It seems because of difficulty is going up and in the same time now bitcoin price is going down AntMiner S1 will be worthless to run sooner rather then later...
Only good possibility is in cold winter to overclock them if your electricity is "free"... you can use them as electrical heater in the same time...

You can upgrade your S1 to be just as fast and same efficiency as the S3 for .46 btc.

Let me be the devil's advocate:
Mining now not profitable. Even at sub 10c / KWh
At around $510 and a looming diff. increase of almost 25% in less than a week I pity the guys now taking delivery of their shiny new SP30s. Not that I am making money with my SP10 and these parameters either...

I unfortunately resemble those remarks above.
I do take solace in this small thought.... IF bitcoin survives it will say 5 years matter much less in HOW you got your bitcoin in that you got your bitcoin NOW
at say the prices below $1000 usd ....it may not have been as good as just buying coin vs mining....but wtf you probably would not have speculated as much $$
directly at btc (at least as a newbie like me) with out that first miner anyway! So if the mega bulls are right and btc someday hits say a modest 3k a coin...well
we can do what all people do with luck and wealth...lie like a rug that it was all due to our 'amazing financial foresight' ...another way of saying stupid/lucky/right circumstances
(hey if your gonna drink the kool aid you may as well get a 'pleasant buzz' off the stuff)

if I was in univ yet..i'd have taken a summer class in the dorms...they move you around different wings (or did) every 5 weeks or so as they do work on campus (paint etc)..man I coulda made a killing on free electric just bouncing around campus 4 or 5x over the summer
they could never trace it to you in them old dorms either

on block 22604 .
At this rate my payback will be sometime after the sun explodes and consumes the earth.

I see that S1 upgrade kits are now available from Bitmain, I have just ordered 2 so I can increase my hashing rate sadly they won't be ready for over a month, by then my S1's will be nearly useless with the current difficulty increases.
