The link you shared is not working, this is the correct link - https://pba.ph/news/aces-doing-their-share-in-own-small-way

well, you are correct, they are also doing their own initiative to help the people, I can say that PBA has a great organization as everyone is helping, from the team owner down to the player and the president like that especially the donation coming from the SMC.

on the related news : PBA team owners draw special thanks from Duterte

These are the names taken from the article who showed their support.

Quote
Business giants Ramon S. Ang and Manny V. Pangilinan and the Udena Foundation of Dennis Uy, all part of the PBA family, drew special thanks from President Rodrigo Duterte in the latter's latest address to the nation entering the third week of period of community quarantine amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

And this struggling time, the government can't do it alone, we need the private sector to help the government as we are not a rich nation, that's why as a citizen, I really appreciate what they did and I am proud to be a PBA fan.

Another good deeds of the SMC management, they are donating PPE's worth millions.

After alcohol and nutribuns, SMC donates P500 million for PPEs

They are showing that they can also share their big profits in time of crisis, Php 500 million is a huge sum of money, I can only think how profitable the SMC is and how big of a bonus the SMB team will receive when they win championship.

Good news to those PBA lovers and Esports lovers as well, Marc Pingris and Junemar Fajardo are going to play DOTA for a cause, for those who can relate to this game it's your time help and support the frontliners of our battle with this disease. I'm not an enthusiast of this game  Grin and don't have any idea of the mechanics on how we can support this endeavor.

https://www.pba.ph/news/pingris-fajardo-play-dota-for-worthwhile-cause

I can't find any mechanics too. According to the article, the event was started last March 24 and they are now done with Marvel of War.

Just 4 days ago, they managed to raised Php250,000 and now it rose to Php400,000. Good job for those who take part in this Mineski's event.

This is not a big event, and this is for a cause so the public are not interested with this, they will instead just focus on the real esports games than this one, and these two knows each other, they could rig the game and bet for themselves, so it's not gonna happen.

Yes, I agree there will be no online betting for these as it was a charity game.

But if there is, I disagree that it will be rigged. If you know the game mechanics, you can actually see and understand if something unusual is happening and I doubt these players will take advantage of the current situation that the nation is dealing with. The game is live. It's a disgrace as a public figure if something goes wrong. The players involved are kind and helpful so I doubt they will take advantage of the situation just to make a profit to themselves.

@bisdak40, if this is available in sprortsbook for betting, then I think it would be more exciting, I heard that Pingris was really playing online games but my first time to hear that Fajardo is also playing too.

Fajardo is already an online gamer since his ABL (Asean Basketball League) days. Junjun Cabatu was his partner back then and the later was also responsible in introducing him to Marc Pingris, that's one reason why they become best of friends.

I don't think this will be covered by the bookies as this is only a friendly tournament and a "play for a cause" event so they might not take it seriously.

SMB can hire  more good players and coaches but the combinations of Fajardo and Coach Leo will be there for the team.
They are the MVPs of their team,  Grin Grin... SMB might not be as successful as they are now without their coach, so it's just right to give credit to the coach as well since Austria is an experienced coach and he really know what he is doing.

Maybe Aurtria is good and lucky at the same time, but he is so lucky to have Fajardo as he has the most dominant man in the NBA, winning 6th straight MVP. If Austria is really good, this is his chance to prove that to the people and that is by winning the all filipino conference without Fajardo.

In the past when SMB make a history come back against the Alaska, they'll start winning only when Fajardo came back.

So using a simple math, No Fajardo means no big success for SMB.
He's lucky again as his team can rest for now due to corona, Fajardo have more time to rest. There's no rush  as we don't know how long this lockdown
will continue being implemented.
SMB franchise with coach Leo is in good hands.

SMB can hire good players as they are a big company, most of the teams that wins championships are own by big company, so it's expected.
For coach Leo, he is lucky for sure and I see him as a very serious guy and he always thank God for his success.  ( i can hear in his speech every time they won).

With Fajardo and him as a coach, they create a good recipe for success and I guess coach Leo will retire when Fajardo retires too.
S they both have good record in their PBA career.
Chances for that to happen is high, respect for those two people behind the continues success of SMB as a team. They've both created good legacies so in time that they've needed to to part ways they will be remembered together.

MVP and management should start doing the SMB strategy to attract players. $$$. They are the 2nd most big company that owned a team in PBA.
(...)
When it comes to salary, I guess SMB does not give much to their players, players are only attracted because they will be getting big bonuses when they win the championship, and that's big bonuses, so its kinda performance bonus.
I think most of the team also has this kind of bonus/performance bonus? Like winning some tournament or championship. But you are kinda right, SMB could have a bigger bonus compare to other teams.
San Miguel Beermen is an extremely huge team, not only the team but also a corporation in the Philippines. I think their funds or salary for their every player is not so big for them besides they will get a huge advertisement from them.

2nd most but they are still a billion peso company, they are big, they can afford to pay players and I think they should give attractive salary to their players. The TNT now are more compose of young players than veteran players, that's why they struggle in the playoffs or elimination.

Let's rephrase this into most of the teams that wins championships are owned by San Miguel Company lol.

That's why, as always, from the start, I root for the likes of TNT, Alaska or Rain or Shine to pulverize all SMC teams. But SMB teams are really strong. No questions about that. Players? Coach? The problem is lack of supporting roles at these non-SMC teams compare to SMC teams wherein you can bet that from starting lineup to bench, they have at least 1-2 good role players.

What do you think my fellow PBA fanatics, is he only lucky or he really has the skills to make the SMB successful?

He is a good coach but I can't tag him as great for now. Sorry about that. Maybe if he will transfer to another team or take the SMB into the championship without JuneMar. No need to win but just execute a strategy that seems effective.

He is not known for having a unique and signature strategy that is effective in the long-run like the strategy made by Tim Cone (iso off/def), Yeng Guiao (fast phase), Norman Black (1 center/4 perimeter off/def play), Chot Reyes (he handles the PH teams for several years). Austria's strategy is seemingly basic but because he has the most and best players in the league it was easily executed. And JuneMar doesn't seem to have a good and close rival up to this day contributing to the success of SMB franchise. I mean, don't get me wrong here. Just my opinion.

But on the other side, SMB players are already comfortable with Austria. They respect Austria. Their bond is strong that's why we can see that SMB does have a good relationship with each other. If players are not comfortable with their coach, no matter how simple the strategy is, it will be useless.

~snip~

Absolutely true AFAIC  Smiley.

All the other coaches preceding Austria failed to realized the importance of Fajardo. They think that he is just another giant whose role in the PBA is to rebound, block shots and give picks to the likes of Cabagnot and JayWash. They may say that during those times JMF15 is raw but as a coach you should be able to spot a gem in a pack of raw talent.

I could say that without Fajardo for now, SMB will not have the same success. I may be wrong but my instinct just tell me that is the scenario of the team in the future.

Do you think, if he will be replace by another coach, SMB would still have the same success?

This is an interesting topic and we may have different opinions here. Here is mine,

Before JuneMar came to SMB, they are already a strong team on paper but it's does not translate on the court. Until JMF15 was drafted but still the drama continued. Changing coach almost every season as most of them failed to blend chemistry to the team.

Then came coach Austria whose philosophy is very different from the others. His play is very simple, pass the ball to Fajardo downlow and look for the open spot and the rest is history. For me he is brilliant as he saw that missing piece of the puzzle which for me is not very hard to find as that piece is very huge, JMF15.
