How did you conclude that most Americans do not know Bitcoin? Is it because two customers do not know about it.
Recent reports talk about the knowledge of more than 60% of Americans with bitcoin, and confirmed that about 5% of them are ready to invest.
The OP have every right to be surprised when his two customers which is from the US seems not to be aware of bitcoin because 60% of all people in the US have heard about bitcoin while 14% own bitcoin and i dont know where you get your own statistic information.

Adoption is created by the movement of capital heads. a single wealthy can buy what millions of investors cannot buy.
if you had three of those we will make price rise to 100000
I agreed with you on this one and the wealthy accumulator you mentioned are called whales and they are the major player in this current market.

I had two clients from America I want offer graphics designing jobs for, I demanded my payment would be in BitcoinBTC or Ethereum. To my greatest dismay, they were dumfounded on what Bitcoin or Ethereum is. I am still suprised up to this very moment. Cheesy Roll Eyes
There is nothing to be surprised about it we all have different interest and some would just ignore what other find interesting so there isn't something to be surprised when someone doesn't know about something that is in trend or popular.
Just because it is in trend or popular doesn't mean that everyone would know it , This would also apply on some great hit songs but others wouldn't know the title of the music or some great movies or series.

Yeah who would think as big as America and as technologically advance as they are very few people in that country knows about btc, I would think they have the largest number of people who are aware of btc but surprisingly that's not the case here, maybe they don't need btc since they are rich folks there and the government takes care of the citizens.

This is sad reality, for those who are dreaming of btc taken over fiat should get ready for along dream, this just goes to show that we are very far from the dream of getting btc use by the majority, the government of each country are not helping in this situation, their constant threat to ban btc is part of the reason why many people don't embrace it, all the bad publicity surrounding btc also scare people away, this is for those who hear about it and don't want to use it because of the obvious mentioned,

The worst is for those who haven't heard of it at all even with several years of existence, it is very surprising to hear though, at least they must have come across adverts online about btc or other crypto to make them wonder. This is 21st century people.

I am not surprised with that story, even though the bitcoin community is really big, there are still so many people who don't even use this kind of cryptocurrency because their government didn't allow it on their country or some people do not even explore things about cryptocurrency, there are still so many countries that do not accept the bitcoin in their country, just like in my country, our president does not allow bitcoin because of some reasons but there are still some people like me who are still using it for some online transactions, investing and trading purposes.

This is quite surprising that lot of Americans yet do know about it. Because its fine if people do not invest or trade with crypto out there. But not knowing itself is a very big thing for me to know. Because now even smaller countries which are under developed know about it though may not be all of them but still its more than a decade old bitcoin being existing.

There are still many people who really do not know bitcoin, even in America the largest number of bitcoin ATM machines in the world, still exists
people who don't know bitcoin. But this is a natural thing to happen, because bitcoin users around the world still have a small percentage. It is
also possible that the two clients from America are not active on social media, and have never entered the world of investment. So the two people
it still doesn't know about bitcoin.

This is not isolated case in America, in many countries in the world there are many people who still haven't heard of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general. Any many of those who did don't want to use it or don't trust it.
We have global problem with awareness about Bitcoin, not only in America and it seems that problem is hard to be solved. If there is no awareness there will be no adoption too.

There is nothing to be surprised. Still there are a lot of people around the world even did not hear about Bitcoin and American people are no different of course. Even those who heard about bitcoin to them it's a scheme or something which will pop up soon.

We are sill in the early stage of bitcoins.

It's kinda funny Bitcoin is over a decade old and yet not even half of the world has embraced it yet Grin

People always listens to their government and whatever it says they think that it is right and only a few question the government. The same is with bitcoins, government is on its propaganda to stop the usage of bitcoins so it is campaigning against the acceptance of bitcoins and people are also believing the government but only a few like us knows the truth that how bitcoins is revolutionising the payment systems and also the currency as we know it.

The world is filled with ignorants who prefer to live in their own "cozy" worlds, but when something happens with the "system" it is never their fault.
This just shows how much more exposure can cryptocurrencies gain - the average joe doesn't know what Bitcoin is, not even talking about using it. Anyway - you can get that payment in FIAT and DUMP it like a boss for some precious crypto. Wink

Largest Bitcoin Ownership Survey Reveals 6.2% of Americans Own Bitcoin, While 7.3% are Planning to Buy Some. NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A new survey of 5,000 Americans between the ages of 18 and 65+ reveals the American population's position when it comes to Bitcoin ownership

Check these out op:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.coindesk.com/survey-nearly-80-of-americans-have-heard-of-bitcoin%3famp=1
https://www.google.com/amp/s/cointelegraph.com/news/93-of-brits-have-heard-of-bitcoin-but-only-4-have-bought-it-survey-shows/amp

These surveys are just a couple of examples to prove that most of the world has heard of BTC, but very few invested in it which is why adoption rates are low currently.

This happens when you believe all the so-called studies and polls made by companies that deal with crypto. Ever wondered how a poll on drinking coffee would look if it was made by Starbucks or by Dilmah ?
All those numbers with 10% 20% of the population owning crypto...don't they sound strange to you? Look close to you, to your family, to your friends, to your co-workers, do the figures stand up?

I've continuously said that a lot of you a biased view on the rest of the world perception and adoption of BTC, it's like a gamer that plays 18/7 WoW and suddenly when he is at a table with some different friends is amazed not everybody is playing that game and nobody at that table knows what the game is about.

You've found two Americans that don't know or don't want to deal with BTC, search better you're going to find a thousand, and it's not just Americans, Spanish, Polish, Italians, Russians, Thai or Brazilians there are millions who haven't heard of it out there. Ther are just 22m addresses with a balance over 1$ in the chain, 0.3% of the world if it would be one address per person..although I own 11 of those..
Make that 3 per person and it means only 1 in a thousand people own some dust.

Nothing to be surprised, it's reality!

There's nothing to be surprised of because there are still many people out there who don't know what bitcoin is and there's a bigger population who knows what bitcoin is but have never used it before because of their reasons.
But at the same time there are also people who accepts BTC as payment for designing and development stuff.
There are both kinds of people around the world.
What you can do is try to convince them to pay in bitcoin while educating them on how to use it.

I wouldn't suprised if someone don't know bitcoin or crypto-currency either from USA or from my own country. Perhaps still no one introduced bitcoin to them. I had watched a TV news report from my country where even educated students from university don't know about bitcoin even they hadn't heard this name. Reason is very simple as I said above. But when you asked your clients to pay with bitcoin then most likely they will research about it and we can say it's one kind of adoption. Wherever we worked we might share about bitcoin with our nearest friends and clients. So we will see more adoption into bitcoin. Rather than laugh to them better to explain briefly about bitcoin and that's how we could keep out role on bitcoin promotion.

It's not surprising if your client is old school guy since for sure he didn't know about it, bitcoin has not been advertise and no big adoption has coming up yet.

But it's a good opportunity to help bitcoin to widen the market and introduced it to your boss and make him understand on what is the use as well on how he can earn a benefits from it.

Don't get dismay is bitcoin still unknown since it's pretty normal.

I won't be surprised if an American or even any country citizen didn't know about bitcoin. I don't know the updated exact population of the bitcoin users on each country and the only thing I know is not everyone is well informed or it is the first time they hear the word 'bitcoin' from you.

I can agree with this, Knowing that some companies are still adopting bitcoin on their own and many bitcoin users are pushing bitcoin as their main currency for transactions.

Why would it be weird that most people no matter where they live don’t know what Bitcoin is? People have no idea about some of the most basic things, like who their current president is or where a very famous country is on the world map. And those optimistic surveys stretch the number of those who own and use Bitcoin to as much as 1% of the world's population, which is actually fewer people than the population of Germany or almost 5 times less than the population of the USA.

It's not just Americans, stop 100 people anywhere in the world and ask them to explain to you in layman's terms what Bitcoin is - at least 95% won't say anything or will give a completely meaningless answer. I would mostly blame the media for that, but most of them are just a tool of big capital that wants to shape the world according to their wishes. Today, the USA has 4 or 5 large media corporations that occupy 99% of the media market, and the media are a very powerful weapon.

People who are poorly educated, who are constantly exposed to misinformation and are constantly afraid of something are a very grateful audience that can be manipulated in all possible ways, as much as necessary.

Even if you heard of it, it doesn't mean you understand it. A lot of people "buy BTC" on centralized platforms just for the profit, without having a single idea about the actual aspects of the coin.

I noticed a change in the circle of friends I hang around with - it was usually me talking about Bitcoin whenever we met; now, to my surprise, it's them starting the subject first. Friends that I haven't spoken with for a long time now even own some coins themselves. Although your customers might've not had a single clue, chances are a few months later they'll be BTC owners too! Smiley
