Ever since gernot Rohr was sacked as Nigeria coach the team has been in their worst form.  Rory was sacked,  and Augustine Egueavon was brought in and the super eagles could not qualify for AFCON tournament,  Nigeria is no where to be found in the world cup. Rohr was the best coach Nigeria has ever had, if he is still coach of Nigeria maybe  they would have been part of the world cup.

They continue to play bad with Portugal they lost to easily and portugal didnt want to go into full power. Nigeria needs to do better if they want to do something. They need to improve their play because this dosent lead to anything with how they were playing today

From what I can get from the friendly match between Nigeria and Portugal is for Portugal to check whether they can win against Ghana or not in the world cup. Although the friendly match came at the wrong time but somehow good to test their chance of qualifying at their group H table.

I don't think the friendly match will be that physical, both teams will take it easy on themselves. They know what's a stake for Portugal
Child's game is what best describes the game. I knew from the onset that the Super Eagles were not going to win. Portugal had a fun time. Could the Nigerian team had done better? Yes, if only they had learned from the losses of their previous matches. Nigeria lost to Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Algeria. No way they were going to beat Portugal. Well, I hope they learn from this loss.

Portugal vs Nigeria: International Friendly. Thu, 17 Nov 2022

On Thursday 17th November 2022, Nigeria is going to lock horns with Portugal in an international friendly match. Time is 7:45 PM WAT.

The Super Eagles will use the friendly as part of their preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set for next March
I can't risk losing any player to injuries especially as the Nigerian side are very physical. I think any international friendly ongoing during this one week is just very risky to nations that have qualifed for the world cup. If you want your players to familiarize with themselves then they should train and play games with in themselves that they'll be mindful of how they attack in other to not joapadize their chnacyas the world cup.

Anybody that fixed this friendly at this critical time has to be fired as it makes no sense. We should be expecting quality football and anything that'll obstruct that should be avoided like all the friendliest ongoing.
These players are fresh coming up from their different clubs, while the friendlies may seem unnecessary and like stress for the players, it is important for the coach to see how they can play as a team before the group stage of the world cup begins where every game counts.

Portugal will be without Ronaldo in the friendlies against Nigeria in Lisbon and I am sure the coach will not over stress his key players. Nigeria will win against Portugal.

I know I should probably comb through this thread, but out of curiosity, how many of you here have your country represented in Qatar in this World Cup? Really want to know the Cameroonians, Ghanaians, Moroccans, Tunisians, Senegalese here =)

I'm team Senegal, by the way, and no, it's not simply because of Mane. Also rooted for them in SKorea/Japan World Cup. Have to say they don't play as attractive football these days (I watched Afcon) compared to then, but World Cup is a different affair yeah?
[/quote

Going through the entire would be totally tiring and exhausting looking for what country they support but that would be the best way to identify them that's if they don't not even respond to this. I'm Nigerian from/by birth I've supported them from the African Cup of Nations they won some four years or that should be 2014 to be precise.

But since they was knocked outta the qualification stages by Ghana,I switched up real quick to support Sadio Mane and Senegalese National Team at the world Cup. They're good wining the African Cup of Nations and also do all they could to get to Qater.
I'm down for them, not saying they would win but no matter how far they go, I'mma support them till they've been knocked out.

This friendly would be an opportunity to assess the team's readiness in preparation for the coming African Cup Of Nations qualifiers set for March next year. I think Portugal is a good side to play against and should be a tough test for the team. This is a friendly game and much isn't expected and I believe the Super Eagles team will respect the fact that the Portugese national team are preparing for the world cup and the game will be played fair to avoid injuries.

Where would this friendly match hold, will Nigerians fly to Portugal or Portugal is flight to Nigeria, or will they go to Qatar?
This is three days to the World Cup and friendlies are still being played. I will believe that Nigeria players will have to be very soft on Portugal players to avoid any kind of injury. We should not expect a serious match because it is just a match to keep fit, especially for the Portuguese.

I really don't know how chanced I'll be, else I'd love to see how they cope with the Nigerian National side, could be that The Nigerian Portuguese Coach was the one responsible for fixing this game, since Portugal would face Senegalese National side at the or should I say Ghanaians ? I can't really recall lol, it would be a good test so they know how to face a them and possibly deal with that black energy and strength.

There won't be much energy in the game and it'll most likely be boring and end in a draw. Already news has it that players that were called up to the World cup are getting injuried so players are getting more cautious as they train.

Portugal plays Ghana in less than 10 days at the world cup. Ghana also has a friendly coming up tomorrow against Switzerland so they mightn't be 100% when they play Portugal at the world cup. Anybody that fixed this friendly at this critical time has to be fired as it makes no sense. We should be expecting quality football and anything that'll obstruct that should be avoided like all the friendliest ongoing.

But is this even necessary? Why not play a friendly match with a nation that isn't going to the world cup instead of playing it with a nation that has just one week to rest before playing at the World cup after the players in the squad played for their respective clubs just last week. Portugal has all to lose in this game and if I were the coach I won't play any of the players called up for the world cup. I will use my third choice players and give them the motivation that this is a chanct for them to prove themselves of been worthy players to start for their national side.

Like this is not a good plan, I have seen big name's and big deals crying over not making the FIFA World Cup even with few days already but Portugal seems to have them own motives though, like, why train with a side that is physically sound when you are a stone throw to the FIFA World Cup  ? Lol I really do hope that plan work's for them .

I really don't know how chanced I'll be, else I'd love to see how they cope with the Nigerian National side, could be that The Nigerian Portuguese Coach was the one responsible for fixing this game, since Portugal would face Senegalese National side at the or should I say Ghanaians ? Mane would have chosen to join La Liga instead of the club he joined. I don't even believe that club has ever had a Ballon d'Or winner, but if Mane had stayed in the Premier League and one of the Big Six had won both the Premier League and the Champions League, no one would have argued against declaring him the best player in the world because of his influence on all of the top Premier League teams he has played for. His kind won't be seen in the EPL again, in my opinion, and Liverpool lost a unique jewel. Because of the subpar treatment Mane was receiving at Liverpool, I was also glad for him when he departed. The majority of the work and goal-related contributions were made by him, yet others received all the credit and received significant pay. Bayern Munich was a wise pick for Mane; the club has a strong reputation and I think Mane made the right choice.
Have we not moved past this discussion about Mane being recognized? we are now close to the world cup and the most recent topic and discussion about Mane is that the Senegalese team have arrived Qatar already ahead of their first game against Netherlands but Sadio Mane has not yet arrived, that is he did not travel with them. Senegal may struggle without him against Netherlands, Can do without him playing against Qatar, But they may need him against Ecuador. I have high hope for the leading champions of africa.

Maisaje Yahanna Vera, 14 years girl won the 10km marathon race at Lagos in 29 minutes. There are good athletes in Nigeria but the leaders don't want the youth to progress (corruption is killing Nigeria sports). I collect the image from Facebook.

You posted in the wrong topic; this is an African football thread, not an athlete thread. Your post is inaccurate and does not reflect well on your nation. A nation cannot excel in every sport; for example, the Kenyans, Ethiopians, and Ugandans are perennial world champions in the marathon, and sucks at other sports but that does not imply that their government is corrupt. Although there are litters of elite grass-roots footballers in both Europe, Africa and America, but not all of them will live up to expectations. This young girl might not leave up to expectation up as expected in the next two to three years. sometimes injuries, switch of career, inability to maintain body weight plays a big role as time goes. sorry op for going a bit offltopic.

Seems Senegal are desperate to bring Sadio mane to the world cup, just like in the last AFCON tournament that he was used despite him having a concussion on the pitch.
Sadio Mane consents before Senegal takes any decision regarding him. for them to have included him in this world cup means he consented to it. The injury he sustained is as much a big blow to him as it is for the country and his absence can be disappointing to other Senegal players who have already hinged their motivation on him that they are going to the world cup with him. Even if he will not play, his presence will mean a lot for the team and other players in the squad.

It is really painful, I hope he can somehow recover and play some games quickly, even if not their opening game.
Sadio Mane is an important player to Senegal,  his absence may be something else to Senegal. Mane presence has always contributed great achievements to Senegal. Definitely mane absence can affect Senegal performance.  This is a game mane is supposed to play throughout the world cup game.

Portugal vs Nigeria: International Friendly. Thu, 17 Nov 2022

On Thursday 17th November 2022, Nigeria is going to lock horns with Portugal in an international friendly match. Time is 7:45 PM WAT.

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro has released his squad for the Portugal friendly with Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi and Paul Onuachu among those selected. Osimhen is among the players recalled by the Portuguese tactician after missing the last friendly matches owing to injury.

The Napoli forward is currently enjoying great form in Serie A. Another player making a return is Onuachu, who has been on a goal-scoring run for KRC Genk in the Belgian Pro League.

Everton winger Alex Iwobi has also been named in the squad for the friendly set for Thursday at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.  Ahmed Musa is among the players who did not make the cut for the build-up.

Others are Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi. Peseiro, however, recalled Tyronne Ebuehi, Oghenekaro Etebo while Joe Aribo of Southampton is also in the squad.

The Super Eagles will use the friendly as part of their preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set for next March.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers: Maduka Okoye (Watford FC, England); Francis Uzoho (AC Omonia, Cyprus); Adebayo Adeleye (Hapoel Jerusalem, Israel).

Defenders: William Ekong (Watford FC, England); Olisa Ndah (Orlando Pirates, South Africa); Calvin Bassey (Ajax FC, The Netherlands); Kevin Akpoguma (TSG Hoffenheim, Germany); Chidiebube Duru (Rivers United); Tyronne Ebuehi (Empoli FC, Italy); Bruno Onyemaechi (Boavista FC, Portugal); Bright Osayi Samuel (Fenerbahce FC, Turkey).

Midfielders: Joseph Ayodele-Aribo (Southampton FC, England); Alex Iwobi (Everton FC, England); Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England); Frank Onyeka (Brentford FC, England); Oghenekaro Etebo (Aris Thessaloniki, Greece).

Forwards: Moses Simon (Nantes FC, France); Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal FC, Spain); Ademola Lookman (Atalanta FC, Italy); Terem Moffi (Lorient FC, France); Paul Onuachu (Genk FC, Belgium); Victor Osimhen (SSC Napoli, Italy); Emmanuel Dennis (Nottingham Forest, England).

My prediction for the match is that is going to end goalless or in a draw.

So I just saw the Ballon d'or get awarded to Karim Benzema and the best they can do is give the Socrates Award to Sadio Mane upon all he achieved last year. I'm not disrespecting Benzema but Mane is worth than some charity award. When will they give African players their credit. Mane last season won  the Africa biggest tournament that he contributed massively to his country lifting the AFCON cup also as his side defeated Chelsea twice in the cup competition they participated in and won two cups trophies also his side made it to the final of the champions league and completed for the title of the premier league tournament until the last day that they almost won it if not for Manchester city brilliance.

I can also remembered the season Mo Salah played all the football he can and yet he was rubbed of the same title, when will African players be rewarded with award they deserved. Why create some useless award just to justify what is been done to African players. African isn't some charity projects and we deserve better than how we're been treated. Anyways congratulations the Benzene.
Mane may not be recognised in the way he should,  but the truth is that we the fans knows who Mane is, how he has contributed to every team he has been. We all know Mane talent is raw and good. Even if what he was award is not the best for him. I still congratulate him for the award, it is not easy.

And what would that also do the the confidence of the others, or the guy sacrificed to make room for Mane? This has to get some resistance from Bayern, for sure. Klopp would be calling up Senegal now if this happened at Liverpool...

It was Mane's decision to go, he's 30 and this could be his final World Cup with Senegal, I'm not sure the injury is as serious as we thought given that there is still a week until the World Cup for him to at least recover since he was flown to Africa for herbal treatments, we know how far Senegal is willing to go to ensure the country captain goes to the World Cup. Because of the timing of the World Cup, he may miss the first game. I recall a similar scenario with Drogba, who was sidelined for four weeks due to a hamstring injury. He went to Africa for herbal treatment and recovered just in time for our Champions League game. No players were sacrificed, his slot was untouchable. Grin

As I said, it will always be Mane's decision to say yes, he's a hungry player. But clubs and managers need to think of player welfare at the end of the day, that's what they're paid for, and that's what players will later on learn about their managers to appreciate them. Not someone who wants to take advantage of your hunger and squeeze you dry, but someone who's willing to be hated in the moment, to be appreciated down the line. Mane and Salah have frequently got annoyed at Klopp withdrawing them from games but they know later on it was for their protection.

Anyway, moot point, if he plays, he plays, but I really hope he doesn't aggravate the injury, and plays well.

Herbal treatments and witch doctors, well, I hope they know what they're doing ha.

I be placing full blames on Senegalese National Team honestly, they should have informed Bayern Munich of how Sadio Mane is vital for em to give him lesser game time at the last few games to avoid unnecessary injuries. Same goes to Bayern Munich, he should have been rested, why over use him ?
He has a contract with them (Bayern Munich), how exactly did you expect Senegal to convince Bayern Munich to rest Sadio Mané, especially during the time they were trying to tighten on the top spot from Stubborn Union Berlin?

It's unfortunate that he got injured during the critical time, but I don't think you can change one's fate?

Look at Marco Reus of Germany. Dude has got to be one of the unluckiest players alive.

Currently Speechless I understand what you're tryna say better, I was just a bit pained seeing he'll miss the FIFA World Cup already at the corner. It's fine, but it's also good to see they finally got over Union Berlin. Berlin are quite desperate this year, they are very consistent ion see em slacking anytime soon. Nah! I can't change.

Reminiscing Marco Reus right now how he missed the chance win the FIFA World Cup with Germany at Brazil, he was in a very big firm but the injury hit hard and same thing here again. Very disturbing, if I was him I'd barely eat for day's.
If Sadio Mane already got treatment traditionally then I'm sure if him flying with his squad to Qater.
