Hi there,
I am just about to start mining.
Originially I wanted to go into Litecoin, but due to the profitability charts on coinwarz.com I decided to start with different alt-coins.
I am going to streamline my mining strategies with a self-written script.

Hardware spec:
Board:     ASRock 970 Extreme4
CPU:         AMD Sempron 145
RAM:        4GB G.SKILL DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2GB)
Power:      Corsair AX1200i
HDD:        Toshiba MQ01ABD032 320GB
GPU:        3 x Sapphire VaporX R9 280x

All parts are here on my desk, I will start assembling asap.

Any recommendations regarding a good performing multi alt-coin pool?
I already tried miningpool.co with a low-end setup but it seems to have payout problems from time to time.

Try cloud servers. I'm currently minig with 15 x 8 CPUs (3 accounts at DO) = 120 CPUs for $30 Cheesy Check my tutorial for more info http://dogecoin.ga/dogecoin_mining_cloud_servers.htm

Good luck! Smiley

Are programs for mining DOGE coins safe? Can I use them on Ubuntu?
I would like to mint many of them coins for dogs. Wow.

Yes you can, look for pooler-puminer-2.3.2.tar.gz I'm using it on my cloud servers Smiley

Lesson learned: ALWAYS mine the first day!
Same lesson learned here. I even mined for Apecoin, though it seems to say: "I'm just a prank" :-)

5 hours after Dogecoin launching I told my friend with a mining rig about it. He didn't mine it since he was already invested in Litecoin, and it seemed like a joke instead of an actual coin. I went ahead and mined with my pitiful CPU, but that was enough for a rate of 250,000 on the first day. Had he mined with me the first week 200,000,000 would have been easy. Lesson learned: ALWAYS mine the first day!

Hi,
did anyone try to mine Dogecoins at doge.cryptopool.it? I've been mining for 2 days (off and on, not continiously) but didn't receive any coins so far.
This also looks a bit strange: Est. Shares 496714 (done: 1918.87%). 2k%? Can you be this unlucky or is the pool broken?

You can keep an eye on the Alternative Cryptocurrencies forum here on BT.  Most altcoins will have announcements or even pre-announcements about launches.

You won't be able to post outside of this forum, however, until you've reached 1 post and 4 active hours logged on the forum.

Enjoy Smiley

I have dedicated several work computers to mining Primecoins (XPM)

I have been watching XPM also for a few weeks - the difficulty went up from something as 9.8x to now 9.99x and now to 10.1x. I had been investigating about rules of thumb probabilities for hitting a block, and was a bit confused by some forum statements. I remember a statement interpreting "10 - 9.8x" as the percentage for a found prime chain to fit the difficulty level. Since the difficulty is now > 10 this is obviously wrong. Long text short question: are you solo mining or using a pool?

Regarding the original post:
Yes, it seems like there is a new alt-coin hitting the scene every week. There is definitely money to be made by speculators, but I don't think I have a knack for that. I have dedicated several work computers to mining Primecoins (XPM). XPM have lost over 60% of their value since I started mining, but I'm going to continue because mining is more of a hobby than a retirement plan. Also, I like that XPM miners have made several world record discoveries of prime numbers.

Good luck to the rest of you.

Some of the new coins were easy to mine, but it seems only for a short time. I made a few solo blocks with Frozen, right now it seems no longer possible. To me it looks like that there is at the moment still a big run to every new coin.

I wonder if the majority here is solo mining alt coins or is joining pools Smiley

Glad to be here now!

I mined Zetacoin and I have always used a pool, it just makes more sense rather than putting in loads of time and getting nothing, a pool kinda guarantees you a regular payment

My very first experience with a cryptocoin and it seems I have come across a shady pool Sad

They turned off manual withdrawals this morning while I was asleep and upped the auto payout threshhold shortly after.

I love NXT...you better have a look...there are some things (most of all the distribution of ALL NXT to 71 stakeholders) which could have been done better, but I am looking forward to seeing NXTs future Smiley
