Lol, wut? Trolling your own investors to lose money is about as fucking dumb as Josh Garza was, sorry, it's called common sense.
... or as some have mentioned. FRAUD
Thanks.

Investors? Is XMR a stock for a company?

FluffyPalmface himself probably did.

Sorry but I do not believe this. Even though Fluffy has gone a bit down on my respect scale (he's still pretty high tho), that's NOT how the guy his personality is.

He says he didn't trade on it, and that's fine, but others clearly did, and that's not so fine.  Epic troll, but epic poor taste and execution.

Wow, that was the troll of the year. While it wasn't something I condone, the noobs crying in here are over doing it. Monero will succeed or fail on its merits, not based on what one contributor does or says.

There is no reason to believe

I think there are more than enough reasons to be suspicious about it.
Like it have been said earlier, that kind of move in the regular asset market would lead you to an investigation by the SEC

Is there proof? This kind of FUD is typical for the cryptosphere.

Do you realize the fake announcement resulted in 100 millions dollars growth in terms of Marketcap.
Do you really think none of them took advantage of this ? FluffyPalmface himself probably did.

Well, I actually think he wanted to make a point. Don't find it that hard to believe. There is no reason believe that the Monero team are all gangsters.

I don't think the devs are gangsters or thieves but FP had an opportunity to act like a grown up and instead he played the cyber punk role. And whether he believes it or not, he does represent the coin, the other devs and those of us who have supported Monero since the beginning. And no amount of saying "well, I told you not to buy it" makes up for this act of stupidity.

It's been hard enough to get people to take Monero seriously without that kind of BS.

And so far it's only cost me $100,000! But, what are the long term affects!

I would say from now on we find someone with a little class instead of the class clown to fly around the world to represent Monero!

This is a terrible thing to do to those of us who have been here since the beginning.  I didn't take out any additional buys because it's not my personal pump or DUMP machine.

It's time for a change!

Edit: On Twitter FP says he holds no positions in Monero... Bullshit!

While I anticipated this, like many others too in this thread (a few pages back, saying this would be a troll). Can't help but think it was unnecessary and also hypocritical. It does not affect me much as I'm holding XMR already for a year, and price will correct upwards in a matter of days probably. But he's doing exactly the thing he hates about other projects: making announcements to influence the price. And insiders making a killing on this. Why this point was not needed: XMR has never been a pump & dump coin. It's like one of the first things I learned about this project and pretty well known.

On the other hand though, had some spare BTC left on an exchange, bought some very cheap XMR so when this price corrects soonish, I'll have used XMR (partially) as "my personal pump & dump vehicle" (as he calls it) today Cheesy

I agree with "mnemonicsoup" that Monero as a whole is not responsible for this, it has not influenced my belief in this project at all. But that's just me because I knew what I bought so this comes as no surprise. But I do not believe no insiders knew about this. You can't make claims like that, we've all seen the "some people here saw a sneak eak of the preview tomorrow!" tweet. I am pretty sure fluffly himself did NOT shortsell, or even sell & rebuy his own coins. But sure some of his friends did.

What a moron he is.  He goes out of his way to manipulate the price and then makes some statement about how XMR is not for "pumping"?   It has to be some kind of insider deal where he essentially bought and then pumped the price higher himself and sold/shorted with his "announcement".  Either that or he is just a pure idiot, plain and simple.

I also question his actions but this is FUD.

"Don't trust what some guy says on Twitter. It doesn't mean anything"

In general, I would agree with that statement. However, fluffypony is not just 'some guy', he's considered by many as one of the head / leader / face of monero.

There is a level of assumed trust to the things he says. This false announcement was just clear abuse of that trust, rather than proof of the gullibility of the public.

p.s. I did not buy any at the peak.

On twitter, people have been remarking that there were huge short positions opened just before "the announcement".

Of course. What do you think ? Do you really think XMR insiders haven't take any advantage on this ?
"Not your personal pump vehicle" uh ?

That was an awful move Monero, you'll regret it.
Spread the word. Tomorrow XMR insider pump scam on Coindesk.

Monero is not responsible for Fluffys actions. He probably acted on his own.
