For the coaching job, i think coach Chot Reyes is now out of Gilas as Tim Cone was named as the head coach for the Asian Games stint, that's according to Spin.ph but we don't know yet if coach Tim officially accepted the offer since no statement yet coming form him as of this writing.

At least we will see changes on the set plays when coach Tim will take over and hope no more bashing on the coaching staff this time around hehe.

Yes!
I also saw that news that Chot is out of the Gilas and he really did meant what he said to judge him during the world cup. At least he's now out of it and let the other coach handle everything for the Asian games. I remember that Tim Cone said that if Chot is out, he's also out.
But not this time, and let's see if he's going to be a good fit to the Gilas on this run. Well, Tab, knowing that he's in the rumor of going out of the country and has been hired by the Indonesian team is just sad. (https://newsko.com.ph/2023/09/06/tab-baldwin-inintrigang-pipiratahin-ng-indonesia/)

Regarding the coaching job, I guess we can't do anything about it. If Coach Chot continues to be the one coaching, then let's just hope he does a better job.

Just need to accept that fact, we can't do nothing aside from supporting the national team, if Chot decided to continue his role in this tournament we don't have any capabilities to stop that happening, it's been quite a while but Chot still ignoring what fans wants him to do, being booed inside your home crowd, something that he should be considering but seems that he will choose to go and still handling the coaching mentor.

Yes, for me coach Tim will be enough in case super coach Chot will be true to his words that he will let go the post, I mean coach Tab is coach Tab and his contributions to the development of young generations really bring great outcome to the players, though his greatness is just wasted by the fact that super coach Chot can easily manipulate as he's the golden son of the SBP, hahaha just kidding but hopefully just still hoping for the best for our nationals and for the future development of this program.

For coach Tab, wherever he is, I believe that he respects the management and he will continue to be an inspiration to those who manage to work and play with him.

Coach Chot Reyes and assistant coach Tim Cone will still be the official coach and assistant coach this coming Asian Games as their names were submitted by the POC before July 25, the deadline for the roster's submission, and whomever they put on the roster will be the official players and coaches so coach Chot Reyes is not yet officially retired from Gilas coaching job.

What's up with his statement that he stepped aside after the game against China? Does it mean he will still be part of the coaching staff but not as the head coach? If that's the scenario, I don't find it helpful, as the old system might still be in use, and it's possible he could still influence the head coach's decisions in practice. I don't understand it; please enlighten me if you know.
Their win against China is speaking that Gillas has a chance to win every game if theres an teamwork and good coaching staff then for sure we can compete to other country. And about coach can't Reyes the good decision he made is that he is not focusing on Jordan Clarkson to carry the team and like in that game, Other player has a chance to shows who they are in the court like abundo he is very good player and he shows to us in their game against China.
I don't see much difference in that game. Clarkson was still the focal point of the attack, and the game resulted in a dominant win for the Philippines because of Clarkson's five consecutive three-point shots. If that didn't happen, the outcome could have been different, as China was in good momentum, and sometimes we also struggle in the fourth quarter.
We can call those lucky shots, but that was Clarkson's game. It's just unfortunate that China didn't play well on defense; they didn't double-team Clarkson, which allowed him to take comfortable shots. Based on the performances of Gilas' past opponents, the strategy is simple: just double-team Clarkson, and the offense will struggle.

It's very evident that in that game, Clarkson single-handedly beat China, and it all happened in just one quarter—the third quarter, to be specific. China already had a huge deficit entering the fourth, making it hard for them to come back.

Regarding the coaching job, I guess we can't do anything about it. If Coach Chot continues to be the one coaching, then let's just hope he does a better job.

That may be from the burst of emotion as he was booed by the crowd during the introduction but legally he still has duties with the Gilas this coming Asian Games and you are right, the same kind of play but some new faces as Clarkson, Ramos, and Sotto will not suit up for the Gilas for the Asian Games. This is one problem that SBP must solve, no permanent players and they only practice for a limited period of time.

Posted below the video that i saw earlier. SBP will have to appeal if they want to change the coaching staff.

If this rumor is true, then I think it would break the hearts of the fans who are longing to see Coach Tab coach the Gilas Pilipinas. I understand why people want him because he has already proven himself. When he was coaching the team, there were lots of praises for the team, even though Gilas did not advance to the biggest stage.

I doubt it's a big blow on the Nationals. Coach Tab might be eyeing for long by everyone to handle again the Nationals but it's not only him as the best candidate. Who is the other coach that everyone wants? It's right directly on the Gilas Coaching Staff, none other than Brgy. Ginebra Head Coach, Tim Cone.

Coach Tim was already present at most Gilas preparation events in their FIBA World Cup journey since the qualification and window games. He was also given a chance to become an assistant head coach last year at the invitation of Miami Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra. He can utilize more of what should be the best play when Scottie Thompson and Japeth Aguilar are on the floor. And when it's time now for activating Justin Brownlee once JC is not available anymore, Coach Tim knows more what to do on the rotation.

I'm looking forward to him becoming the Gilas head coach after Coach Chot.

It appears that there's a chance we won't get to see Coach Tab taking on the role of coaching Gilas, as there's unofficial news suggesting that he has been hired as the new coach of the Indonesia National Team.

Quote
(UNOFFICIAL) According to Snow, his kuliglig told him that Tab will leave the country soon to coach the Indonesian Team. Such a loss for the Philippines to waste this gem and on the otherhand it is a BIG development for the Indonesian Basketball to have this type of Coach. While the Philippines might just rot on the old system, and old gameplay that will make PH basketball to its lowest level of play.

This is breaking news. I believe Coach Tab was one of the coaches considered to coach the Gilas Pilipinas. If this is true, maybe he wasn't really considered, which is why he chose to coach another country's national team. I believe he was let go as the Gilas coach before, so the SBP probably isn't pleased with him and might not rehire him despite the fans' eagerness to see him coach our struggling national team.

As they say, we have the talent but lack a good coach. So, when will we see one?

As JC said, that was not his last time playing with Gilas; he loves to play with Gilas. So, the longer he plays, the more he will develop great chemistry, and maybe next time, he will be able to join the early preparations.

Hope by the next FIBA World Cup, their will be enough players who can help him win games because this version of Gilas, though they are better now than the previous but still the offensive plays where so predictable, almost of all the plays, Clarkson touches the ball and when the opponents double JC, he has some trouble passing to his teammates.

Meanwhile, SBP has already released the roster for the upcoming Asian games, see below.

Quote
Justin Brownlee
Ange Kouame
Kiefer Ravena
Scottie Thompson
RR Pogoy
June Mar Fajardo
CJ Perez
Japeth Aguilar
Jamie Malonzo
Chris Newsome
Calvin Oftana
Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser

This is the big problem of Gilas and coach chot still doesn't understand why they get upset. They should adjust according how the game flow and not tell that its a learning experience to them since its so bullshit if it always happen. Luckily they win against China since it revives the spirit of Filipino fans if they play just like that on earliest games of this competition maybe result is different.

Also to bad that current players cannot play for next qualifiers due to their mother teams commitment so hopefully the new coach can work well with this current new rosters introduced to play on upcoming asian games.

Yup, even they win this one with a huge margin there's nothing that can be done for the host team to be qualified for the next olympics, we missed our chance losing from the last 4 games, a good learning experienced for the rest of the team and for sure if being handle by the same managements it will be the same exact reason, " A good learning experienced"

Oh well, just wanna congrats all those bettors who managed to place their support betting for the home team and earned decently after the game.
We are against the top teams, and we cannot blame the whole team for this as they performed their best and yet fell short. I agree about the statement of Coach Chot that other top teams didn’t even qualify for the next round and yet and we expecting to see Philippines in the next round? Maybe we are just expecting too much but its finally good to see our first win, we wish the team Gilas for a better years to come, we still have time to play next time.

The Samahang Basketbol of Pilipinas that manages the Gilas, spends big money for that event and talking about the salary, Jordan Clarkson alone has around Php 56,000,000 salary. Just try to do the math for all Gilas salary combined. They also spend much on long preparation for this event and there are lots of adjustments made the whole year just to be fully prepared.

If it's alright to just lose as other top teams didn't qualify for the next round, why still focus on basketball preparation? It's just reasonable for Pinoy fans to expect the Philippines to enter the next round because the country prioritize this sport compared to other sports that we are much good and better in the international event.

JC deserves that huge amount as he is an NBA player. Yes, they spent a lot of money on this event, but unfortunately, we didn't get what we wanted. Coach Chot stepping aside was probably the best thing that happened because with his departure, we can expect a new system to be put in place, making our players more capable in both offense and defense.

As JC said, that was not his last time playing with Gilas; he loves to play with Gilas. So, the longer he plays, the more he will develop great chemistry, and maybe next time, he will be able to join the early preparations.

I think with a better coach, the outcome could have been different; maybe a 2-2 record would have been quite reasonable.

I agree about the statement of Coach Chot that other top teams didn’t even qualify for the next round and yet and we expecting to see Philippines in the next round?

Coach Chot really said that? A competitive coach shouldn't say that. What a bullsh*t statement.

I know the capability of Gilas compared to other countries. It's better to say and admit that we lack talented players to cope with the global competition. What the f*ck should we care for other top teams not qualifying for the next round? Instead of recognizing our own problem, he still looks at those top teams not entering the next round. What a funny statement personally for me and you really agree with that?

Saying that kind of crap statement is like saying, it's fine to lose because there are top teams that also lose in the first round. Smiley

Hahaha! That's my comment Kabayan! as I also watch that video interview wanting to quote some of his statement " dito lang sa pilipinas bawal matalo" something like that in my understanding, I do hope that he's sincere in thinking of leaving the position, it's better to let someone to handle the team, might be enough for that time frame that was given to him.

Yup, not a small amount for this squad and just to learn something from losing to a strong team, I think that can be used if the gilas who are playing are the same gilas with coach tab, players from collegiate that don't have that value in terms of money involvement, but the fact that SBP allocated such huge amount of money in forming this team,

Though it happened and we don't have control about how the rotation and how super coach chot see what's better for his team during the game.

Smiley
