XMR and even less you are considered as a strong Whale.

I got in at the same time. Prices were somewhat inflated when I made my initial trade for XMR in 2014. Right after that was the attack suspected to be perpetrated by the BCN team. Then there was the BCX FUD. 2014 was a rough year for XMR.

Come on out old time crew. Quicken is fishing.

LOL I guess maybe I count as "old time crew" even though I was never very 'involved' in XMR much beyond just buying some early on and always planning to HODL as long as necessary...

My first posts on bitcointalk were actually in a MaidSafe thread (I still HODL all my MAID from their crowdsale too) but looking back at post history it seems my first Monero-related thread post was Mid-August 2013: what was XMR price around then?  I believe my initial basis-price for the first few Moneroj I socked away was something like $0.70 cents?  Although it's probably much higher now (probably 10X higher, over $7 by now, I'd guess) as I've added more as XMR has become more successful and stronger... kind of a reverse-dollar-cost-average I guess LOL but at least overall current price is higher than my unit cost by now Cheesy

Anyway, initial buy-in under a buck counts as old-school doesn't it?  Who here has the absolute *lowest* first-buy basis price??

Ah, had to correct you - Mid-August 2104, in 2013 Monero didn't exist yet - anyway, just noticed there's quite a bunch of us that maybe never contributed anything to this project, yet we're all doing good now, even bragging about how many Moneros we've grabbed for under a dollar and celebrating bit too early  Embarrassed

I already did something similar for some close friends of mine - over past 6 months I gave away around 200XMR with a time capsule recipe - 50XMR per newborn baby for them to open when it grows up, 5 XMR for birthday but do not open till next birthday ...
Now just imagine how big Monero Exit Scam Fund (MESF 2022) could be by the year 2022 if measured in USD  Shocked
Would be nice to hear from others about this idea, also it would be nice if those funds are managed by a respected member of Monero community or the core Members themselves, I'm just a silly newbie troll after all  Smiley

Nice time machine! Those with the lowest first buy price were not the early 2014 Polo buyers, but pre-polo buyers may have got some cheaper than they ever were on exchanges in 2014-2015. My first post here was the day I registered, June 05, 2014, on the Monero announcement thread naturally. Started out mining, but quickly decided I could only get a significant quantity by buying...

Quote
I am not currently a member of an exchange, but have started mining Monero and I'm keen to invest some fiat savings (GBP) too. Ideally, I'd buy from somewhere like coin-hub.co.uk but they don't sell Monero yet (I have sent a request). Can anyone suggest the easiest way to exchange GBP for XMR? Any help appreciated.
