Activity and new member group limits is very clear formula explained to new member like me thanks for it. What I have noticed is more posts and less activity in most of the members. Just now only I came to know it is due to the signature campaigns posts

2) Am I understanding this right: if someone makes a million posts in 1 day (hypothetically of course), they will remain a newbie.. however if they then make just 1 single post every 2 weeks after that, their activity will go up by 14 activity per 2 weeks instead of just 1 activity? Is that correct? So it could be said posting more than once per day is not useless.. if you plan to post less than this at a later date (provided you make at least one post every 2 week period).

Thanks.

Correct. If you have excess number of post, you'll only need to make one post to claim 14 activity points every two weeks.

Two questions -

1) The first post here in this thread shows 60 activity for member, and yet the other post 70 activity. Which one is current?

2) Am I understanding this right: if someone makes a million posts in 1 day (hypothetically of course), they will remain a newbie.. however if they then make just 1 single post every 2 weeks after that, their activity will go up by 14 activity per 2 weeks instead of just 1 activity? Thanks.

1- 60 activity to become a member. And since the activity increases by 14 then once someone reach 60 he can advance in activity to 70 (14 activity x 5 periods)

2- you only need to make 1 post per period to have 14 activities. But remember once this post is deleted you will loose your activity for that period so it is wise to make several posts in different topics and subs each period

How can I increase my ranking to Jr. member?

Stay here to 1.5 months and send posts.
I think it's about 30 days ( 1 day = 1 activity ) but it needs 42 days to the turn updating the activity points.

14 activities per 14 days (per period)
For more precision when the periods start https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12saLhlUoqIdairxzuSPu6EYGrt7FN2lOstO1yDjCEbA/htmlview?pli=1

This is a hell.

I'm the boss of a 11k members forum, I know how hard it is to make rules and avoid abuses.

But I'm also a developer providing tools (for free..) and I can't illustrate my topic with screenshots:

Oh guys.. that's terrible  Shocked

I'm not running for points, reputation or whatever, I don't give a damn about how many messages do I post.
But it feels stupid to wait days doing nothing to unlock a common feature.

Best regards

Ian

Take a look in theymos post here, it may help you if you want

The presentation on various activity levels and ranks is quite appreciative. But I've been wondering the brain behind members being demoted. Can I be equipped the penalties  for breaking rules and regulation guiding this forum?

I wouldn't call it a penalty.
The more you make posts the more you get activity the more you advance in ranks.
Now the opposite, the more you post in shitty topics the more your posts get deleted the more you lose activity the more you decrease in ranks.
Obviously obvious!

Im newbee here, what does it mean by the word necro-ing and necro bump?

Lol. Pretty much what you just did by responding to a post from 2013. A simple google search would have told you everything you needed to know. You should also google 'shitposting'.

(Internet) To post, as on a forum, to revive a long inactive discussion thread.

It's something the spammers do to build up their post count, find old inactive threads and just post something irrelevant on the end when there is no need to other than build their post count.

That's a good idea though. If only hero members could start topics then there wouldn't be so many useless "why are there only 21m Bitcoin" topics.

Some of the best threads aren't started by Hero Members, though. Also, I'm not sure people mind repeating themselves or posting links to the wiki.

I vote for a rule that takes off points for every necro bump. The older, the more points disappear.

While this is not a horrible idea, lazlo's pizza transaction was all but forgotten till lulzplzkthx necro'd it:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.93554

I would agree that generally a necro is a bad idea, though.

I understand that many good ideas are presented by newbies but limiting their posts would require more research on their part before asking a well known topic again. Maybe not hero member for topic start, possibly full member first.

Disallowing a necro bump is about as ridiculous as forbidding history books in schools. We all learn from history. Necro bumping is putting forward a bit of history for all to view.

Restricting newbs from making posts is also ridiculous. And I don't see what's wrong with necro-ing a thread, as long as the information or topic is still relevant. It's better than starting a new topic at least.

This is good because I see a lot of similar posts in local threads. A lot of newbies are asking about it. However, take note that there's a little delay on the update. I think the update is evey 2nd tuesday, however my status was updated a day before, so just be patient.

I can't understand how can we calculate activity.

It is too complicate  Undecided

You get 14 activity every two week period. Not that complicated and that's all you need to know. Table of how many periods for each rank for reference:

1 X 14 = 14
2 X 14 = 28
3 X 14 = 42   --  Jr. Member ( 1.5 month)
4 X 14 = 56
5 X 14 = 70   --  Member (2.5 month)
6 X 14 = 84
