As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Carmelo Anthony a future protected first rounder to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange of Dennis Schroder. The Hawks will also trade Mike Muscala to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Justin Anderson.

Carmelo Anthony won't remain in Atlanta, his contract will be bought out and he'll be free to sign with the Rockets as a free agent. Oklahoma City will also receive Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot from Philadelphia.

Just a follow up. It's a good reading here about that three-team trade:

Why this makes sense for the Thunder

Why this makes sense for the Hawks

Why this makes sense for Carmelo Anthony

On a positive note, looks like everyone involved won and gets an advantage. Let's see what will happened next.

Now, the real threat in the East will be the Raptors, they still have a good point guard and I am sure Leonard will like the challenge to bring his team
in the NBA Finals now that the cavaliers are gone. I like the move by the Spurs, it favors the Raptors IMO.

Just because Kawhi Leonard is "Kawhi Leonard" does mean that they are now the real threat on the East. Maybe one but still I don't considered them as the main threat. There is Boston Celtics with the return of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward (expected) plus their promising young stars, there is also Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers and also Cleveland Cavaliers which I expect will now can play more freely without pressure.

It favors the Raptors if they able to reached the finals or only if Kawhi will surely stay with them.

I just remembered the playoffs of Raptors against the Cavaliers.
Game 4 where DeRozan was on bench because of his off night game.

I think that is already a clue that they will be trading him. Who would bench a superstar like that for a lot of minutes and that is the playoffs. It should not happen. They are already throwing him away even if the game is not over.

That was Casey's fault. He also benched DeRozan at Game 3. Maybe one of the reason he got fired by Raptors management.

I guessed the trade was unexpected and not really part of the plan.

BREAKING NEWS!

The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to trade Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick, league sources tell ESPN.

Toronto's first-round pick to San Antonio is a protected 1-20 selection. After one year, it becomes two second-round picks.

A trade call with the teams and the NBA league office is scheduled to begin shortly.

Very interesting trade! I doubt anyone could predict this.

Kawhi Leonard was considered one of the top 5 players in the NBA not too long ago, this is shocking to say the least.  Poppovich always knows what to do so I trust his opinion.

It was not a surprised that Leonard was traded, But was surprises me is the team he will be going to. I think Toronto did a good move here as Leonard is more valuable than DeRozan in my opinion. DeRozan choked during their series against Cleveland. So another drama has ended. I guess San Antonio has started to rebuild the team again with the departure of Parker and Leonard.

Did the San Antonio management just made an error or are they really making the value of Leonard as a smaller one because of the injuries?

The San Antonio Management is not making any error here, it is not that they are making the value of Kahwi Leonard smaller, it is just that as far as I know, Kahwi are the one who don't want to be in the team. He do not want to be in Spurs since that is the news since the start of this year. The injuries made the Team and Kahwi Leonard more distant as the article that I've read said it. Here's the LINK.
Sure they are not making an error because it take them a lot of time to decide what team Leonard will be traded.
In return they have a superstar in the person of DeRosan, but have to admit, a healthy Leonard is way better than DeRosan, I am not a fan of this guy.

DeRosan is a great player but yeah Kahwi Leonard is far more better than DeRosan. A lot of people are saying that Kahwi is a great player not because he has a great plays but also because he is the one that can really guard the King, Lebron James. At first I never thought that no one can really guard Lebron since his play style of using his big and strong body to pass his opponents but I guess Kahwi is not affected by that.

People keep saying that derozan is worse than kawhi and toronto got good return. However the cold blooded announcements made from toronto will hurt them in the future when they want to sign Free Agents or even try to resign their rookies will be harder. They have created a place of work with "this is a business in the end" idea however than players will act accordingly
to them.

Derozan will be fine he will play for the best coach in the game, kawhi will be fine and leave after a year, toronto is the one that got screwed.

You are right about playoffs. It is time to say good bye for DeRozan.
I think, Raptors will be stronger this season with the new players.

Not sure about that decision, letting three superstars in one season, Parker, Green and Leonard,  though Derozan can score and can work with coach Popovich system, maybe the team have a set of plans we never knew but after this trade I'll be looking forward to Kawhi's journey to the east let see
how Raptors will handle him as a star.

Well honestly that was completely unexpected. Toronto wasn't even in the picture when teams were trying for kawhi lol. I guess it's a good one with derozan getting a chance to be under pop and kawhi getting his own team in the east. Makes it a little more interesting :p
Now the Kawhi Leonard saga is over and the trade is unexpected. I predicted Lakers or 76ers but as they always say "expect the unexpected" Cheesy.

Lets see the starters of Raptors. Lowry as PG, SG is vacant as I don't know any good SG but only DeRozan or maybe VanVleet or Danny Green. SF will be the position of Leonard maybe and Ibaka will be the PF and Valanciunas will be the Center.

What is important now I think is that Leonard has left the Spurs now. Maybe the reason why DeRozan has been traded is because of what happened to them in the Playoffs against the Cavs where they got swept and worse, DeRozan didn't played well in the last 2 games in the court of Cavs.

The East got stronger now. The question is will Kawhi play the whole season and the Playoffs now that his injury is gone now.

but the matter of fact is, Kawhi wanted out, it's the rumor says or the news like in the link.
Yeah this is all that matters, he just want to be free and get out of Spurs and here's the link for that news.

Sources: Kawhi Leonard wants to leave San Antonio, eyes Los Angeles

He's disappointed on how he was handled by the Spurs management regarding his injury problem.  Undecided

I think they are just making it seem like it's the injury but the matter of fact is, Kawhi wanted out, it's the rumor says or the news like in the link. And for your information Distinctin, it's DeRozan, not an S. (Just noticed it). There is news that says DeRozan can or cannot make it in the West all-star team but it's not really the time to think about that but still, can he still do it?

I dont get where the trade is coming from.

Green and Leonard against a very healthy DeRozan. Hmmm. I will look deeper with this. Analysts might have some different views.
In my opinion, Leonard will join Lakers next summer. Actually he might have already signed pre-contract with them. He joined Raptors to recover from an injury and to try to regain old form.
Spurs were sure that they would lose Leonard next summer, so they simply didn't want to leave empty-handed and get nothing in return. Within this deal, they got one DeRozan who can be considered as superstar. Spurs will be in top 5 on West, that's for sure.
And if I am right, Raptors will go full rebuilding.

I don't know if kawhi can make it to the top 16 teams in the league. If the new format for the playoff that only 16 teams either it's all from the West or east will be realized, then it would be hard for Toronto to go for a playoff spot.

Toronto Raptors is on the list and negotiations between them and San Antonio Spurs are now on 3rd week if Im not mistaken but Im not expecting they will be the next team for Kawhi.

But apparently, DeMar DeRozan is unhappy with the trade. Neither do I, as I see DeRozan's effort just to help Toronto Raptors always be on top of the Eastern Conference standings.

It's a gamble after all for the Raptors because we all know that Leonard will hit free agency next season so there's a possibility that he may left.

a) Once free agency begin next year, they can offer max contract to Leonard to stay with the team. Damn that lots of money I believed.
b) If Leonard declined it, Raptors can market a big player offering the same value or close to what they can offered to Leonard or just do the normal market without targeting a big name.

Don't know Leonard's plan. Too much of drama.

Kawhi Leonard will just stay there for 1 season and he will transfer to other team. Toronto Raptors I think is  aware of this but I don't know why they moved Derozan for other team. It's not a part of rebuilding process if Leonard will not stay to them.

First they fired the Coach of the Year, Second they trade their All-Star caliber player and what's next? Maybe I will agree to you that they risked it thinking they can offered a max contract to Leonard next season.

That news is unexpected.
