Crypto is still very new compare to traditional payments system, so it is not surprising to see that many people from different parts of the world still unaware of it's existence, but compare to 5 years back, the awareness is gradually increasing, Crypto and btc is evolving.

it's not too surprising, even though bitcoin was born in 2009, my community still lacks knowledge of technology at the time, and until now many of them don't know bitcoin, but many young people are creating their own tokens / coins, in order to be able to introduce bitcoin and others so as not to lag with other countries

Only proving that bitcoin / crypto is not yet popular to all side of the world, not even around in a well developed country like US.

Not everyone have time to read and understand how this currency works, most only think that it's just scam due to bad publicity

that are spreading around their communities.

There is nothing to be surprised. Still there are a lot of people around the world even did not hear about Bitcoin and American people are no different of course. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.

We are sill in the early stage of bitcoins.

I am more surprised because as big as America is; they have some of the biggest channels which information is passed through across the world. A simple Google check up of what Bitcoin is wouldn't cost a thing.

We are still in the early stage of Bitcoin

I think I have to go with this.

Like you said, "we are still in the early stage of Bitcoin". Not just Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency in general.
You won't believe that some countries in some continents doesn't no clue about what a Bitcoin or cryptocurrency is, Even USA. And shows how far back we are in pushing crypto to get adopted by people.

I can't agree with you. In last year I've read an article about American crypto user. In that article I've read that about 36.5 million Americans own crypto.

There are a lot of crypto user in America. it's really surprising to me that an American freelancer doesn't know about BTC. many freelancers get payment in BTC. and as a freelancer I think, all freelancers know about all major online currency, if they use it or don't.

Like what they've said, 1. You just bumped into 2 clients and not the rest of the population so it's not so easy to conclude that most Americans are not familiar with bitcoin, and 2. You also got a point somehow, it's not quite shocking if most of the people you encountered don't know bitcoin. I mean, it was a new technology after all so it was understandable if only geeks like us knew it for now. Actually, even a bank staff which I talk with here in my country don't know about it. What more for a simple person Cheesy

Not only Americans, but there are still many other people who do not know Bitcoin. Even many entrepreneurs know Bitcoin, but they don't want to use Bitcoin as a media transfer. Many people think Bitcoin is a very confusing thing, let alone Bitcoin prices are easy to change. So they are too risky to accept Bitcoin as a media transfer. In my country, there are also many people who do not know Bitcoin. That makes them not knowing about Bitcoin because there is not much news about Bitcoin information, probably in America like that.

I don't think there's anything surprising here There are many countries in the world not just America who still know nothing about Bitcoin and Ethereum They have heard the name but have no idea how to use it. However Fiat currency is in circulation almost everywhere Since they cannot pay in Bitcoin and Ethereum you can take your payment in Fiat currency However if the introduction of Bitcoin then their country will be more developed.

I had two clients from America I want offer graphics designing jobs for, I demanded my payment would be in BitcoinBTC or Ethereum. To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. Cheesy Roll Eyes
Well you should be the one to adjust because they are your clients and they are the reason for your living. Being dismay in your part is a natural reaction since you do like cryptocureency transaction. However, if they pay using cryptocurrency then that would be lot better and you can make any deposit and to use it anytime. Now, if you think of their payments will be gone directly to your investment like bitcoin or ethereum then you can also convert your deposit into cryptocurrency thought you will have to pay a small amount of transaction fee.

Nevertheless, if one will make more demand from clients that will be resulting to negative impression on you will be a disgrace for your business. Keep in mind that clients should always satisfy your service with corresponding payment either crypto or fiat currency.

I'm also surprised because America is a developed country and maybe not all developed countries know about Bitcoin. Hmm, Bitcoin have is launch a long time ago and there are still many people who don't know, but you don't need to be disappointed because you can explain to your clients what is that Bitcoin or Ethereum and what it does.

Well, I'm not entirely suprised because not even in America but across virtually everywhere, not everyone really knows about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. The fact that the government and regulators are trying so hard to paint bitcoin to be a digital currency being used for illegal deals always turn off people to really learn about it but i think that's about to change as even merchants and vendors are beginning to adopt API and plugins that will enable them receive payments in bitcoin. I'm sure everyone starts "seeing we accept bitcoin" in grocery stores, they'll know bitcoin the more

Bitcoin is a complicated phenomenon. People hold different views on what it is. I did a survey on this forum. I found people hold different views of Bitcoin. We don't really agree on what Bitcoin is. It's confusing for new learners.

There's a problem with the Bitcoin educational material. People are afraid of being wrong. So they stick with the "safe" approach. They present Bitcoin as a technology. Then it's up to viewers to interpret what Bitcoin is.

maybe he doesn't know the current technological developments or he may never use the internet so he lags behind the information that is trending in today's world
Or maybe he's too old to adopt changes in our modern technology and finds it very complex so he/she doesn't know how or don't want to use it. According to a report, the average age group of cryptocurrency investors is 37-44 but I've noticed that there is plenty on the younger generation too that are using cryptocurrency.

While in the other study, it shows that 18-34 years old use cryptocurrency.

Here's the study where I learned about the ages of the crypto investors; https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3501549##

Bitcoin does not necessarily have to be used by everyone around the world, but if only 3% of them know and 1% use it and make profits, we can easily know the rest about it.
Innovations in the early days do not achieve much turnout, but in short periods they succeed in winning thousands and perhaps millions of followers.
I believe in less than 10 years more than 20% of Americans will know about bitcoin

From the very beginning, the US government was very suspicious of bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies. High risk propaganda was launched when investing in cryptocurrency. On this basis, citizens were prohibited from participating as investors in ICO projects. So partly it worked. People are very weakly interested in cryptocurrency in the United States.
On the other hand, in relatively wealthy countries, where the high income of citizens is relatively less interested in cryptocurrency, than in poor countries.

Bitcoin has only been around for the past 10 years and is really famous since 2017 so very few people can know about bitcoin. In addition, governments don't like bitcoin and cryptocurrencies so they restrict the media coverage of bitcoin.

I'm hoping that you are aware about the use of BTC since 2016, we are really having a hard time promoting bitcoin in social media platforms. It is very hard for us that time to address the government about the benefits and advantages of bitcoin as an asset to investment. We are trying so hard because we know that bitcoin is full of potential.

Maybe, until now there are a lot of people who are still not that knowledgeable about how bitcoin works as a cryptocurrency in the market, especially US citizens. Some governments really treat bitcoin as a scam or fraud that's why they stick to the use of fiat in many transaction in their territory

But in the future bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market will have tremendous growth and I believe that cryptocurrencies will be a part of world finance.

You should contribute too in the promotion and advertising of bitcoin in many platforms. Just by using it in some transactions is a simple but big help towards reaching mass adoption. Especially during this pandemic, digital currencies like crypto are very useful nowadays and becoming more popular.

Unfortunately, this is not a phenomenon only people from the US suffer from. Across the globe, there are millions of people who despite them living in a developed country don't know about BTC or cryptocurrency at all.

Ignorance for some is the norm, so there's the extra battle regarding adoption we as a community need to consider also. Simply having access to the internet isn't going to have people accept this new wave, and the matter is more complicated by people being either ignorant or not having access to the infrastructure - it's complicated!

Not all people in the whole world are already aware about bitcoin because some of them doesn't have gadgets ,computers or modern technology where they can find the word Bitcoin. So,don't be surprised because even here in my area ,a lot of people doesn't know what is bitcoin and where to find it.
