No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small

I am curious how many are watching the All-Stars weekend games these days. Is the rating growing and becoming better than in the old days?
We thought it was boring but based on report they have a high viewership this 2024 all start.

I still watch it but mostly not all of them and there are events that I haven't finished. I felt like the older versions were better, especially in the East vs. West All-Stars where they are playing for real even if not 100%. The older All-Stars weekends were at the level of I cannot miss events. Now, I have no problem missing them especially if there are better options to do or watch.

Definitely, I'm with you on that. The old All-Star format is better for me, and probably for most of us here. I don't know what improvements they'll have to make, but at least they should listen to our sentiments so they'll know that there's a need for improvement.

Basketball is not about shooting from long distance. It was the worst all star match in years. Nobody defended, there was no excitement, they just dribbled and scored. If I thought it would be this boring I wouldn't watch it at all. Even last year's match was better, there was at least some competition. This time it was really bad

I do agree, every year, the All Star is getting worst. They do get in the old format where we fans are asking for, but everyone is showing their outside prowess, Lillard, Haliburton. KAT dunking and scoring 5-0.

But the East is all for the 3 points, Jokic though, living his moniker of being a Joker, him and Luka.

Just imagine if this two can be team mates in the future. Unfortunately, I do agree that this All Star weekend is becoming worst, the only notable for this year is Steph vs Sabrina, which give the NBA views.

All are having their own fun stuff just being present without any competitive mindsets, those golden years where competitiveness is really being witness by every fans and loves how their favorite stars working and trying to impress both in defense and offense, but the years has been passed and young generation stars are no longer interested, they just show up and play mking sure that it will ends up without getting any injuries.

Hopefully NBA will find ways to bring additional entertainment, just how they put Step vs Sabrina more fof those new ideas to cover the boring all-star main game.

The NBA should make a move on how they can save this dying NBA All Star. They actually did a great job in 2019 and 2020, but after that, the trajectory of the NBA All Star is on a downward trend again.

I think the NBA should put money in the All-Star game, like they did in the In-Season Tournament. This might change the players mindset when playing the All-Star game.

There is a prize for the winner,  even on the losing team, and that is per player. Maybe they just don't feel the prize since they are high paid players, they are making millions per season while the prize in this competition isn't that much.

Here's the full details if you waanna read.

Quote
How much do players earn for winning the NBA All-Star Game?
The NBA doubled the prize for All-Star winners in 2018.

After initially setting the bar at $50,000 for each winning player in the most recent collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the league increased the payout to $100,000 for the 2018 All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

How much do losing players earn in the NBA All-Star Game?
While players from the winning team got a pay bump in recent years, players on the losing team still make the same $25,000 that is listed in the CBA.

Players voiced that the difference in pay between winning and losing players could be viewed as an increased incentive to compete more intensely during the exhibition.

Allstar game is 1 word? LAME!
We have now reached a new low point in my opinion.
They don't even play D in the 4th quarter anymore.

Just watched 20min of "highlights" on youtube, but there weren't any. Well the 2 half court shots by Dame were nice, that's it.
At least Steph, Luke and the Joker were somewhat entertaining, especially with the Joker missing dunks and laughing with Luka.

But the rest, cherry picking dunks/layups and 3s 3s 3s. All they do is shooting 3s. So boring. You can tell that the audience was also kind of sleeping as some point.
Of course it' supposed to be entertaining with very low intensity but this level really is nothing worth watching anymore. In the past it was so much fun to watch this game but now the multi millionaire ballerinas just don't care about this even.  Cry

I agree; this all-star is kind of boring. I mean, some of the past few stars have been boring too, but this one is on another level. Everyone is spamming threes and does not play defense. Especially for the East, in the early part of the game, West was trying to play some D and run some plays, but East kept on shooting threes, and from that point on, West gave up, and it is now a battle of threes. It is like you are watching pick-up games, but the difference is that the NBA players are the ones who play. Some of the players don't even try, like Luka and Jokic. I don't know if they just want to risk getting injured or if they just don't want to play.

I think the only perks in this All-Star are the funny moments of the players.

Luka Doncic missed a dunk. It was so bad, like the Draymond Green short dunk.
Nikola Jokic trying to make a highlight dunk, yes that was funny too.
Tyrese Haliburton trying to revive the Jason Williams pass using the elbow.
The mic'ed up discussions, Lebron, Steph, and more.

And then the amazing start of Tyrese too, 5/5 threes until he did a heat check and missed.

I don't know what Lillard is thinking but he could easily give that All-Star MVP to Tyrese but I guess he badly wants the Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP award. Well, he got it. Perhaps next year he won't play like that anymore.
Let's just say it's an entertainment on offense. They won't play defense, this ain't the 90s anymore and they are more aware of their health than being competitive.

Congratulations to the East team and thank you.  Cheesy

This is how all star now ever since Lebron becomes the leader of NBA. I agree that it’s boring because there’s no real competition on both team. They are just letting each other do a highlights and the only defense on this game is when a player missed their shot.  Cheesy

I hope old All Star spirit will be back again. Probably include some rewards that will benefits the team or players that involves on it aside from showcasing their skills without D because that’s what they are always doing on regular games.

Not the kind of result I was expecting in the all star game. I thought this will be a close game but it turns out the East have dominated the game, they are now up by 22 points in the 4th and there's no way the West will be able to come back. Competition will be between Lillard and Brown now, let's see who will win the All star MVP.
Lillard wins MVP, achieving two accomplishments this All-Star: winning the 3-point shooting contest and the MVP title.

However, I agree with @AHOYBRAUSE; this All-Star game is boring to watch. They don't play defense, and all they do is just shoot from the outside. What about the highlights? People want to see some dunks and a more competitive game. I thought the essence of this All-Star event is to see the best players facing each other, and it seems like we aren't experiencing that since they just love to shoot from the outside, probably to avoid injuries. But it doesn't make sense; it's not fun, and I'm one of the many who doesn't like it.

Just look at these stats:

West: 80-143 overall FG (71 3PA), 71/143 (50%) attempted from 3 point area
East: 83-146 overall FG (97 3PA), 97/146 (66%) attempted from 3 point area

So, the team with a high volume of 3-point shots won the game.

I just think nba players are generally uninterested in the dunk contest or at least enter.  Like I said all these dunks are just being re packaged and super stars don't want to look bad on TV.  3 point contest is always going to be interesting because it's not about creativity but rather who can drop the most in.  Looking forward to tonight's game.  Just hope it nails the under 364.

This year, I am more interested to see who wins in the 3-point contest than the slamdunk competition because after Lavine did what he has done with the kind of dunks he showed the judges, it's hard for anyone to come up with a new style and creativity because they are also limited due to their height and high jumping capability. I think next year they will gonna change the way they judge this competition and might come up with some new plan let's just wait for their updates because slamdunk contests are no longer fun since no one can make another historical dunk unless he is uniquely talented.
If they focus on the entertainment, they can get those dunkers outside the league and compete on all-star.

Allstar weekend is purely for entertainment for the fans to go see their favorite superstars in one setting, so yeah it is the main focus no doubt. And no, they can't have a dunk contest without involving any NBA players, otherwise it is not called "NBA" slamdunk contest with the outsiders competing for the contest. So, they could actually hire a pure dunker outside the league with a collab with an NBA player.
We can't blame those NBA players who's had a boring dunk since it is not what they're trained for in the first place. Though there are a few talented dunkers like Mac, Lavine, VC, and Aaron Gordon, but that's pretty much it.
I really think the NBA needs to have a collab with the pure dunkers outside the league to work with the NBA players who would like to participate in the dunk contest, this way the dunk contest will be more exciting and fun to watch.

I mean if somebody here watched the show "Dunk King" way back years ago, you will see dunks there that even the NBA players can't even do. I had an opportunity to watch some of its episodes and I would say that some of the dunks there are on par with how LaVine and Gordon competed a few years ago. Most are dunks that NBA players can't even do.

Aside from the first option that I gave, one option that they can do is to increase the prize so more players are attracted to join. There are some players who don't want to join because of the low prize, and if the management hears them and they want to have better players in that contest, better make some adjustments like a prize increase.

Another is to just remove the Slam Dunk Contest completely, but of course, this will not happen so the best option among the 3 is to get those dunkers outside the NBA, compete, and entertain the fans. That way, fans will be way happier than seeing these NBA players making amateur dunks.

I hate this narrative that people always keep on saying. I mean, Domantas deserves to be an All-Star, but why is it always going to be against the Lakers? Why Anthony Davis? Anthony is having a great season; he deserves to be an All-Star too. He is taking care of himself and doesn't miss games that much compared to his past few seasons. Also, he is arguably the best player in the Lakers right now based on how he plays.

And looking at the standings, the "winning" Sacramento Kings are just one win away from the "losing" Lakers. Also, all-star reserves are voted for by the head coaches of the NBA teams and not fans, so if Domantas is playing for the Lakers or any Los Angeles team, I think it wouldn't matter because fans are not the ones who are voting for the reserves.

If we are going to compare Domantas to any of the All-Stars right now, I think it should be KAT. For me, Domantas should've replaced KAT. Towns is inconsistent most of the time, and I think he became an all-star because of his 62-point game against the Hornets and because they are number one in the West.

Well, he deserves a seat, unfortunately, he was not voted for the spot so that was ashamed he is really quite good at making those triple-doubles the problem is his popularity is not soaring up maybe the blunders of getting entangled with Draymond Green when Sabonis hug his leg, but anyways he is not that popular for certain kind of ways so yeah I really think his skills deserve being in the All-star but we can not get out that many fans don't want him,

While Anthony Davis is 100% deserving of the spot and there is no doubt about it he is really that popular and comparing it with Domantas Sabonis well it will not amount to anything at all when compared to the likes of him.

Honestly the dunk contest needs some revising without a doubt. This whole g-league could enter thing became very good because we saw Mac McClung thanks to that, and it's a great decision to make it like that. But at the end of the day we are not getting neither dunkers who are great, but even if the dunkers are good, we are not seeing great dunks.

I remember there was this pink/purple hair dude a few years back whose only job was to dunk, not at nba dunk contest but he did stuff with shaq and all during the weekend, we need people like that. We need some creativity put back into dunk contest. It has been subpar for many years now, we need more people to make more stuff. Three point contest was terrible too but Steph part made it so much fun.

That was crazy the 1st dunk of McClung should have been at 50 and not at 48 scores, it should finished the contest from there but yeah the judges wanted the Contest to continue so they gave given that kind of score, but that was really a unique dunk the number of creativity from that 1st dunk was really something, and yes it was a great decision indeed to include him a G league player to be in this dunk contest for sure the level of uniqueness from a certain individual is needed in this contest as it is really getting congested in any way as there is a little option to make right now in the level of creativity and for me Mac McClung does deserves to play in the NBA aswell.

Yup, unless there's  another unforgettable dunks that can be created  as most of the time slam dunk competition shows similar attempts just twisting something but not as appealing as it was before,  in terms of 3 point contest  Dame win another one, just made that last shot to beat Towns just wondering  maybe if Curry joined the contest  he will win proving again that he's the greatest shooter by winning his own competition.  Congrats to all who made their picks and win during the contest.

Dunk contest was mid. It was weird that Jaylen Brown made it to the finals.
You are too generous giving the event a mid score. One good participant and the rest were kinda trash.
Brown's dunk over a sitting midget influencer was the mid in that contest.

It's hard to argue against this. I don't know if it's their way to encourage more of the allstars to participate in the dunk contest because "we got you"

3-point contest was fun and very challenging as all players scored 20+ in first round. Dame Time ended it the way it suited him.
Dunk contest was mid. It was weird that Jaylen Brown made it to the finals. Toppin had better dunks. McClung had no competition again, so he didn't dunk very differently than last year. The NBA management has to do something about the jury. Grin

The judges though, it seems that they want Jaylen to be in the finals with McClung. But it was a boring dunk contest and could be one of the worst we have seen in years. As I have predicted, Curry will will over Sabrina in their own 3 point shoot-out.

Dame time, he needs to get that last ball to win and so he did. But obviously, fans are disappointed on the dunk contest. They should really get players that can put highlight reel during All Streak Break. They have to bring McClung just to hype it and so it's those NBA players lost to a G-leaguer.
