I'm not a fan of him but whenever there are old timers that are announcing their retirements I'm also thinking that I'm getting old. Too many legends are going to be added to the list as well. I don't want to see any more of these retirements.

Dirk Nowitzki and Vince Carter are I think the next ones. They aren't veteran. They are now oldies lol. 40+ age.
Oh boy my boys Dirk Nowitzki and Vince Carter I forgot that they are still playing and I've heard that Vince is playing for his last season, this year. Man, we are growing old and these prime superstars are also retiring soon.

LMAO, I know that you still remember Vince Carter Slam Dunk in 2000 mate. That's 18 freaking years ago.. So we are definitely getting older as well.  Grin. Dirk on the other hand is inching closer to Wilt record plus he only missed a couple of games I think last season so definitely he is not retiring.

Dirk had extended his contract to 1 year, probably he's just testing his capabilities to go against the youngins in the league today. As we all know, the era he had when he was in his prime was completely different than today's. Player has evolved, when dont see as many centers who can shoot 3's before than today.

Yes we are getting older too harizen. Grin

As of centers or forwards who have good shooting range like Dirk it will be Aldridge and Porzingis at my vote.

This two are almost copying the way Dirk shoots the ball. Step backs and the most known Dirk shot fade away with just a tip toe. It is still working but with players with just height advantages and long reach. If they can perfect it then maybe they could end up the same with Dirk getting a championship.

Another veteran retirement.

http://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/david-west-retires-nba-news-pacers-warriors-spurs-pelicans-hornets-xavier/h7rilycrr0tm1s33l1iow511q]David West retires after 15 NBA seasons

One of the good backup player of the Golden State Warriors. These guy have an overall 4 teams he played on his whole career and got 2 rings in his final 2 season with the Golden State Warriors (2016–2018). Unlike other players who earned their rings without effort*, we all know that West contributes much in Warriors so I will say that he really deserved those rings.

With the retirement of West, I think only 6 or 7 players remained now to that famous 2003-04 draft that is actively playing until now. If Im not mistaken.
West has become an all star player when he is on the Pacers. I remember the time when the Pacers team composed of West, PG, Hill, Hibbert etc. They are a good team and can compete against the Heat where James, Wade and Bosh are there.

I think West has fulfilled what he has to fulfill. Contribute to the team and have championship but I didnt expect that he will retire now since he can contribute his vetetan experience in Warriors.
He just want championship, actually he accept a lower salary just to play with the warriors.
This guy is really tough but I don't like players who join a super team just to be champion easily, that is just my opinion but in overall, west is a tough player.

If only Carter did not get that injury. He might have been a great player by now with rings on his fingers.
Remember the time when I was still a kid and most of my playmates are imitating and calling their moves as Carter's.

Time comes when a great player needs to rest and retire and this will come also to the current superstars that we are all admiring today, let's move on to another discussion.

It's only normal for players to retire. With what West has erformed in his last season, we see that he cannot keep up the pace of the new era of basketball. He cannot keep up with a fast paced game which only slows down the offense of his team. Eventhough he is still as effective as before, but his effectiveness fall short in the endgame. It's better to retire with a ring than retire due to injury.

Yeah, most probably, but if we are going to based from his last years performance, he remains healthy so we hope that he can continue and breaks Chamberlain record before finally retiring. Yes players evolved, he is one of the pioneers back in the days wherein a big guy can shoot 3's. A good read for all Dirk fans:

Manu Ginobili got his retirement and now we are talking about Dirk Nowitzki and Vince Carter? This feels sad man, not only because they are retiring but they are one of the known and popular players in the time and I am feeling so old now. The dunks of Vince Carter, the Dirk shot of Nowitzki, man, that will be a legacy. In fact the shot of Dirk Nowitzki are being carried not by a lot of superstars at NBA.

With his age and previous injuries, yes it's convincing that he's playing only for money now, or because of his love from this game, old players can influence rookies using their leadership and passed experiences, they can bring more motivations though they can't deliver much or can't help lifting the team physically but more on boosting their mentallity to love the game and show what they've got for this league.
As long as there are teams that will sign them they will still play because who would refuse money.
No doubts these guys are legend but you cannot be in the position all the time, people are getting older and the young once will replace them.

Derozan only has danny green he needs to surpass from last year, the rest is still the same. People think derozan will not contribute as much as kawhi but people are also forgetting two things, first of all kawhi didn't contributed at all last year and spurs went to playoffs anyway and two kawhi got injured and seems not that alright in the mind, so we don't know if kawhi is still that same kawhi.

Hence derozan can absolutely not be an upset, whatever he provides is definitely better than what danny green could do and I am sure it will be a lot more. No one expects a "championship bringer" type player but anything more than role player is great.

Honestly I don't undestand why other people thinks that DeRozan will be a disappointment to the Spurs fan? How come? DeRozan is more of a role player than being a superstar. In Raptors, he is not the only who do ISO plays and we saw how well their ball rotation is. Meaning he is not always the main man of their offense. Spurs system is always like that much especially they played with no main man last season so surely DeRozan will adopt easily the Pop's system in Spurs.

I see Raptors should have to make more adjustmenst with Kawhi than DeRozan with the Spurs.

Vince Carter is more of an instructor now than a player. I don't know why he still plays. If he want championship, he can easily request on it on a competitive team as he will not harm the cap space but he is not aggressive on that for many years. Maybe getting more $$$ before retirement. Smiley He earned $8M last year with the Kings and $2.4M contract this season with the Hawk. That was a decent one for a veteran and no need to played more minutes on the court.

Dirk Nowitzki I believed wants to retire now but he is closed in getting another record, to surpass Wilt Chamberlain in NBA All-Time Scoring. Currently he has 31,183 pts and Wilt has 31,419. It's now within his reached and this season is enough period to reached the goal.

I do not think derozan will keep playing like what derozan used to play on toronto but you guys are forgetting one thing. Yes in 2014 when spurs won the title they played the best team basketball there is but two years ago spurs was heavily reliant on kawhi making plays for himself and scoring, last year it was mostly on lamarcus aldridge and his 1 on 1 with his defender
on low block.

Mainly spurs is not playing the "beatiful game" we remember, they did turned to a more isolation related game, which derozan excells at. He might share the ball a lot more because its spurs, they pass more than others, however not like used to so derozan will be required to do ISO even if not as much. They do not have that many scorers on that team, this year they will only be derozan and lamarcus, anyone else scoring is just open shots, the ppg for all others will be low.

Actually I am kind of excited of their line up now.

New players and there might be new plays that we will see. But we can still see how Pops works on his plays. There might be some isolation for Aldridge but that is also the Duncan move which he already prepared a long time ago.
They are stretching all the plays they can get last year because of Kawhi's injury.
Let us face it too, Ginobili was not that fast anymore last year but he still did a great performance.

DeRozan
Aldridge
Mills
Gasol
Rudy Gay
and their #18 pick Walker
New acquired three pointer Belinelli.

Now they need a good 2nd team.

Man DeRozan will be a huuuuge disappointment for the Spurs fans. Hope they can take it.

With pop as his coach? I don't think DeRozan will play like he was in raptors. Of course he will behave in the hands of a well respected coach in the league.
He will have to play like a team not like a superstar in a team, but there will be major adjustment and they need to build a chemistry as well.
DeRozan was a superstar with the Raptors but it's embarrassing because they got swept by the Cavaliers, compared to Leonard, I think Leonard is better.

One hell of a defensive player and also one thing that will be remembered from him. That elbow perimeter shot which he does perfectly without even jumping an inch.
I think that was just a tip toe that he was doing.
Somehow he create those shots with not much effort amd still get double digits with points and rebounds.
He will be remembered indeed.

15 NBA Seasons, 2 rings with GSW, 2 time All Star, one of Hornets early NBA stars, yeah one hell of a ride for David West. He also contributed a lot during his stint in GSW so I'm sure that they lost one valuable player in their rotation.

I agree with the elbow shot, I think he can do it with either hands as well.

And I still remember that "Kiss" with Tristan last year. Lol. Smiley
