The 2nd most popular sport in the world(Cricket) continues to rise in popularity over time!
Whatever the growth for cricket, I think it will always stay in the 2nd place. No one can overtake the popularity of football/soccer in my opinion. It's true that cricket crazy people are mostly in south Asia but everywhere in the world you will find people play football.
People play cricket too in most of the countries including Brazil and Argentina. Brazil's first cricket match was against Argentina in 1888. Brazil ICC status is associate member since 2017 and Argentina since 1974. Problem is in those country, football is widely adopted and no to very little chance of being cricket flourished there.

I am not sure whether cricket is the second most playing sport in the world but it has much fan following in a few Asian countries and so is the reason there is only a limited amount of teams playing international cricket, with the huge population around those cricket watching nations in Asia it is the second most sporting event in the world. Wink

I think you missed the articles I bought other day. Cricket is the second most playing sport is not my word but it's from the numbers. I will try to bring the links again. :-)

This edition of the world cup doesn't look very exciting to me. Last time, it was 14 teams, and this time it has been reduced to 10. Out of the 10 teams, five are from the South Asian region. There is hardly any diversity. And the biggest irony is that the decision to reduce the number of participants was made after Bangladesh knocked out India and Ireland destroyed Pakistan during the 2007 CWC. Since there are no minnows, the ICC hopes that the main market (India) will remain at least till the semi-final stage. Goes against the spirit of the game. They should make a rule that India will qualify to the next stage even if they lose all the matches in the group stage.

This is a good step taken by ICC to allow only top 10 teams to play the cricket world cup. Previously we saw about 14 teams used to play and those 4 , 5 teams were just newbie. The early matches of the world cup were sort of one-sided as we already knew those less strengthen teams will lose the matches easily.

RCB almost their to take their first win after 4 matches. KKR still require 67 runs in 26 balls and 6 wickets remaining which is getting tough for them as the required run rate getting bigger and bigger. Let see if any miracle can happen.

Lol. There is a separate thread for IPL discussion which is why I don't understand why you are posting IPL related news in a thread which is clearly dedicated to the 2019 World cup(Excitement rising).

Read the title before posting away buddy!

I go with Juggy777. I am not sure what made Sithara007 to say something like this. Cricket is the 2nd most playing sports in the world and loved by Billions.

I expect this world cup will be one of the best entertaining event in the history.

I understand your opinion on the big upset by small teams, but never expect any big upset like Buster Douglas defeating Tyson in cricket, minnows will be crushed by top 5 teams and these encounters are usually uneventful where you will see big teams scoring huge runs like a practice game.

Hey with all due respect to your opinions this is the World Cup this is the biggest stage for any cricketer, and fans across the world and everyone is excited for it even those countries who’re not playing. I feel you don’t understand why ICC reduced the number of teams, I feel you should gather more knowledge on this. Also I can understand your home country is not playing, but accusing other countries will not help let’s respect all the countries.

Let me make clear that I am in Full favor of more team playing in the World Cup.

If ICCI ruling Associate members out of the World Cup tournament then there are many valid reasons, Right or Wrong we can discuss anytime. Financial is one of them and arguably comes at the top, and other reasons revolve around finance you like or not and With due respect to your opinion, there was no need of dragging India here in this discussion without offering any solution.

You are accusing that ICCI decision is favoring Indian team directly or indirectly, which is ridiculous, Indian fans or India not stopping others from watching a game by any chance. There are high chances that you read some English report in English media about 2007 world cup failure and repeating the same here. This "Blaming India" game started from there if you don't know.

How many Associate member's Full matches have you watched till date? 1-2 or  5 which I highly doubt. and I am talking about on TV not live from Stadium. If your answer is 0 then think again who is the real defaulter here before dragging India in this discussion.

Indians love to watch cricket, and we have been watching the Indian team playing when every team used to shit on us by beating us on the ground or by their behavior. Can give you at least 10 incident with details ( on the field and off the ground incidents) but that would make the post very long.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: New Zealand announce 15-member squad; Tom Blundell, Ish Sodhi included

The squad seems very much balanced to me.

New Zealand declared their squad for 2019 world cup. Tom Bundell, a new cricketer (wicket keeper) was also called in the team. Other than this, nothing is much of wonder. Ish Sodhi is a good call I think. There's some rumor that captain Kane Williamson created pressure to call Bundell and Sodhi in the team. However, I think they have a balanced team for the world cup.

Alex Hales identifies ‘four main teams in the running to lift the World Cup’

~snip~
Africa did win the champion trophy in 2017 in Germany

Which "Champions Trophy" are you referring to? 2017 Champions Trophy was won by Pakistan, not South Africa. Roll Eyes
I agree with 3 of the teams that he selected, but I disagree with this choice regarding Pakistan. Pakistan are a great team when it comes to T20 tournaments currently, but they are pretty bad both in ODI and test tournaments at present which is why I doubt they will even qualify for the quarters.

Instead of Pakistan, New Zealand or South Africa seem like better options in this scenario.

One need to admit that Klusener and Donald did not talk to each others before playing the ball.

Did they talk with each other after getting run-out?  Grin i guess no lol

@Raja bhai is Pakistan going to beat India in this world cup? would be great for Pakistan if they can break the record this year but only in a playoff not at the end of the tournament  Grin

"Records are meant to be broken!" Grin

Yeah, nothing is permanent, this record should be broken this time at any cost. Both teams playing world cup matches against each other since 1992 and it's 2019 now.

Damn, One generation missed all the fun from Pakistan's side Cheesy
