I don’t know who at ESPN is doing their NBA rankings and predictions but I wish I could bet against them. After the horrible take on the Bucks upcoming season, they’re now saying that Zion Williamson is the 57th best player in the NBA. I could maybe see calling him the 20th, but 57th? If he plays in even 50 games this year he’ll likely be an MVP candidate…
If he would stay healthy I could see him being top 20, but the fact that he can't play a full season without being injured would have him ranked 200th IMO. If he won't condition himself to play the whole season, he's worthless. He's only good for letting his team down.

There's a big "IF" on your statement, and yes I agree on that.
I still remember the time when I said that the Pelicans are the "Dark Horse" of the whole league last season. The team where no one would expect them to be at the top, and sure enough, they're at the top at some point, and even got the top spot in the West... until Zion got injured, and they've became an average team. Slowly went out in the standings, and ended up losing in the play-in tournament.

This just shows how impactful Zion is with the team. He could be at the top 10 TBH "IF" he's healthy enough to help the team. His health has been the big concern since he came into the league, and him being ranked at the 57th seems just fine for me. Of course that'll change depending on his performance this season. If he stays healthy all throughout the season, he will be a top 10 player, and a potential MVP candidate.

Well, IF he is healthy is is an easy top 20 player, or even better.
But with the history of him being out with injuries year after year I can understand what ESPN's pessimism is coming from, I would see it similar, just not as high as 57.

By the way, Real Madrid putting a good game up so far against the Mavericks. We might see another win of a European teams vs the NBA today.
Very disappointing though that Madrid's fans to get to see Kyrie or Luka.   Roll Eyes

It is becoming really weird indeed. I don't even think it is that hard to analyze that the Bucks are getting more than 48 wins next season. If they were able to win 58 last season then it is expected that they will perform better this season. Jrue is a great player with a good defense but overall, Dame is much better than him, especially on the offensive side.

If my memory serves me right, Zion when he played many games in a previous season became an early candidate for MVP. I think it was the time when they moved up to #1 or #2 in the West. So it is laughable to call him 50sh among the best.

The Lakers' roster is looking exciting, but do you think they have what it takes to secure a championship this year?

I would note not only Reaves' performance but also Hachimura and Wood's. Those two big guys looked good against the Nets, and I'm more than sure they can be very useful to the Lakers throughout the upcoming regular season. As for the Lakers' chances of winning the championship, I wouldn't call them favorites just yet because there is too much competition, and it's still too early.

That Chet and Victor showdown. Honestly, it's like that I've just watched two thin tall guys which is the actuality of it. Well, they're still young and there will be more muscle build up in the coming months for sure. I don't care about the result of their match as that was just a preseason game.
While Victor was able to play just after being draft, Chet took a year for him to start playing because he got injured last season even before the start of it.

That highlight of Victor flexing on Chet went viral on the internet last night. It even got a Twitter response from Chet who called Victor’s unstoppable move the head butt. His post had something like 50,000+ likes last time I saw it and I think he was right on. The league looks ready to give Victor the superstar treatment and let him get away with fouls.

I have a new LG Smart TV and one of the features is showing my favorite teams scores before and after the games start and I was shocked to see the "Chicago Bulls" pop up on my on my television.  I feel like the season just ended, I can't believe we are in pre-season already.

That said, it's going to be another ugly ass year for my Chicago Bulls.  Another year without Ball etc.  NO HOPE here, and that's depressing.

My takeaway after watching a recap of the Lakers vs Nets matchup was that Ben Simmons looked really good. He was even attacking the basket. A completely different player from last year. We’ll see how his season goes… Anthony Davis also looked great on both ends. LeBron is still LeBron and Austin Reeves is going to be getting a lot of shots this year…

Their bench players are also reliable and they are gonna make some good contributions to the team throughout the season if they stay to play that way like they did in the last minutes of the game to win the game. This is a good start for the Lakers since they don't have a good opening preseason game when they always lose and cannot find the right rhythms for their player to sync with one another in the beginning but this time they practice and build up chemistry works and also they have less stress since they get rid of Westbrook last season.

That lob pass by Lebron to Hayes though to beat the shot clock. So the Lakers really looks good at the start. Yes, kudos to Ben Simmons as well, it looks like the old Ben and have recovered from the big mental issues he had with the 76ers and now moving forward in his career.
Ben Simmons was sidelined for a while in the conversation, but it's a relief that he's made a comeback. Nevertheless, it's important to remember that it's still early to draw any firm conclusions since this is just the preseason, not the actual competition. Nonetheless, it's encouraging news. Simmons is now part of a team that doesn't have a dominant superstar, which means they can collaborate effectively as a unit. In this environment, he might have the opportunity to further develop his skills, and there's less pressure on him because the team isn't currently viewed as a playoff contender.

I also love what Kuminga said, that his mentor Rudy Gay is very instrumental on him as a player. So I'm also expecting that Kuminga will continue to improved as Warriors and might be one of the biggest surprises this season.

The Warriors have a pleasant surprise in store thanks to their excellent player development program. Jonathan Kuminga already possesses considerable talent, and if his height and athleticism are harnessed effectively, he could potentially become a superstar for this team in the future. It's important to consider this possibility, especially as the members of the team's 'big three' are not getting any younger.

No doubt, Austin Reeves was a massive surprise! If he hadn't been discovered, he might have remained the Lakers' hidden gem. What's fantastic about the Lakers right now is their arsenal of offensive weapons. Reeves has already proven himself in the playoffs and seems to thrive on the big stage. Plus, with his recent contract signing, I'm sure that will motivate him to take his game to new heights. Also, being part of the USA basketball team in the FIBA World Cup is another experience that could skyrocket his confidence. So, I can only expect him to deliver some outstanding performances this season.

The Lakers' roster is looking exciting, but do you think they have what it takes to secure a championship this year?

Welcome back to the NBA preseason! Time to dive back into some betting action. By the way, I'd like to get the attention of @stadus to unlock the NBA 2020-2021 betting thread so we can start sharing our picks, seeking advice from the experts, and more. Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you update the thread title? I get that you might want to show off how long it's been around (just kidding), but it would be great if we could align it with the current season. Thanks!

I was just waiting for the regular season to kick off, but since you brought it up, and if that's what the other bettors in the thread are keen on as well, then sure, I can open it up. Personally, though, I'm not too keen on betting heavily on preseason games just yet. They tend to be quite unpredictable, don't you think?

Regarding the thread title, thanks for noticing that, I'll update that as well.

Yeah, I second this. @stadus, open our thread.
Here, I will help you go directly to your thread because it's on the 14th page.

I am sure he will update that once he finds time.

Anyway, Wemby played 19 minutes and Chet played 16 minutes in their match today. 2 promising young tall men of the league. Chet scored 21 points and 9 rebounds while Wemby got 20 points and 5 rebounds. I could already taste that we were getting near the start of the season tip-off.
Lebron James also played his first pre-season game after he missed the game against the Warriors in their first match.
New York Knicks also looking healthy and then the addition of Donte DiVincenzo whom they caught from free agency. Here are some thoughts from Donte on why he chose the Knicks.
Quote
“Ultimately, I like to win basketball games,” DiVincenzo said on Monday’s media day. “Looking at the layout of where I was potentially going, I felt most comfortable adding the family aspect and adding what they’ve done last year. And how I can plug in and benefit from everybody around me. And help this team go further.”
Quote
“My focus is to win games whether I’m starting or coming off the bench, playing 20 minutes or 40 minutes,” said DiVincenzo, who agreed to a four-year, $50 million deal with the Knicks in the summer after averaging 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists with the Warriors a season ago. “I signed a four-year deal here, so I plan to be here long term.”
https://nypost.com/2023/10/02/donte-divincenzo-reveals-why-he-chose-knicks-in-free-agency/
Now they have a champion on their roster, experience-wise this will be good for the team.

Indeed this event would not happen if the organization know that its high risk place to play with their brought stars but all show some love in the game of basketball that's why they end up this successful event that they will never forget. For sure the prisoners participate on this event really enjoy this big moment of their life and got encourage that there's a life better than what currently they are on since they are been noticed by big names of this industry.

Golden State Warriors show all love at this event so for sure they will get a lot of recognition with this since I think no other team done this simple act of kindness to the person who think they are left behind on the society. Hope that game could inspire prisoner to change their life and be a better baller.

Yeah, before they went in that location they are assured that security will be tightened to make sure that there's no problem that will take place.
Good deed has been made as they gave those people a reason to continue life and this temporary entertainment can fuel the desire to have
a better life after.

Things have been done with generosity, even its part of advertisement, but choosing the venue like this is something that.

It's an opportunity to feel that you are not less fortunate and with this experience, those prisoners will be inspired to change up, maybe some not generalizing, though.

The Warriors went and played a team in prison… Cool idea. Hats off to them for doing it. The best part… They lost.

https://x.com/thedunkcentral/status/1711053895332466872

I had never seen this one coming and I think they are the first to do this, giving hope to those people who once made life-changing mistakes on their lives is great, and giving them some hope that they can still be helpful and recognized as people who contribute positivity to their nation if they wanted to change their lives for good. Obviously, they were just casually playing against those inmates and didn't take their time to chase the score, which made them even greater because that was part of the plan to give inmates some hope and dreams.

That's the human spirit there—they aren't afraid to play even in prison. Maybe that prison's being run well, and the people there are behaving themselves. After all, they're still humans, right? But you never really know what could happen, so this move is pretty risky yet admirable.

Those guys in jail will pay a respect to the team who show some good deeds to them since its very rare occasion that a team on NBA would come to them and play for sure they will be overwhelmed with that events since they would provably think about that they still notice by these guys. Saw this clip online Golden State Warriors play basketball in prison

I also didn't imagine a high profile team would agree to play in high risk place but they are there happily playing with them and all of them is so happy with the result of the game. For prisoners who participated the game for sure they won't forget this experience since this event is so rare to happen and GSW is showing some humanity to these people and spread love thru the game of basketball.

This wouldn't have been possible if security wasn't guaranteed. These people are NBA players, so they're quite well-known. I must say, it's a commendable initiative by the Golden State Warriors. They're spreading some positivity in a place where people are often despised due to their crimes.

At the end of the day, we're all human, and everyone deserves a second chance and the opportunity to enjoy life, even while serving time. This experience is bound to be unforgettable for the people in jail.

To be fair we haven't seen anything yet, we just saw a few minutes from the starters. Preseason is mostly where other players play starter minutes and they try to show how good they are, and that is definitely a difficult task, because who you are facing is the other bench as well so even if you do good, that's not going to be easy. On top of that, not everyone can get a lot of minutes and not everyone can shoot the ball like crazy, some people just shoot it a few times that's it, how can you show yourself with only 4 or less shots, you have to be a defensive player or a rebounder to be able to show yourself, if you are a scorer then tough luck. We will not understand anything from these games for sure.
