how do you choose a coin or an ico? you go by the people on the project the whitepaper, you go for the benefits that the token can give, the transparency of the project you listen to what other people say? i tried to do all those things but im still new to this so i think i still have the sheep mentality

if I answer the essence of the question asked, then I believe that any exchange provides a rating of the best coins for investment or for trade. Also, every good coin has its fluctuations in price, What will give a good trader earnings on the difference in price. Let these fluctuations be plus or minus 5%, but with a starting capital of $ 600, this is already a good indicator of earnings.
DRGN (Dragonchain) or QASH both have huge potential to give insane amount of return on your investment! (In my opinion of course)

not x10, but though for x5 in the medium term I will advise to take Titanium from them very good potential and is obvious how many at them capitalization now, it isn't deserved, underestimate. the buying price - now, for $1,5-2. the optimum price of sale is $10.
Ethereum will be your best choice for long term holding. But it is unlikely to be x5-10 this year. Maybe x2-3. You'd better invest in 3-5 coins. For example, Ethereum, dash, Stratis
First of all I recommend to reconsider your decision about investing in only one coin. You have enough deposit to diversify it to 4-6 projects. If I were you I'd buy XEM, LTC, OCN, TRON, Quantstamp.

If you want to invest only in 1 coin and don't want to diversify your investment, i would advice you to invest.. in civic as it is a very capable platform. It is based upon the idea of identity verification which is low cost with help of blockchain technology. It also has a really strong devlopment team. p.s I want to buy 1 coin.

You can easily expect the price of civic to be above 10$ by end of this year for sure.
If you do not know much about crypto, it is safe to put your money in the top coins listed on CMC. But as I love Ethereum, I do have a strong feeling that NEO will be one of the alts that will do great this year. So you may have some digging about it.

Ethereum will be your best choice for long term holding. The value of this coins before is just 200$ and it decreases even better because of the issue on china that ico's has been banned but right now it manage to increase its value to 1k dollar due to the demand in the market coming from the investors so we should all believe on ethereum coins today because it does really have a bright future.
take your chance to buy some ethereum and NEO rightnow, we may never have the chance to buy them at a very cheap price like this agian, they may rise very fast in the future because they are being hunted by most of investors all around the world when the price low, no one can deny the advantages of their own characteristics, so using 600$ to invest in them can be very worthy.
In my opinion, the ETH variant that this year will definitely make a minimum of X5, but the market has a lot of coins that can make a bigger figure need them just look up

If you want to invest on altcoins and holding it for a long term then you should invest on ethereum coins. Eth coins was basically 300 dollars before and no one thought that it will increase up to 1k dollar today so probably it will increase even further after 5 years since bitcoins will be all mined as well.

I would advise you not to invest in 1 coin. Going all in is not a good idea, you could lose a lot of money. Instead, you should invest some amount of your money, say half of it, to some sound, established coins like ICX, STRAT, VEN etc., and the rest to more risky but more profitable coins. I would also suggest TRX and XRP for some quick hit and runs around 5-10%.
Invest half in well established coin like XLM, ICX or STRAT and the other half in low marketcap coin where is a nice potential to go 10x-20x - like ONION, LUX or SEND.
