Ah man, the NBA playoffs were supposed to start today, 18th April.  Embarrassed

If only the the world was still a safe haven,  I can't begin to imagine the hype and the freaking atmosphere, sure there would have been some competitions and great discussion threads about this too  Sad

Its just sad that the pandemic happened this year where NBA teams aren't that stacked anymore, unlike the era of Miami Heat or Golden State Warriors where star players has been constellated in a single team.
This year is different, both teams from the West and East are unpredictable in terms of who among these teams are going to the conference finals or the NBA finals.
It's supposed to be a very fun betting experience in the playoffs this year, but sadly everything was ruined by this damn virus.

We don't have any specific date for when the NBA season would resume because of the pandemic, and I'm sure the NBA could not start right away after we found the vaccine I guess we will need to disinfect everything first before getting back to the court that will take a month or two. If we are under normal circumstance, I'll really wanna go with the Milwaukee Bucks since they got top 1 on the standing board right now in the east conference however Raptors won't that be too comfortable with just an old ring right? Still LA Lakers in the west.
Everything will be determine once there's already a go signal from the government. You are right regarding to continuing the disinfection of the surroundings before the game resume.
Regarding to your pick from both sides, Both LA's teams have the chance for the finals since both teams have strong lineups, it will going to
be a battle between coaches and how the players are focus winning the title.

I don't understand why there has to be a champion this year, or why we have to start for sure, like what is worst that could happen if there is no more nba season this year and we start back up next year? Why is that so bad? I have watched over 20 seasons of NBA so far in my life, and if I can live at my life expectancy that means I will watch at least another 40 seasons as well, that is over 60 seasons of NBA in my lifetime, I think that is more than enough, why would I force players to gamble with their lives and play the remainder of this season as well?

It makes no sense. If the vaccine is 3-18 months to go, that means I am fine with missing next year as well, who cares about some stupid ring when we are talking about hundreds of lives at stake here.

This will at least refill our hunger to watch some NBA games, I think MJ game in his prime will be the best to watch. I can wait for this to be shown on ESPN I will definitely watch this with my cousins. The one team that called the dream team has also had some documentary is also nice to watch, I hope that they will air it too.

I have some news here from https://bleacherreport.com/, not sure if its the latest but according to the report, it will continue even if it will cause the next season to be delayed.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2880518-report-current-nba-season-expected-to-resume-even-if-2020-2021-start-is-delayed

Quote
The 2019-20 NBA season is reportedly expected to continue play at some point, even if it causes the start of next season to be delayed.

Bobby Marks of ESPN reported the financial cost of canceling the season is a major reason play is expected to continue, though the situation remains fluid amid the coronavirus pandemic. The NBA indefinitely suspended play Wednesday night after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the virus.

Here's  a more recent update, they are not really talking about cancelling the season. They are giving a hint on when will the NBA be back. They thought it will be just a 30 day hiatus but now they can't really tell an exact date. But they are talking about being back at around mid to late June. It's a good date but I don't think it will be safe to continue it by then if there are still no assurance that the virus will not be around. It is much safer with the vaccine but it will take some time. The article has updates since the March 11 suspension until April 17.

Here's the link- When will the NBA return? Latest updates amid coronavirus suspension

Kind of a prediction for me.
They don't know when will this all be over so they cannot run their business until then.

June is still a good date. Yes. There will lot of months left if they will ever end it fast for the Finals.
In fact, they won't need that much of months. Players already got their rests so after the Finals they could just continue on into going for the next season.
This could also get them back on their feet from all the losses in profits.

There is no possible way they could actually move to somewhere else to play the games is there? I mean I get that it has to be on US soil most probably and it would be closed doors as well but we all know even if they come back during late June or so, that means they will still have to pick one place and get everyone there, close up literally a town sized place for themselves and play there, hell maybe even be in isolation for couple weeks beforehand so they can be checked and everyone that is in, will stay in and not go out and nobody would come in neither, that way they would be fully isolated at that place as 30 teams and they can be %100 certain since everyone inside is cleared and nobody is allowed to either go out or come in.

However if they are going to do something like that, they should pick a place that is low on numbers of corona, for example they can't do it in New York for sure, thats quite dangerous, what about Nebraska? It has low number of cases and probably good courts as well thanks to college teams, or Vermont because it is one of the best healthcare systems in the USA (thanks Bernie) hell even Kansas is definitely better than playing at risky places so they should pick a place that is lower end and go isolate themselves there.

So might we will see the nba go live on next season since maybe next year the scientist will find a concrete solution on this pandemic.

Should be, "next year" but not "next season".

NBA's current season will continue. They are now in 3/4 of the season and that should be settled properly. It will not be reset since next season (2020-21) can considering delaying, limited to few games or totally no next season. So yes, 2019-2020 Season can take place or continue next year. No need to reset the whole and back from the start. It's understandable that the usual off-season activity might not happen. Unless the suspension will last the whole next year, that's the time season might be consider resetting.

It really depends on the timeline where the situation will be back to normal.

For sure it will be next year since as of now the government hasn't find any solid cure the virus and it will take many months before they can develop a fully working medicine aswell with the vaccine so we should expect that we can see the game on next year around since for sure this will be the safest year to implement since the virus of that year might be controlled by the government.

would not expect that this season will continue next year, it is just not good for the business, and NBA is primarily a business, but they had situations like this one, not because the virus, but we had lockout in 1998, when there was no agreement between teams and players regarding money involved, and season did not start until January 1999, instead of October, they had 50 matches per team, instead of 82, and finished the season as regular, this could end up similar in the summer, with shortened play-off, and without audience if virus is settled is next two months

Scientists have suggested dozens of existing compounds for testing, but WHO is focusing on what it says are the four most promising therapies: an experimental antiviral compound called remdesivir; the malaria medications chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine; a combination of two HIV drugs, lopinavir and ritonavir; and that same combination plus interferon-beta, an immune system messenger that can help cripple viruses. Some data on their use in COVID-19 patients have already emerged—the HIV combo failed in a small study in China—but WHO believes a large trial with a greater variety of patients is warranted.

But as what @harizen said, next year should be the right term here. If everything settles down, then probably they can complete the rest of this season next year and then re adjust the calendar year for the upcoming season.

It will look like there is a missing year.
But I don't think that will be a problem.
It is actually a good thing for people to remember how bad the virus is which should not happen again.

October should be the new season but from the looks of the number infected in USA then it might be the month of the continuation of this season.
They better just finish it and forget about the 2020-21.
If they can stretch it then they might make a small league just to finish that season.
Something like a round robin maybe.

There are a lot of talks about the vaccine that keeps on changing the number all the time, I have heard as close as 3 months and as further as 3 years, it is silly to think that we have literally zero clue about when we will have a vaccine. However I think it will not be 3 years, I do not think it will be 18 months neither, I think it will be before 2020 ends.

I know that normally these vaccines takes up time and that is why projected times are longer than we hoped for, however these projections are considering this vaccine is like any other vaccine scientists develops, which is why it is said it could take 18 months, however reality is this is a global pandemic so there are thousands maybe millions of scientists who are working on it all around the world, I think we could have it closer, which means NBA could return back to normal next season hopefully.

We still don't know how long the scientist can find a cure to this virus, although like you said, scientist are already working on it and considering 4 drugs already:

I am pretty sure there is a difference between having a "covid 19 fixer vaccine ready to go in a pack" type of situation and a "this stuff we used to use for x can also be doubled as covid medicine that helps the patience just a bit to speed things up for the good ones and maybe give a fighting chance for the dying ones". So what I think is we are definitely on the verge or maybe even doing the second one, the first one could take a lot of time as everyone suspected. That is why the talks are so confusing to some people, because there are medicine that is given to sick nowadays that helps them, its not the ideal solution and not the cure for it but it helps them get better a bit so it is definitely better compared to waiting for them to get better without dying, however a cure that will just fix all of this could be along the way down the line.

It stated for the vaccine created since it needs more clinical trials so that they can perfectly done with it and if they rush maybe they can create a product which may have a bad side effect on our body and it's really needed to be tested for safety.

But what we need  right now is the medicine and I think there are country who are now testing some potential drugs and hopefully one of this will show a good result at can able to cure the virus.

They can resume games but it wont be the same just like before where lots of crowds around and also it would be a bit hassle on checking everyone to go inside in the venue from staffs to players down to people who do tend to watch.I cant still picture out the possibility for any resume.
That's the sad reality, less crowd means less income for the organization, and less sales also.
I think they are not really making a lot with the online NBA subscription, more of the revenue are coming from sales in the venue and its items.
Correct me if I'm wrong, because if my assumption is correct, this means the revenue will reduce and most probably players salary will be affected as well.
Its one of the main sources of income and it wont really be enough even if they make out some sort of private game or isolated one.It doesnt make any sense..

The commissioner and trump should think more deeply about this since its totally non sense to bring back the business on dangerous situation.
Actually it doesnt really need to think deeply because life is at stake if they would force to continue the business even they do know that it isnt totally safe.
