Senegal chances dropped after Sadio Mane injury and withdrawal from the list of players unfortunately. They were able to advance to the next stage but that doesn't mean they lost that possibility obviously but their chance was reduced.
Mane doesn't make the team, he depends on his teammates to find the back of the net. Contrary to what other people may say, I don't think his absence is going to be such a big issue as long as they play as aggressively as a team, their odds will be higher. And they may be the second African team to reach the knockout stages after Ghana. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I agree with you on this. I don't think the African countries that will be playing in the world cup in Qatar have what it takes to make it to the knockout stage. We have Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, and Senegal in the world cup but the African Champions are expected to go far this time if not because of the injury case of their hitman Sadio Mane who everyone believes would have been a strong force in the team of Senegal. Well, I guess we should be hopeful because football is not by big names the players in Tunisia and Ghana are good players and their groups are difficult but I believe they will shock the world because they will come out from their groups to the next stage.
In my opinion, the most intimidating African squad in the World Cup is Ghana. Knowing who you are up against makes scouting and planning for all the African teams quite simple. You have no idea what Ghana is like. Additionally, Senegal has the greatest chance of all the teams to advance. However, neither Cameroon, Morocco, nor Tunisia are likely to go past the group stage.

Ghana could pass if they play good, their group is a bit harder than Senegal but easier than the other African teams. Tunisia won't pass, Cameroon isn't lucky and Morocco might get a chance.

in this year's World Cup I personally do not have any expectation from African countries, this is not the right time for Africa countries because many of the African countries that are familiar to my hearing did not go to the World Cup. I don't know many of them except for Cameroon and Ghana.
The one African country that would have had good chances of going far in the World Cup is Senegal because they are the champions of Africa but since their star man is no longer with them I don't know how far they can go

senegal is not the only good team in africa, tunisia and morocco play very well and could even perform well but they have very strong opponents in their group too, that's why you shouldn't expect anything big from africa teams and fifa continues being unfair to Africa when it puts only 5 teams from the African continent even knowing that the African continent has many countries, I don't know what those damn fifa think when they only put 5 teams from Africa for the world cup, but the fact is that also in africa due to corruption the championships are weak and even deficient, for an african player to be able to play well he needs to go to play in europe

Ghana players are better than the way they used to play.  Many people don't have confidence in Ghana because of their record of football in the past.  Ghana was underrated in the AFCON tournament,  Ghana surprised many people for the fact that they were able to qualify in the AFCON game. This time in the FIFA World Cup game  Ghana might break another record again.

Ghana has always been a very strong team, when Mourinho was coach of Chelsea there were many good players from Ghana playing for Chelsea, the problem is that in Africa the teams are weak, the championships are very poor in all areas, the players win bad, this is big corruption and african governments do not take soccer seriously, as a result african players are not competitive at the european level, only the few african players that manage to play in europe teams can compete with europeans, but a there are 11 players in the team and they all need to be good players to have good results, it won't do any good to have 4 African players playing in europe in a team of 11 players, they didn't get far. senegal even if they had mane they would be eliminated soon

I think senegal and morroco are the ones showing promise right now they both did well this year and especially in their recent friendly games it seems that moroco group is more difficult with belgium and croatia so senegal chances are higher to reach the second phase but i expect moroco to show great performance and results too.

Africa's performance in the world cup is always inconsistent because they don't have well established teams like thier European and American counterparts. Senegal is the hope of Africa for me in this world cup. I pray they would have a smooth run in the group stage so that Mane can be part of the team after recovering from injury. Morrocco don't have a formidable team like Senegal, but they can still pull some surprises because one cannot underate any world cup team. I am really expecting that this world cup would be different for African teams. It would not be bad to see an African team in the semi finals.

The super eagles team are a real disappointment when you watch them play and I can't figure out what seems to be the cause of these poor performances for the Super eagles. I knew it would be difficult for us to play Portugal even in friendly game and it turned out to prove me right as the match ended in 4 nil humiliating score line. I just wonder when we will begin to play nice football and competing for trophies.
From 2015, Super eagle in a total mess up. There is no way to even watch their match again. Look what happened yesterday, Portugal scored them 4-0 for what. That shows the unseriousness of the team. There is no good players in the Super Eagle football team again. With what I saw in that match, Nigeria Super Eagle can not even win AFCON cup. It is better Nigeria national team should not play football again until the management is restructured. There are very good players in the local teams that can be used in the Super Eagle but they are corrupt so they won't pick those boys to come and play.

It is certain that Sadio Mane will not be able to play in this tournament. This development was, of course, a big disappointment for Senegal and Mane. But they will go through the group phase. They are obviously the best African team at the World Cup. They will probably win the Africa Cup next year as well.

I agree with you on this. Sadio Mane was a very important football player for the Senegal national team. It is very sad for him and the Senegal national team that he will miss the tournament. But I believe the Senegal national team can fill his absence. Ismaila Sarr and Boulaye Dia performed well this year. In addition, the Senegal national team have star football players like Koulibaly and Pape Matar Sarr. They are definitely a strong team. They may be the best performing African team in the world cup. I believe that they will bring dynamism to the tournament.

I'm team Senegal, by the way, and no, it's not simply because of Mane. Also rooted for them in SKorea/Japan World Cup. Have to say they don't play as attractive football these days (I watched Afcon) compared to then, but World Cup is a different affair yeah?

Lets forget the fact that Sadio mane has won over the heart of all Africans, I mean the guys has basically done so much that our politicians can't never do in their lifetime due to their corruptness. Without the fact that we all love Mane and want to see him succeed, Senegal is Africans best best at Qatar, with Senegal we're guarantee that the Africa flag will be flying high at Qatar so definitely we all are solidly behind them to bring home the trophy.

And non-Africans too. He's a bloody genuine good guy, makes waves back in Liverpool, trying to be Scouser and all. Just the kind of guy I like, everyone likes, and no one can hate. I'm gutted he's not playing but still, team Senegal!

World Cup is stronger and tougher than AFCON, so you can't compare the two, though you are  comparing payers skills, and since they are going to play with another country, African players have to increase their tactics in the world cup.

I agree Senegal will have to play different tactics. Afcon was a careful tournament, everyone was playing mind games and conserving energy. World Cup's probably going to reward those who take more risks and some teams might feel they have a physical advantage. Better make the most of it.

but have you seen what Portugal played against Nigeria yesterday? Not only the 4-0 but the dominance and tactics of the team. Ghana is not just a match!
It was terrible from the Nigerian side. They played nothing but an excellent display of unpatriotism. This is what is called a friendly game that turns sour and becomes a national embarrassment.

It would have been a total disgrace if Nigeria qualified for the world cup. Super Eagles would have added to one of the existing problems of Nigerians.
Real national disgrace! It will soon come to the level that Nigerians would start supporting the opponent in every match because they always know that they are for no good. This has happened before, expect more unless NFF gets things right.

Ghana will do better in the world. They might qualify for the group stage with Portugal. You never can tell. Don't discredit them
Nigeria always performed with lacklustre during most games they do not and do find beneficial. If they had qualified,  this would probably be same way they would have played. Having to play a team like Portugal is an honor because it means they were full of potential to have been picked and this is in alignment with the fixture.  Africa in this world cup may not do so well unless Ghana shocks us with some great display. Better luck to the Ghana in team first, then to other African teams flying their country flag.
I've given up hope in Nigeria's national team, they always disappoint, and that is gross. It has been bad for almost 2 decades now, but it is now worse and must have dropped from the FIFA ranking once again. They thought sacking Gernot Rohr was the way forward, definitely, it's not with the situation of things. Also, the Ghana team will do nothing to be candid, they are there to catch a cruise.

What's interesting about teams from Africa is that they often surprise and become new favorites and this to be one that I'm waiting to see a team from Africa play and give a surprise, Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal have done that and actually this is fun because it's not always dominated by teams from Europe and America, but who will surprise us, we still have to wait. I'm just sure that one of the African teams will go to at least the quarterfinals but don't know who it will be

I'm also making predictions of the first two African countries to be knocked outta the group stage would be both Tunisia and Morocco.
I'm not to compare the African Cup of Nations with the FIFA World Cup, but then, with the help and influence of Samuel Eto, they had this drive to push forward, I believe they have a chance still to prove here but maybe not above the group stage or round of sixteen.

Too much of the Lamentations bout Sadio's injury, let's fully support Senegalese National Team. I've been long before Nigeria got knocked out by Ghana, I'm still going to back ans vouch for them to go farther than qualifications of second spot in the stage.

I think that Senegal is the strongest team from Africa here in the World Cup and they also showed a great performance in the African Cup sometime ago.I think that the other teams like Cameroon which were once the strongest team representing Africa in World Cups before needs to improve their performance as I doubt them to go that far here in this World Cup while Senegal has a real opportunity of passing at least the group stage and yes even if Mane is out of the team most probably they are still the strongest team from Africa during such competition.
So far, it's true that Senegal is the strongest team from Africa but the confirmation of Mane's absence at this World Cup will have a big impact on their appearance. This is very detrimental and unpleasant for the team, but my prediction is that they will still go through the group phase.

senegal's first game will be against the netherlands, let's be honest, senegal doesn't have many chances to beat the netherlands, it's true that they might have some luck to get a draw against the netherlands, but even to get a draw against the netherlands it won't be an easy task, I will bet on the victory of the netherlands. then senegal will play qatar, in my opinion senegal can beat qatar so they would get 3 points, but don't underestimate qatar, they are the home team and they won some games against good teams, so they have good chances of if they beat senegal, then senegal will play against ecuador which is also not weak and can beat senegal, i see senegal not getting good results in this group

It is certain that Sadio Mane will not be able to play in this tournament. This development was, of course, a big disappointment for Senegal and Mane. But they will go through the group phase. They are obviously the best African team at the World Cup. They will probably win the Africa Cup next year as well.
the Senegal team still has ismaila sarr, krepin diatta and boulaye as a starter, even though they are not as good as mane,, Senegal must be able to move on and not rely heavily on mane who is currently injured. in comparison to other African continent teams in the World Cup such as Ghana, Cameron or Morocco. Senegal is the most seeded and best team on the African continent.

in the world cup that: "best team on the african continent" doesn't count, that's useless in the world cup. teams from africa are well below teams from other continents and this will become more obvious in each world cup game. we'll see how far any team from africa can get, but i doubt we can get far and when i say far i'm talking about reaching the final of the world cup and being champions, going through the group stage will be very difficult for african teams, i am african but support argentina to win the world cup

Concerning the corrupt nature of African leaders. African leaders and Politicians are the major cause of weak sporting in Africa. They are playing politics even in the sport.

Mane is a good player but for Senegal to even play semi final I doubt it. The last world cup Nigeria which was the last hope of many Africans were knock out in the group stage. But we hope that reverse should be the case in this world cup. Senegal should play the final and brought home the cup. We have to know that mane has an injury.
