San Miguel did change it's name to Petron Blaze Boosters in 2010 if i'm not mistaken. That move is very controversial since there were rumors that time that
I wasn't aware of this issue. I was younger by that time so I'm not really digging with issues for the newer teams and things like this. Was this also the time when there's the Welcoat Dragons?

I've done some research with Welcoat Dragons and it is the current ROS Elastopainters so i think this is not the same time with Welcoat Dragons that they change the name San Miguel Beermen to Petron Blaze Boosters. I just remember the time when Junemar Fajardo was drafted in the PBA and it was Petron Blaze Boosters back then and the same time Chris Tiu was drafted by ROS Elasto Painters, that was way back in 2012.

Wow, that would be a great news for abueva's fan's out there. The are probable reason why Abueva has come back for the PBA game and that is to promote the PBA since many are longing for his comeback PBA would be great with Abueva's fan around. It all matters because this game is all about the crowd to which it will not going to fill the venue anymore. Just like the NBA the crowd now are using live streaming that can interact at the same time.

Good news that he will not play?  Grin...

Looks like you missed something here, phoenix included him in the roster but it wasn't allowed as Abueva's suspension was not officially lifted yet.

And for that, we can't tell if fans  will love that action coming from the boards, Abueva already been  out for such a long time.

This suspension should be lifted now and allow him to play inside the bubble, he's been missed and PBA should consider his addition to the thrill and not just the bad things that he made.

Giving him a chance will bring fans to support the bubble, it can't be denied that he still got someone who adore he's skills.

That's also the days that I've remembered him. With those teammates, those were the times that they've teamed up and played all right as if there's no roster shuffle that's going to happen. He enjoyed his entire PBA career and good luck to his new journey.

SMB san mig coffee, was that their team?
Yes. That was their team but I remember more it's Purefoods.

Abueva's contract has not expired yet, he has some offers from international league, I think that was in Japan if I'm not mistaken, so I guess he also have that plan considered in case PBA will be more hard to him.
IIRC, the first player to accept offer from Japan is Kiefer which I find it a good move for him as he can always go back to PBA easily.

It's not expected that he will play, people are just speculating based on the positive news they read about Calvin's case development, so hopefully people will not get disappointed, he will come back at the proper time for sure.
Either way, many are expecting especially his fans that he will make a comeback this year and many are hoping that he will play in the PBA bubble this October.

I would like to see a big surprise coming from our commissioner and one day he will say that "Abueva is eligible to play now in the PBA bubble. The suspension is lifted already and he will play this October.". For sure many fans will watch him to play again.

I'm afraid that those good news won't come this season of the PBA because that action of the commissioner of barring the inclusion of Abueva in the bubble just just put an end to all speculations that he would be back soon because the PBA had this policy that no one is allowed to enter the bubble once it begins.

Quote
Since PBA as a matter of policy won't allow anyone to enter the bubble while the season is ongoing

That's very clear already, the rule actually was no one is allowed to enter and if one will leave he will not be able to come back anymore.

For security purposes against covid-19, this is a good policy and everyone should follow.

@Mirakal, that's Balkman against his teammate/s, that's more serious than Calvin and the guy were even given a chance to play with Alab Pilipinas as an import, that's playing along with Brownlee. Let's protest!  Grin

Was there enough time, I thought the PBA organization are already collecting the final list of roster in their return, I guess the PBA will resume on October 9 next month, so there' a little time.

Other teams that didn't change their names I guess are Alaska Aces, San Miguel Beerman, and Ginebra San Miguel, am I correct? sorry not too familiar;

San Miguel did change it's name to Petron Blaze Boosters in 2010 if i'm not mistaken. That move is very controversial since there were rumors that time that Phoenix will be joining the PBA.
Thanks for the new info, I didn't know that, I thought they didn't change name, so only Alaska and Ginebra did not change their name, right?

Meanwhile we have some bad news for the Phoenix.

PBA disallows Phoenix from including Calvin Abueva in bubble lineup

Quote
THE PBA has disallowed Phoenix Super LPG from including the suspended Calvin Abueva in its lineup for the bubble season which is set to get going on October 11 in Pampanga.

The Fuel Masters initially included Abueva in its 25-man lineup for the Philippine Cup restart, but apparently have been barred from doing so since the controversial forward's indefinite suspension has yet to be lifted.

This is BS, Abueva has suffered enough and this become an injustice to the PBA players not just Calvin. If they want to ban him for hurting other players then they should have do it so that Abueva can move on and do what is appropriate for him and look for another league that would accept him.

Abueva's contract has not expired yet, he has some offers from international league, I think that was in Japan if I'm not mistaken, so I guess he also have that plan considered in case PBA will be more hard to him. That's our problem, we love foreign players a lot while we are to strict with our very own who are a good contribution in our Philippine team.

This Import was ban but later unban, guess he shouldn't be unban.

You are on point, yeah it's not expected since the suspension was not lifted yet, but you can't really take the hope of the fans to see the beast playing again. Since it was already reported that he was not included in the Phoenix roster when it return, then people will stop speculating.

PBA disallows Phoenix from including Calvin Abueva in bubble lineup

Calvin Abueva's suspension has now ran for 15 months and counting. He admits for his mistakes, trying to change for good, doing community projects, and involving in charities, still not enough?

As per the article, the deadline is today, Friday, for submitting the lineup so if that the case, Abueva won't be listed. Still a few weeks before the resume, I hope the decision will be made about lifting his suspension.

I think Abueva is expecting that he is now allowed to come back and play because of positive rumors.

That's very unfortunate, it's not actually him who is expecting, we the fans are also expecting that he'll return once the PBA resume, that's because of the good news about him that we have been reading lately, but it looks like he will have to wait again to play, if he can't play this conference, maybe in the next but it would be nice to really see him playing since it's an ALL Filipino conference where talents of the locals are showed.

As long as the suspension isn't lifted, he still can't join the conference.

Quite unfortunate since he has been suspended for more than a year already. Many are saying that this is too much of a punishment already but we can't blame the PBA management since he committed some mistakes. If he will play in the Bubble, for sure that more fans will watch on their home. many are waiting for his comeback in the court including me Cheesy.

Just wonder though if he is still be paid even if he opted out of the bubble.

According to Coach Yeng, YES.

SMB san mig coffee, was that their team?

Yes. That was a branch of the original Purefoods franchise. Just changing the brand name for advertisement purposes.

PJ Simon was on the team in 2004 so he experiences wearing the brand name of:

Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs
Purefoods Chunkee Giants
Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants
B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados
B-Meg Llamados
San Mig Super Coffee Mixers
Purefoods Star Hotshots
Magnolia Hotshots (current)

That's very informative @harizen.. I don't know they change their names many times, I think this is the only team who change names many times compared to other teams in the PBA. Other teams that didn't change their names I guess are Alaska Aces, San Miguel Beerman, and Ginebra San Miguel, am I correct? sorry not too familiar;

I remember those days when they are are playing solid with 2 Yaps pingris and Simon, they are amazing, the last team whoever won the Granslam if I do remember it right. With the guidance of coach Tim Cone.
I think so, though we can't hardly remember the past but his team with Yap and Pingris was really an exciting team to watch that time.
We saw the real defense which is different from the teams now where they mostly rely on 3 point shooting, their team is different.

I also saw a series of SMB against coach yeng where coach yeng walk out, can't remember what the exact game but that's what I can remember only.

Now we are seeing him (PJ) retiring he is an under rated star who brings the lift once Big game James have an off night.
Thanks for the entertainment, all will be remembered by the Hotdogs fans.

We might see James Yap and Pingris to retire soon, probably when their contract is over.

That's also the days that I've remembered him. With those teammates, those were the times that they've teamed up and played all right as if there's no roster shuffle that's going to happen. He enjoyed his entire PBA career and good luck to his new journey.

Another RETIREMENT NEWS!

PJ Simon retires after being relegated to free agent list

Quote
PETER June Simon officially retired from the PBA on Wednesday, ending a career that saw him rise from an unsigned, fifth-round rookie pick to one of the most reliable wingmen in Purefoods franchise history.

Simon announced he’s finally hanging his jersey just days after Magnolia relegated him to the free agent list three weeks before the Philippine Cup restarts this season inside a bubble at the Clark Freeport.

The 40-year-old guard made the announcement on his Instagram account.

one of the PBA players we will certainly missed, they had a good run with Big game James San Mig light IIRC, and they he was one of the biggest contributor, him, big game james and Pingris,.. I think we will see more retirements news.
