Altcoins can give you a much larger profit than Bitcoin, and they also solve much more real world problems. They have developers where you could talk to. And lastly, most of them have physical stores.

I think the main advantage of altcoins is the price per transaction. Altcoins transfer is much cheaper than bitcoin.

For my own opinion bitcoin and altcoins have no differences, they both have advantages and disadvantages. Some says that altcoins has faster transaction speed but sometimes bitcoin is faster depending on the network. Some says bitcoin has high transaction fees, maybe because it has high value also.
Bitcoin has 2 main problems - the speed of transactions and the scalability of the network. In this case, bitcoin is very reliable, which is its huge advantage over the altcoins. Any of the altcoins solves only one of the problems of bitcoin, while the reliability of the network always suffers. The market will get a new impetus to development, when there will be a crypto currency that solves at least one of the problems of bitcoin, while remaining the same reliable.
Investing on hype altcoin is one of best way to make profits in short time period in cryptocurrency market. But there is a risk than investing on bitcoin or ethereum.
