Just wondering don't alt coins have some value because they are easy to mine and provide a competition for bit coin.

I do fully realize that most of them will die but i do not believe they were only created to be pump and dump scams.

A lot of people think they are which i do not really get. Anyway if someone feels differently can you please post an explanation.

And don't yell at me for repeating something because i don't have the time to brows thorough 200 pages of discussion.

 Thanks. Huh Huh Huh

I just wanted to post a warning about dogecoin mining pools. I have lost an estimated 2 million doge to a fake pool (doge. Cryptopool. It)

I started mining last week and got my first payout. I then left 10MH running over a long weekend. When I got back I had  1 Mill in my account unpaid, but had been expecting at over 2 by calculations from diff and hash rate.

I thought the pool was just lagged out, but when I tried a manual payout I got an interesting message which went a bit like:
"You thought the world was your oyster. This time you're not getting your pearl. "

Basically, it was a sarcastic message from the admin admitting that he had stolen the coins.

(I know there is a dedicated thread about this pool, but I thought the admin's cheeky message would be interesting to some people who still hope that they might get their coins. As a newbie, I can't reply to that thread).

Hi,

I'm new to altcoins but it starts to get confusing when every few weeks a new coin comes up and beats some established ones. How do you go about this?

Thanks.

You disregard them. They'll be flash in the pans in the long run, and only few coins will have value in the real world.

Hi,
did anyone try to mine Dogecoins at doge.cryptopool.it? I've been mining for 2 days (off and on, not continiously) but didn't receive any coins so far.
This also looks a bit strange: Est. Shares 496714 (done: 1918.87%). 2k%? Can you be this unlucky or is the pool broken?
Down for 24 hours for server upgrades. DOGE got big in a hurry! I'm using doge.poolerino.com for tonight. It has an identical page layout. Cheesy

+1 - MPOS is a very clean nice looking front end. Poolerino is good but for some reason the past 2 blocks have hung up and taken forever and a day to complete. Good payouts nonetheless though, come on over the waters warm.

Probably getting late to jump on the doge bandwagon. What took 2 days to mine now takes 2 weeks!

I'm using poolerino though. Good site!

Is there any list of newly announced alt-coins? I've found this thread but it was nos not updated for the last few months.

thanks!
coinwarz.com it has all kinds of handy charts and alt coin calculators. DOGE coin is currently the best to mine, I started last night.

Difficulty is pretty hard right now, but it's still the best of any coin for profitability as far as I can tell.

Most of the alt-coins just look like a copycat to me.

They add pretty nothing new and are just something to mine at low diff, inflate and trade with BTC that is the only way to cash FIAT money.

Even Litecoin add just few improvements but it's still a copycat that depends on how BTC goes. Ending with one of the latest, Dogecoin, started as a joke, but at least could be considered the first viral coin, the one who approached the "mass" to the world of crypto-currencys.

I think alt coins aren't really necessary but I guess some competition is healthy.
