Somehow RDO got 2 Finals MVP. Considered also a top recognition and achievement for any player.
In Season MVP, it's really difficult to compete here since starting from Quarterfinals to Finals, players stats aren't counted anymore. So even a top-performing player of that conference never reached the playoffs, there is always a chance to be named as the PBA Season MVP.
Since you mentioned "fair", I've taken a look at those MVPs during RDO's season (I exclude his Air12 tenure) and I can say that PBA selected "quietly fair" here. Those seasons are the golden days of the likes of Mark Caguiao, JayJay Helterbrand, James Yap and his teammate Jimmy Alapag.
About Nelson Asaytono, yes that was in a discussion for a long-time now. He failed to achieve it and take note, he was nominated 5 times. And much worst, he didn't even include in the top 40 Greatest PBA Players of All-Time. Really a frustration on his side.
