With $3000 to invest, is there any advantages to either, with the expectations/hopes that they both will continue to grow? Just trying to see what others would do, as I plan to let this initial investment sit for 5yrs minimum in a cold wallet.

With your $3000 as initial investment, you cannot buy one Bitcoin. So I prefer you go for Etheriums. Both are sound investments though. Bitcoin is the safest for me and the most far from risk. But Etherium is surely going to earn some more value appreciation before the year ends. Bitcoin might not be able to double within 2017. Etherium might.

Eth i think will have similar value in the future so ethereum is my number 1 choice, maybe can be top 1 if rusia adopt

investing in bitcoin is not about cheap or expensive, bitcoin is flexible, you can buy even 0.000001 and there's no problem with it. therefore, any amount you want to invest, it's all will be right.also, you can get many profits by doing margin trading from bitcoin. bitcoin also proven to be number 1 cryptocurrency you don't need to worry that bitcoin will eventually become dust, that'll never happen.

You should buy bitcoin with one half and with the other half you should buy ETH, if you dont plan to invest in more coins the next time. For or nice and easy hold both coins are good, they are going to grow together in the future.

Just like me when i buy the zrx token and i took 10x profit in a week. What the hell is that. The good project deserve a lot of profit for me. But i prefer the ethereum rather than the bitcoin itself. It will be good in the quantity.

Bitcoin is the best if you are planning to hold long term however the market cap is getting huge as we speak so it is going to become more and more difficult for bitcoin to duplicate its value as that will need more people investing huge sums of money in bitcoin, that is why sometimes it is better to invest in some alts, not only to diversify your portfolio but also as a way to try to get bigger profits in the future.The length of the term is the determining factor to give an answer for this question.
1 BTC is better, <1 year.
10 ETH is better >1 year.
Since ETH will be more dominatin over BTC, 10 ETH would be better in long run.

I am exactly of the same opinion
by buying 10 ETH, you can participate in ico and this will be more profitable over the long term … a condition to choose the ICO correctly
In the super long term I think 1 BTC and 10 ETH will probably be worth the around the same anyhow. ETH is like investing in TCIP I 1973. BTC is like if you could invest in banks in ancient Venice and ride the profits all the way to modern day!
I would go for the 10 ETH! ETH will follow the growth of BTC of course, but in this way you will get a bigger profit. Moreover at the moment the price of ETH is quite low, you can grab 13 ETH with a BTC
I would definetly go with 1 BTC. Sometimes we forget BTC is the main reason we are all here. It's the main coin and probably it will always be.. so it is wiste to think BTC will be ahead of other coins in long term investments.
