BTC guild reports
"UPDATE: As of approximately 1:00 PM (Pacific Time), the attacks resumed.

UPDATE: As of approximately 10:15 AM (Pacific Time), the attacks seemed to have stopped."
Looks like a DDOS attack on a few pools

Are they DDos attacks , or is it all the new miner devices in the hands of beginners trying to get online?

Can you imagine:- 200 new BFL devices every day, all those users trying to set up their *.bat files
with the wrong input data(like website passwords instead of miner passwords)50 restarts before they ask for help?

Edit:- pool has just gone down

Edit 2:- even failover can make the problem worse.

Will P2Pool save us?

This is *very* suspicious and calls for attention  Huh

This has happened quite a few times over the last couple of years. In the end rollover to solo mining to keep the network safe. (And this is good opportunity to install and play with pool software if you're running an ASIC, since the client, of course, won't cope).

Except, for many of us solo mining = no mining.  There is a reason for pools.

If the bitcoin network has been compromised because all the pools are down then there'll be no mining for you anyway; solo mining is the last resort that protects the network. This attack certainly never came anywhere near to downing all the pools so whatever. (Don't forget that failover strategy...)
