Congrats to those who back the Gilas to win this game.

What was the spread if I may ask?

Iran was the slight favorite before the game with a 2-point spread.

Below was the ML odds:

Iran @1.76
Gilas @2.13

edit:
I have not bet for Gilas as i have second thoughts on them because they just played yesterday and Iran was well rested.

I just bet on the China vs Korea game which fortunately my bet win also, China -6.5 @1.89, not bad lol.

Is the game between Iran and the Philippines already over?

I can't find a highlights video on YouTube yet, but I saw this article saying that Gilas defeated Iran by 1 point.

Gilas Pilipinas def. Iran, 84-83 (VIDEO) 2023 Asian Games | October 3 | Quarterfinal

(Final score)
PHILIPPINES 84-83 IRAN

Quarters: 28-22, 48-36, 71-54, 84-83

Yeah, the game is over and Gilas marches on to the semis but not without a scare hehe.

Who would have thought that Iran would take a one point lead with Gilas leading by as much as 20 points in the third quarter.

Luckily for the Gilas, Fajardo and Brownlee made their respective field goals in the dying seconds of the game.
I was thinking Gilas would have at least one day of rest before facing Iran, so I missed the game. I just watched some highlights now and saw how Gilas dominated Iran with a great performance by Brownlee; he was just unstoppable. However, as we've seen in the past, the same problem occurred again; we had a collapse in the last quarter. Luckily, we were able to avoid the loss.

A win is still a win, though. Congratulations to Gilas. So, are they going to face China next?

Congrats to those who back the Gilas to win this game.

And they are saying that this could also be a strategy that the team has made because if they've won against Jordan, they'll certainly face these strong teams. But I am one of those people who won't be expecting to see Gilas getting gold. I'm not trying to be negative that's what really is what's being shown. China is getting the lead on the gold race and for sure they'd be careful on this one and wouldn't want to miss to get a gold medal and I agree after what they've been through with the FIBA, they'll never miss this one but I hope that I am wrong.

Either it's true or not the journey for taking the gold medal still possible, we do have game/s to win and if they will make it up to the finals, then we will see if what will be the fate of this new sets of gilas squad, I'm no longer being bothered by any critics as it's part of the system, I mean if you win there's still something to say about it and if you lose expect more to hear about it, so moving forward as long as the ASIAN tournament is not yet ended then who knows if luck permits maybe we will make it.
It's possible but everyone is just getting a lower chance thought because of how good the other opponents are. We can that the lost against Jordan was a blessing in disguise because Jordan and China are tough opponents and Gilas was able to move the other bracket without them.
But this shouldn't make us confident and comfortable that the path is going to be easy. Let's just take that every team on this Asiad are good team and that's why they're there. And we don't see that with the Gilas and the coach for now because all they wanna do is focus on reaching the highest placing that they can and hopefully that before this ends, they'll be able to get the gold medal despite including me that I am having lesser hope with that.

Yes indeed, the focus right now is to keep that hope alive and whatever bracket we are now, Gilas squad needs to work more, we have seen how they play the ball well against the very young squad of Qatar, they really dominated as they play great from both end, I mean, both offense and defense the squad showcase their dominance and take this game against Qatar.,

Looking to see more than once they've faced Iran and hopefully they can continue what they already established, that kind of trust and good ball rotations and that confidence to take every shot knowing that you are already got a clear look at the basket.

But your last statement has a big factor. China as the host country will do everything we can't do anything about it, though after watching how Jordan plays against us, the chance for gold is not just for China but also for this squad.
Yeah, they are a contender so as the Gilas but we will see if they're going to make it or not.

The ball is round as what we Pinoys' always believe, if by fate we will manage to get to the magic 4, semis is really the tough part before the finals, we will see what Gilas will bring to our pride.

By looking at how the game currently flow it shows that they can cover that spread Philippines is now leading at 39 big points and it seems that Qatar doesn't have enough fire power since they miss a lot of their shots. This is easiest game of Philippines and now we can clearly see them win against Qatar. Those who bet with side of Philippines can assure their win now so I guess its safe to say congratulations now since I don't believe that Qatar could able to catch up with the big lead got by Philippines. Philippines next opponent will is a tough one so let see if they could able to bring this overwhelming win and defeat their next opponent to compete for silver or gold medal.

Lost my bet here, i underestimated the Gilas against Qatar too much but it is okay, no regrets and the good thing is that they will advance now into the quarterfinals against the Team B of Iran which i think a very competitive team and can give Gilas a good fight.

The bad news perhaps on this groupings is that Gilas will face China if ever they will succeed in defeating Iran in the quarterfinals. China is the favorite to win the Gold here so i think we will only fighting for the bronze.

Huge win by the Philippines! After an embarrassing defeat against Jordan, they bounced back with a very dominant win. I guess the next game will be so exciting if they face Iran. Iran has been one of the toughest opponents for Gilas in the past, especially when Haddadi was still playing. However, I think they are still a good team, so hopefully, this will be a close game, not a game where Gilas will win or lose by a huge margin.

As for the game against China, that's a different story. I believe we would really struggle big time. But let's take it one step at a time, and with that said, let's start by winning against Iran.

I'm surprised by the betting odds for the Philippines vs. Qatar match.

They will play today at 4:00 PM Philippine time.

For the moneyline and spread:
Philippines: 1.04 (-17.50)
Qatar: 10.50 (+17.50)

I initially thought this would be a close match, but judging by the betting odds and spread, it seems that the Philippines has a significant advantage. It appears to be an easy win for them. However, I'm still having doubts due to what happened in the last game.

So, what are your thoughts, everyone?

I'm surprised with that wide margin too but maybe bookies are considering the higher ranking of Gilas that Qatar and they are number 2 in Group C while Qatar is number 3 in Group D (just my speculation).

Betting for the Philippines with that high spread is so risky, just like what i have said in my previous post that this version of Gilas lacks the bench firepower, i mean their second five is not that deadly like the first five.

I hope Gilas will win today but with regards to my bet, i will back Qatar with that +17.5 handicap as most likely Gilas can't cover that spread.

Good luck to us guys, bet wisely.

I agree with you; it's too risky because Gilas is not a very consistent team. They were the heavy favorite against Thailand. I'm not sure what the spread was, but I'm certain it was at least -20. In that game, it was evident that Thailand almost completed a good comeback before they ran out of gas in the remaining minutes. So, with this high spread, we can say that the Philippines will likely win, but the question here is, "can they cover the spread?"

Yeah, bet wisely.

> maybe we can say that Gilas will not get a gold this year on asian games.

That's most likely what will happen. If we lose to Jordan and China beats Jordan, we can't expect to beat China. In addition, China was embarrassed when they lost by a huge margin during the FIBA World Cup. I'm certain that they will come back strong when they face Gilas, whose lineup isn't as strong as during the FIBA World Cup.

It will be a home court advantage and Gilas will be in trouble if ever they will face China again.
We have to focus first on beating Qatar and I believe we still have the chance to finish in the podium.
Gilas have to be more active and be more wise on their passing and their shooting as well. I’m disappointed to lose against Jordan again especially it was a big lead from Jordan, well they have to move on and continue playing their best for their remaining games, we still have the chance.

However, we are not done yet. As you mentioned, our team will still qualify for the quarter-finals, so let's continue the support. But when it comes to betting on the team, we have to think twice.

Yeah, we are not done yet. We will be in the quarter-finals, and we got lucky because we are not going to face China. As for Jordan, they are in the same bracket, so they need to beat the host team to advance to the semi-finals. I am not sure if it's a strategy of Tim Cone to avoid China, but I've seen a major problem in that game, and our team needs to improve in the next game, especially in outside shooting.

Next game will be against Qatar. (October 2)  Gilas vs. Qatar [LIVE] 4:00pm (Qualification to QF)

Full schedule here https://www.teampilipinas.info/2023/08/gilas-pilipinas-live-updates-schedule.html

I think not good call for not facing China since this could give more challenge to Gilas if they face another strong opponent. But unfortunate times happen they got heavily beaten up by Jordan and I think that leaves a huge statement to them that they can't go forward if they cannot settle up their rosters and have good chemistry. They are good on early quarter of that game but they didn't sustain it that's why its really good for a team practice for long time compare if they just do a week or months preparation where we can see that they really having a bad breaks towards their plays. Lets see on next round if they can dominate the teams on their bracket since if they struggle maybe we can say that Gilas will not get a gold this year on asian games.

Odd from stake is also out.
Jordan ~ 1.41
Philippines ~ 2.70
Let's show the boys some love and we know that this could be the most difficult match that they're going to be with. May the force be with the Gilas Pilipinas.

Though i want the Philippines to advance to the 1/4 directly by beating Jordan but it seems to be hard task for them considering in the change of roster and the lack of quality substitution, i mean Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter are not the player we used to see five years ago, father time has taken a toll on them so i'm not gonna risk my money by backing Gilas this time instead i'll be going for Jordan.

Gilas will still qualify for the quarters if ever they will be defeated by Jordan.

Congrats @bisdak40, it seems like you are the only one who predicted it right among the bettors here. The game was pretty much a statement that our current Gilas team is not strong enough to beat the strong teams. Let's admit this early; we don't have a chance to win gold in this tournament. I guess if Clarkson was the naturalized player, there's a chance, but as we can see, our team really struggled.

However, we are not done yet. As you mentioned, our team will still qualify for the quarter-finals, so let's continue the support. But when it comes to betting on the team, we have to think twice.

I have a different reason, though. If the Philippines won't be able to beat Jordan, then I don't think they'll be able to beat the team in the next round. So I guess if we really trust Gilas to be able to get a gold, backing them now against a tough team is the right thing to do. I don't question your bet, though, as we gamblers have our own analysis. It's nothing personal; we are just playing with numbers here, and at the end of the day, either one of us could be right. Good luck!
I see a good chemistry with our Gilas now and the coaching staff is really doing their best to adjust during the game.
Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and of course to fully support our team we almost have our win against Jordan before, and I'm sure we can do better this time.
I'm betting with the Philippines here despite of the odds, hoping that they can get a win today and advance to the next round.

Yup! Though not the same level or I mean same individual talents and skills unlike with what we have during the world cup but the chemistries and the rotations is much better compared with what they've got from the last FIBA tournament, though we really can't say that they can match it up since Jordan brings the same roster and the players already have that bond playing together.

A matter of what the system and the executions for the Gilas, if coach Tim manage to scout Jordan and create a good defensive strategy to compete, the chance to win is always possible.

Coach Tim Cone is probably the best coach in the PBA now; he chooses his roster well, so there's nothing we can do but trust him. I'm sure our fellowmen are very excited to see this game, and it's good to know that Gilas, per bookies, is the underdog. I will put my bet, of course, but I will not make it complicated. I will just focus on the ML, so it's either win or lose. There's no significant odds movement for now; I guess these will be the final odds going into the actual game.

By the way, if we look at the score distribution on their last game, you'll be impress and you can see how effective they are in moving the ball.

Numbers states how coach Tim system works for both players and the coaching staff, they are all working as one and look what we are witnessing, a good executions even they just have each other for a short time but still showing the type of game play coming from coach Tim, respect and trust that's how coach Tim handles his squad, they will again be tested and this time I'm pretty sure that there are some who will wait for possible criticism people who just waiting for mistakes and failures, not a hater here but just doing some realtalk.. hahaha
