Honestly the dunk contest needs some revising without a doubt. This whole g-league could enter thing became very good because we saw Mac McClung thanks to that, and it's a great decision to make it like that. But at the end of the day we are not getting neither dunkers who are great, but even if the dunkers are good, we are not seeing great dunks.

I remember there was this pink/purple hair dude a few years back whose only job was to dunk, not at nba dunk contest but he did stuff with shaq and all during the weekend, we need people like that. We need some creativity put back into dunk contest. It has been subpar for many years now, we need more people to make more stuff. Three point contest was terrible too but Steph part made it so much fun.

3-point contest was fun and very challenging as all players scored 20+ in first round. Dame Time ended it the way it suited him.
Dunk contest was mid. It was weird that Jaylen Brown made it to the finals. Toppin had better dunks. McClung had no competition again, so he didn't dunk very differently than last year. The NBA management has to do something about the jury. Grin
It was a fun 3 point shootout indeed.
I didn't expect the battle will be that close as they ended up playing a tiebreaker before the Finals proceeded. I was really rooting for Tyrese Haliburton to win that match but KAT found his rhythm and shot one hell of a money rack.  Cheesy

Steph Curry versus Sabrina Ionescu was also fun but it seems like Sab cannot find her rhythm and since the WNBA is not yet commencing, it is understandable. Curry had his practice every day while Sab doesn't, but it's all for charity so it's all good.

The dunk contest was so easy to predict and that is why Mac McClung was the super favorite.

Well, he did defend his title today and I wish the NBA could find someone who could compete with him better. So it could be more fun like the Zach LaVine versus Aaron Gordon era. I mean, there are a lot of high flyers in the league now and even if they don't dunk much, the NBA should consider putting them in the list to battle against the 2 time defending champion.

Agree on all fronts.  The 3 point contest was fun to watch even the steph ionesco matchup.  The dunk contest has gotten meh to me.  At a certain point all the dunks have been dome and they are just repackaging them.  Back in the 80s with Dominique and the 90s with Vince there was new stuff no one was ever doing being laid down.  If McClung is winning these things now you know it's watered down.

I'm wondering why Curry wasn't included, he could have easily beat them all.
Probably because he already had a battle against Sabrina Ionescu. It was a competitive match, but Curry ended up winning since he scored 29, while Sabrina Ionescu only had 26. In fact, if we sum all the scores in the 3-point competition, Curry would have won, as he is still at the top. Unfortunately, it was a different competition Curry had joined, but it has proven that he is still the best shooter in the NBA during the All-Star event.

As per what I read, here are the participants' top scores during the competition:

Curry: 29
Sabrina Ionescu: 26
KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns): 26
Lillard (The winner): 26

The Dunk contest was highly flawed and it was obvious today again, there was no direct metric for scoring points, especially in the first round both Jaquez and Toppin should have better scores but then because these guys are tall their dunk gets underscored perhaps because it was considered to easy for them, there was no way Jaylen Brown should have outscored either Toppin or Jaquez for their first attempts in the first round, I guess that's why we don't see a lot of super stars join the competition anymore not even guys from their sophomore would be joining if these discrepancies continue.

They haven't impress us yet, the excitement on watching the slam dunk was already gain. I didn't waitch it but basedon your assessment now, I can say it was a boring one. I just watch the 3 point shooting and I had fun watching it. I have Trea Young on my card but failed and just got tied with KAT. Then Lillard came being the last shooter, he had a good start enough to beat the last 2 shooters who are tied in score, then miss consecutive shots and made the last one which called himself another Dame time peformance.

I'm wondering why Curry wasn't included, he could have easily beat them all.

I feel sleepy but I'm curious about the dunk contest. Even if it doesn't have the flavor of the old years, last year McClung brought some excitement back to the contest. I want to see if he will do something different this year. I'm not sure if Jaylen Brown and Jaime Jaquez Jr. are up to the challenge, I can't imagine how good they can dunk. I wonder if Jacob Toppin is as good as his brother Obi. I've never followed him either. For now, with the limited information I have McClung seems to be the favorite again. I hope we can see surprise performances from the others.

I thought I’d read that Jalen Brown will be the first All Star to compete in the contest in 5 years. I guess that’s the only thing I’m interested in seeing, but I’ll probably just watch the highlights on YouTube tomorrow.

I am doing the same. I don't see any advantage in watching it life.
Over the last years the dunk contest, as we all know, is not that exciting. Of course here and there are some good dunks but nothing spectacular. McClung said he has something nice in store that was never shown in a dunk contest, so let's see.

Often there are many missed attempts to watching a highlight reel makes more sense.

Anyway, I hope the Gleague rep McClung goes back to back. Too bad he still didn't make it in the NBA, he truly has the heart and also the skill, just not the size.

Bucks has lost 7 out of their last 10 games. Doc Rivers will probably not find any job at all in the NBA after this one. I am sure that he had some issues before this, I mean he shouldn't even be hired here, at this point I feel like he has buddies around the league that hires him, because if I owned a team, I would pay Doc Rivers not to coach my team, let alone pay him to coach it.

The fact that they fired their coach that made them so good, and just get one that made them so bad. Players are the same players, I don't know what changed so quickly but they just suck now. In any case, it is All-Star weekend, and we are going to have some fun times, it is going to be great tonight, I like it, the lack of defense is terrible for the past 10 years or so, but it is still fun to watch.

Isn't it what we are saying as we are all surprised to see them fire their coach who are have bring them as one of the best team in the East and yet the management is not contented with it? That is really poor management on their side, I mean why fix when nothing is broken? Now, they will have to pay the price as the team is now struggling with Doc Rivers and they say that they are going to improved their defense, but so far, everything is a failure to them. And what's going to happen if they choke on the playoffs? Doc Rivers has history with Clippers and then the Sixers.

Yeah, for now let's leave it like that, we have the All Star weekend and so as fans we should be enjoying this one, even for the players who are participating. Looking for the 3 point competition between Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu. I'm not going to bet, but I will go with Steph Curry here, the pressure must be too much for Sabrina in this kind of stage and obviously, she is not used to it.

Yeah I'm not a huge doc dlfan but give it some time.  It's a small sample.  Let the playoffs play out and see how he positions his team then.  He is probably trying with different rotations trying to figure out the team still.  Mid year take over is extremely tough.

Amd yeah it's not a great basketball game the all star game but still fun.

What make it worst is that the new coach of the Pistons is the former coach of the Suns, and so there could be war of words between Monty and how the investigation will turn out. Not sure though but I think the police will have to be involved here not just the NBA to find out what really cause Stewart to act like in out of the court.

Could be suspension for him in this case again and losing some money.

The police will do their job, but it's just a simple problem since after that the player that was punch was still able to play. I think the bigger sanction here would be coming from the NBA since it could be penalty (money), suspension (still money since no pay), and his future in the NBA. We know they don't tolerate this kind of behavior, unless he is a superstar and the NBA will lose a lot of money getting him out of the equation.

And hopefully this will not escalate if ever this two will meet again in the basketball court.
It happened already and sanction will be impose soon, he or they will learn their lessons.

Anyone heard of punching incident prior to the Suns vs Detroit games, wherein the Suns won?

Quote
Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was arrested for assault Wednesday for punching Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks at the arena hours before the teams played.

Phoenix police said Stewart was issued a citation and released. Stewart was already listed as out for the game because of a sprained left ankle. Eubanks had six points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes in the Suns’ 116-100 victory.

https://www.nba.com/news/drew-eubanks-isaiah-stewart-altercation

It just caught my attention as I vividly remember that him and Lebron has also some altercations during their games wherein James "accidentally" elbow him that causes blow to flow and Stewart didn't like it and then he turn into a gangsta going after James and it took some of his team mates to restrain him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIMw4mPRz6Y

We can't blame him on his reaction, because whether it's accidental or not, you saw his face bleeding so he'll react on that.

However, this news that came up was before the game, so there must be some problem on his side for punching a player which I think the NBA will be investigating and find out who is at fault and sanction will be impose to the one. Well, it's probaly him since he was the one that was arrested.

Since he didn't selected, Domantas Sabonis made crazy triple-double averages. He made 18 triple-doubles this season. It's really ridiculous that he wasn't selected. If he played for a Los Angeles team, he would have been selected. When you're in Sacramento, it's tough.

I hate this narrative that people always keep on saying. I mean, Domantas deserves to be an All-Star, but why is it always going to be against the Lakers? Why Anthony Davis? Anthony is having a great season; he deserves to be an All-Star too. He is taking care of himself and doesn't miss games that much compared to his past few seasons. Also, he is arguably the best player in the Lakers right now based on how he plays.

And looking at the standings, the "winning" Sacramento Kings are just one win away from the "losing" Lakers. Also, all-star reserves are voted for by the head coaches of the NBA teams and not fans, so if Domantas is playing for the Lakers or any Los Angeles team, I think it wouldn't matter because fans are not the ones who are voting for the reserves.

If we are going to compare Domantas to any of the All-Stars right now, I think it should be KAT. For me, Domantas should've replaced KAT. Towns is inconsistent most of the time, and I think he became an all-star because of his 62-point game against the Hornets and because they are number one in the West.

Speaking of All Star Snub, I saw some post on X showing of images of Fox of the Sacramento Kings as promo for the All Star. I'm not sure though if this is recent or what, but if this is true then it's like rubbing it in and a big mistake on the part of the NBA to have a picture of Fox, but they totally ignored him and didn't get the nod to play for this year's All Star.

Same with Sabonis, playing great and I think him and Jokic are fighting for that triple double title for this year.

But then again, perhaps these two didn't get the votes from fans or maybe the NBA snub them for this year.

I know that sports leagues such as the NBA and NFL, even the MLB..to a lesser extent have been trying to mix things up a bit and make their respective sports more interesting or entertaining, but like you I liked when the rising stars game was simply Freshman vs Sophomores.  I also don't like how they changed up the All Star game itself, not just the simple East vs West, 4 quarters played.  It's just easier to gamble on the game that way.  Not that it's a very smart weekend to bet, still makes it more exciting.

I haven't even seen who's in the dunk contest, will have to check it out.

In recent years, I also don't like the changes that have taken place in the NBA all-star weekend. It seems to me that the NBA management believes that the old format of the event is no longer relevant, and now they are just experimenting with it, trying to find the best way to get the audience interested again.

If they want to attract the attention of the fans, they just need to go back to the events of the past years. NBA used to be much more fun, we would wait with great excitement for Allstar Weekend to start. Now Allstar Weekend has started, but people don't even talk among themselves, and no one enjoys the mistakes they made in dunk contests. I think we need to go back to the old years as soon as possible
