Damn, I really hope that Aj Edu and Rhenz Abando will make it to the final lineup. They are the additional game changer for PH in that tournament.

My fearless forecast is that they will be part in the final 12 roster of Gilas as both AJ Edu and Rhenz Abando plays excellent defense on which coach Chot Reyes wants this version of Gilas to be defense oriented.

I do see that AJ Edu has the chance to make it to the final roster as he's seen doing well at both offense and defense. He was also given a good playing time in the recent tournament as the Gilas really need a big man to help JuneMar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar. My worry is about Rhenz Abando as Gilas currently does have several guards especially once Scottie Thompson returns from the injury.

I hope they will consider Abando's athleticism and not just looked at his height. Against Iran and Senegal in their last tournament, Abando shows his good defense even against those much taller than him. Since Gilas is lack height, they should consider a guard that is athletic and Abando does have that.

CJ Perez + Rhenz Abando = I'm expecting a fast ball phase in every offense.

I'm confident that they will be included, but I just have concern about how Coach Chot is treating Rhenz Abando. It seems like he hasn't given him enough minutes to help the team. Personally, I believe he would fit well and would be able to help if he were part of the starting lineup. The good thing with Rhenz Abando is his effort; if he cannot score, he will contribute on the other end with defense and rebounding the ball. He is an all-around player that could give and maintain energy for the team. We need that, as we aren't on the top list of rankings. So from the very start, our energy should be high.

Good thing that while everyone in the backup squad of Gilas is only sharing limited minutes, Rhenz Abando is making sure that he will always show a good performance on those limited minutes to show his capability. His athletic ability can be a big help on the team and despite the fact that he is not that tall, he is good at defense and that's the reason why he became popular in the South Korean League. Aside also from his great leaping ability, he also has a good stroke in the 3-point area making him an all-around player with that small height.

I will be pissed off if Rhenz Abando won't make it to the final pool. They should consider removing the Ravena brothers instead.

Not against them just to be clear but they are not contributing much especially Thirdy Ravena.

JC is now in the Philippines so it's sure that he will be able to play with the Gilas locals.

Yes, he really needs to join the Gilas practice nowadays.

If you guys recently watch the performance of Gilas in the China Pocket tournament, you will notice the big changes in them - sharing the ball. No such thing as isolation in most of their plays and it was designed for everyone. Gilas also shows in that tournament that "defense is the best offense".

Yup, as per interview of Carlo Pamintuan on coach Chot Reyes, he said that they really put emphasis on defense as good offense will flow once you have good defense. One thing i have noticed was that their percentage on the rainbow area was quite high during that four game friendly matches, even AJ Edu was shooting well on that area.

Damn, I really hope that Aj Edu and Rhenz Abando will make it to the final lineup. They are the additional game changer for PH in that tournament.

As a guest coach, maybe we can have him but likewise if staying back in our county just to help training the National team?
I think that's a hard task for coach Jimmy, considering that the amount of money that he's already enjoying now, not sure if MVP will offer him such an amount. But the how that he will agree to handle the National team in the future even as a guest coach/consultant will be enough to improve the potential of the team, as per my opinion.

We need to accept the reality that Jimmy would not be spending time with the Gilas Pilipinas to help them, not that he doesn't like it, but because he has bigger priorities being part of the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings. Of course, they don't want to ruin what they've started. Last season, the Kings had a good run, so they are expected to improve next season. That's a challenging task for the coaching staff because if they fail to meet the management's expectations, they will be at risk of being removed, so they need to dedicate a full concentration for the job.

Yeah right a great campaign last season, just fell short against the defending champion but we all witness how competitive they are and they are really wanting that win, just so happen that coach Kerr have enough man to counter those stars of Sacramento, and same with what you said, they needed to focus more and return much stronger this upcoming season, else, the chance of revamp may take place with the coaching staff, coach Jimmy needs this break and the focus will be on how he will become productive, who after some years he will take the spot for handling the national team, we know how much he love the country and for sure it will be a pleasure if ever in some years to come he will coach the national team..

Great news kabayan!

Clarkson arrives in Manila for Gilas stint

Quote
MANILA, Philippines – NBA star Jordan Clarkson arrived in the Philippines Tuesday to join Gilas Pilipinas in their upcoming campaign in the FIBA World Cup.

News5’s Martie Bautista managed to sneak in a question to the Utah Jazz guard as he was making his way out of the Ninoy Aquino international Airport.

JC is now in the Philippines so it's sure that he will be able to play with the Gilas locals. Hopefully no injuries will happen during practice as he is the best chance for the team to be competitive and hopefully we are going to get an upset win.

For the schedule, you can see it https://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2023/competition-schedule.pdf
Nice, we've been waiting for him. I thought that I am going to see another news about politics against him but no. Hoping that everything is going to be good and fine while he just arrived. Despite that it's just a short period for him to play along with the team, maybe that would suffice and he can adjust easily with his teammates since some of those he has played with already. I'm thinking of planning to buy a ticket maybe on a Tuesday game against the Italy since that's the schedule that I'll be open with but I'm still undecided.

We need to accept the reality that Jimmy would not be spending time with the Gilas Pilipinas to help them, not that he doesn't like it, but because he has bigger priorities being part of the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings.
Not that bad to think that he might have little time in going with the Gilas and giving some of his time to help the younger generation and as well as the national team. He might have already migrated to the US and probably now a US citizen but for sure that he's still got a heart of a pinoy that just like JC, he wants to help the basketball in our country to upgrade and be on another level and whatever he has learned with the Kings, he might like to share it. Maybe not for now but who knows soon if he's going to be there and try to help in the best interest that he can.

Of course, they don't want to ruin what they've started. Last season, the Kings had a good run, so they are expected to improve next season. No doubt that the Kings did well and that's a great part of their history as they continue for the upcoming season. It's expected that they'll finish more than what they did last time. And it's understandable that Jimmy has a big task to make that happen.

What a great achievement for Mighty-mouse, having that opportunity to coach those stars that's really something to admire from him, after his successful basketball career, now he's making new achievement for being a part of the coaching staff and like what you said who knows maybe we can see two Pinoy coaches that competing in NBA, and the timing might be cool from east and west hahaha..

Too far from that, but hopefully we will see more from coach Jimmy, as he really pursuing his career in that industry, and hopefully he will take charge in coaching the National team.

He is serious with his goal; that's why he chose to be part of the coaching staff in the B League if I'm not mistaken. Now that his rank is elevated to be part of the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings, he'll surely get a lot of new ideas and strategies that he can share to improve our brand of basketball.

The Philippines needs someone like him to handle the Gilas Pilipinas (If Available) as he is the most qualified coach, which I'm sure people will not criticize. Also, being a player, which he was a great PG, he can easily understand what the team really needs. His achievement is just in the early stages, but the promotion was really fast, so I'm optimistic that he'll have more achievements in the long run, and we are all hopeful for him to become a head coach one day.

Grats Jimmy!
Not sure if he's still planning to go back to the Philippines but I hope we can still get a chance to have him even as a guest coach since he already migrated to the US if I'm not mistaken. He's living a good life already with a lot of potential having that coaching experience with a great team in NBA, we should be more proud of him as he continue to make name for himself. He's getting closer now to becoming a head coach and I'm sure that's the goal for him.

That's probably correct, as coaching the Gilas means he has to stay with the Philippines, and that will not happen since he is committed to his team, where he is part of the coaching staff. Also, the amount of money he is making in the US might reach to million dollars, but here, 5 million pesos could even be high enough as a paycheck for a coach. So, it's understandable that we'd like to see Jimmy, but that seems impossible to happen already.

As a guest coach, maybe we can have him but likewise if staying back in our county just to help training the National team?

What can I say? Of course, this is a learning experience for the Gilas Pilipinas. Kai and JC, I think, will only play in the Philippines during the actual game, right? Anyway, I think the current Gilas lineup is still competitive, but we still want to see them win, as the team has been criticized a lot every time they lose.

I think Clarkson will only play in the Philippines during the event, but I hope Kai will be able to play with Gilas before that. It is important that he develops chemistry with the team so he can be of great help to Gilas. He can be utilized better by the coach if he knows the system well.

By the way there's a good news for us.

Jimmy Alapag joins Sacramento Kings’ coaching staff in NBA

Maybe this is the answer that we are looking for. He can replace Coach Chot, as he sure can help the team improve, being part of the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings. And who knows, maybe someday we will see two Filipino coaches in the NBA if he gets promoted again to become a Heat coach.

That is great news. Now that he is in NBA, he will surely improve his coaching skills. Give him a few years in NBA and he will be able to give Gilas the good lessons that he learned in NBA. This will improve the players here in the Philippines if he can give the quality coaching that NBA receives.

I am not expecting him to be a head coach, but it is not bad to dream. If he works hard and the team sees his dedication, he might get there someday. It will surely take a lot of years, but it is not impossible.

Not sure if he's still planning to go back to the Philippines but I hope we can still get a chance to have him even as a guest coach since he already migrated to the US if I'm not mistaken. He's getting closer now to becoming a head coach and I'm sure that's the goal for him.

If he becomes a successful coach there, he might not return to the Philippines to become a coach. But I think he will be open to coaching the National Team because it will not be taking all his time away from his job. He has spent a lot of time here in the Philippines so I am sure he will be willing to share his knowledge with his friends here.

Truly good news. It's a dream come true for Jimmy. And this only means that he's progressing when the Sacramento Kings have hired him to be on the back end. We've seen how the Kings made well last season and for sure this season, they're going to do better him being in the coaching and player development staff.

I just hope that the SBP will see this. I am sure that Jimmy would be happy and grateful to be part of the Gilas if he's being called to help them. But another thing is that, if he'll be allowed by his team since he's now going to play an important role for the players of the Kings.

Meanwhile, Gilas suffer a loss against Senegal.

Gilas fails to sustain charge against Senegal

Quote
GILAS Pilipinas failed to sustain an early fourth quarter charge and fell against Senegal, 72-64, in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in Guandong, China Friday night.

I've seen the whole game and that was very close up until the fourth quarter when the Senegalese show their height advantage. If only Kai Sotto and Jordan Clarkson were playing in that game, high chance that Gilas will won as Sotto would add ceiling to the Philippine squad while Clarkson will provide his scoring prowess that went missing for the Gilas in the final minutes of that game.

His explosiveness excited basketball fans but I hope that once he turned pro he would taper it down as that kind of playing style is prone to injury that could shorten his basketball career.

I doubt he would change his style; that style made him play well, so he will stick with it. He just has to be careful all the time. Maybe he will be like Abando in case he won't be playing in the PBA. We've seen how popular Abando is already because he is also a high flyer, and Poypoy has an advantage against Abando as he looks stronger, and both are high flyers.

Not sure about comparison with Abando, Poypoy is hype by social media while Abando prove things in numbers, maybe if Poypoy will make that same hype if ever he enters PBA and continue that same hype or manage to produce that same numbers, which still in question if he can fly that high when he's already playing with PBA players,.

Just an opinion Kabayan! no offense with your observation I'm just a good fan of Abando even when he's still playing with UST even there's a rumor about "hulugan" thing during the Ateneo finals up to Letran when he transfers and wins a title.. hahaha

I'm just riding the hype, hehe. No worries, maybe my expectation is too high because I'm just amazed by what he had shown in their previous games. It's too early to say, but I'm optimistic that once he gets into the PBA, he will become an all-star player, maybe an MVP candidate if he continues to play at the same level as he is showing now.
