You could maybe make a new Github issue as a feature request:
https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectreI'm sure it is possible and will be implemented when enough people are interested in that. Alternatively you could encrypt your hard disk or put the data directory of the wallet inside an encrypted container.
Yes of course i could do that, but it it was better if it is fully encrypted by default, when i encrypt my wallet. Why should a coin which is made for anonymity leave out such an easy implementable feature?
The subject goes a little by the paranoia, when to stop with the security?
If the answer is, never, then is total paranoia.

Any increase in security generally involves cumbersome use.

Most people use their devices in a personal only way, with their username and password.
In principle no one should be able to see, what is in their device.
What you are pointing out is a case of insecurity with your personal device, with or without a wallet.
An example:
A person walks around the city with his wallet in his pocket that has fiat money (paper) and I am sure,
that person will not think that a padlock in his wallet (which he carries in his pocket) will increase security.
Finally if your device can be seen with the wallet open, then the key to open, is just a nuisance for you.
