Top ranking for men in Fifa, Nigeria is no where found in the top 20 teams.
Senegal took them position, and they stand as the best African team in the world.
Representing a national team is good, but how facilitated are they ? I will choose to focus on club performance any way
Senegal first (rank 18) then Maroc second (rank 22) then Tunisia third in Africa (rank 30 in the world).. Nigeria is 4th (rank 31) but it wasn't the only that dropped but also Egypt took a hit although they have Salah among other good players.
This ranking is based on points but there is many countries before Nigeria that I believe they could win it in face to face games. Anyway, for the African teams that qualified for the World Cup, we will see how far they will be there.

I won't entirely agree with this statement though, we see every year that the government even make promises and tip these players even before games and sometimes at every stage of the competition they get to, the government give them bonuses and still yet they perform poorly. These players are payed huge amounts to play for their country. I feel the problem is poor management and discipline. This players are not focused on the when they play for their national side.

The government don't give but comes to promise and we all know how this stories usually ends. How many past footballers do you see living well in the country that aren't still hustling out their life. Assuming the government did take care of them, will they still be hustling in their old ages. How many players have you living comfortably that invested their time heavily in the national team in the country.

It's the club football that sponsor this players lifestyle so naturally they'll be invested in club football. Injuries gotten from international football are taken care off my clubs etc. It isn't always about the bonuses but if the system was favourable to the players then we'll see more passion from them knowing they'll be fully taken care of.
That's because the players sign long term contracts with their clubs, playing at national level is not a contract. Players are invited to represent the nation and play for short time usually for the duration of the competition. Your position in the team is not even fixed you might not be invited in the next  year but when you sign with a club its on contract level and the club covers all expenses and injuries incurred. That is why the club finances everything about you.

Do you think a soldier will go defending his country without the right weapon. Any soldier that does that is putting himself in danger and most likely we get killed. Now relate it to football, you want a player to give a country that does not have the right facilities to take care of him in case of injury and recovering, you want that player to give his 100% playing for the country?
I see your point. Nigeria do not have the right facilities to take care of an injured player and ensure he get full recovery and rehabilitation. It is therefore logically expected to get these attitudes from the players. I hope this changes soon.

Moving away from this discussion, the FIFA ranking is out and Nigeria’s World Ranking takes a Hit despite wins in AFCON Qualifiers and nations like Sierra Leone and Sao Tome etc also dropped on their ranking.

I don't understand how the FIFA ranking works but I agree with their latest ranking of Nigeria. I mean, the Nigeria team and their management has not really been the best lately. From changing coaches to corruption to government interference and what have you. They just have a lot of problems right now and it is affecting their performance at the world stage.

It is true that playing for the national team is something of great honor and it is a really different feeling to play for your own country.

We just have to realise that most of the players playing for the national team in Africa these days are just playing so that they can get some international recognition by clubs that are scouting for players in Africa since Africa has the the best rising stars of recent.

I agree with every comment quoted, but playing for the national team is a great pride and honor. Nationalism sometimes succeeds financial rewards and our past players played for the pride and love for Nigeria. Yes the government is not living up to the expectation of the players but if they play for the Super Eagles only because of financial reward then they would not be productive. We have seen players single-handedly sponsoring their national teams. George Weah, Samuel Eto and some other rich players have paid bills of their respective national teams. Every one of us in our respective fields are also sacrificing of our country everyday. Hence these players must set aside the corruption ridden government and focus on their heartbroken fans.

It is true that playing for the national team is something of great honor and it is a really different feeling to play for your own country.

But, the problem is most players nowadays think about how they are going to impress better clubs and make a good transfer with a better wage.

So, they are not very keen on playing for the national team. For a lot of players, it is just getting some play time under their belt and nothing to be too excited about.

It isn't the first time, 2006 FIFA world cup in Germany was the first time Nigeria failed to qualify for the world cup and guess who was the coach then, just sacked coach Augustine Eguavoen. This guy has a curse of not qualifying us to the world cup but in other news it is a good thing we didn't qualify because what would be the outcome, it's still disappointment as all the other world cup we have played there's nothing to show for it.

When it comes to the AFCON as well, we're no where to be found as the last time we won it was 2013 and that's 9 year's ago. Maybe having this time off will give us enough time to regroup and come back as a better squad and this new coach is giving me the feeling he might just be the right man for the Job.

Being the Giant of Africa,  literally Nigeria is not getting it right when it comes to footballing both in Africa and across the world.
Which I think the problem is in the management system the ( Nigerian Football federation NFF) partiality , bribery and curruption in selecting quality and talented players needed to do the job and coupled with the way in which the government treats the players during and after their football careers and compare them with how they treat players in other countries, which I think it's the most discouraging point for the players not giving their best when it comes to playing for the country.
Because you might have good coach but not having the right players willing to give their best in order get positive results due to above reasons.
Just look at a lot of wasted talented players across the country. Nigeria in summary is a place where dreams of talented players are buried.

Do you mean the domestic league? If you are referring to the financial conditions of domestic players in the NPFL, I would agree with you. It’s a shame that they are not well paid and are even owed the little salary they earn sometimes they don’t receive their salaries for months. The domestic players are underrated, they are not even included or deem fit enough to play for the national team.

That means am not the only one who has discovered that the Super Eagles of Nigeria no longer show a winning mentality on the pitch of play. There is nothing they want to play for again. No pride to defend Nigeria's football integrity. Nothing whatsoever. They already think themselves millionaires doing the country a favour by playing. The days of Christian Chukwu, Rasheed Yekini, Daniel Omokachi, Finidi and the rest of the Atlanta 96 squad were the glory days of Nigeria football. Big footballing countries panicked to even play the Super Eagles but that is not so any more now. It does not matter the coach they bring in, the boys continue to feel too big bringing out their legs. It is the mentality of the players and that has to change. I like how Samuel Eto is sounding the warning to members of the Cameroon team that they should sit up or leave the team. And I think Nigeria should do the same.

I clearly remember the good old days. When we were excited to watch our boys play. But not anymore. Today, I don't even know why they play anymore. It's almost as if there's no patriotism or love for one's country. Maybe it's because the money has replaced patriotism. Yes, the Super Eagles used to one of the most feared teams in Africa. Little wonder why I wasn't excited when they won Sao Tome10 - 0. That game was a work over. They weren't a challenge whatsoever. I would have celebrated if it was the Black Stars they played against and scored 2 goals to nil. Who remembers the days of Obafemi Martins, Osaze Odewinge, Joseph Yobo etc
We are all aware about the recent change in super eagles performance, the super eagles team are not co-operative, the team is suffering mis-management. For the first time in history, the super eagles failed to qualify for the world cup, that's a big blow to Nigeria and Africa, cause they are known as one of the best team in Africa, and I don't think such performance is expected of them. Perhaps, I suggest they should give the new manager a little time to handle the team, since he took over from the former coach, the team have been performing excellently. Though we all know there game against Sao tome was a work over, but they performed so well in the game and they were so consistent with their play, for the first time in a long time the super eagles performed excellently.
Obviously there have being some positive changes to this super eagles side recently, from their attitude at training grounds to game days, alot have changed. The new manager made clear what he doesn't like and doesn't want to say in hos camp and so far the players are adhering to them and are showing discipline which has been lacking before. I think the team is improving and doing better now. We just have to keep the new manager time to fix things up.

It is so bad to see professional players who are supposed to be happy and playing for their nation with pride because that should be were your loyalty lies.

Why will you loyal lies in a country that hardly pays you for playing them time or better bonus, don't forget football are this guys job and just as you have bills to pay they also have more bills and expensive lifestyle to live just because of the fame they have. They have families depending on them as well. Why will you put in your energy and safety for a country that can't take up your bills if you have injury etc. There's money but they put priority on funding their selfish interest instead of those deserving the financing.

Also don't forget the clubs are the owners of this players and to keep there place on the team, they have to be fit. There's isn't much benefits playing for Nigeria and that's why many players are choosing their nation of birth instead of their father land. Corrupt has made football no longer entertaining as players aren't motivated to want to play for the nation. Blame the government don't blame a man looking for his daily bread.

Their matches do not give me any joy, instead it causes me stress and my blood pressure to rise.
When it comes to watching the Super Eagles games, I believe a high percentage of the fans are tired of given their time and devotion to games that turn out to bring heart break and anger to them. It always ends in premium tears watching the super eagles games.

When you are invested to represent your nation and you feel too big and already made so much that you feel you are doing ypur nation a favour, that mentality alone is enough distraction. Back in the 1990s players were so happy and played with pride. I hope the new coach will can change this situation in the team.

The Super eagle's did well when they won the African Cup of Nations some years ago, if I am not wrong it will be 2014.
They won the final when Solomon MBA gave th the winning goal, as at the John Mikel obi was still a captain of Nigeria.
They did well aside the 1996 Atalanta which they won against Brazil.

1xBit recovered their reputation
Me too i stopped being a football fan since money became the major aspect of football, profesional players became well payed that they lost their passion for football, not to mention that some mediocre player are worth million of dollars i find it really surprising how a defender like maguire is worth more than a defender like maldini the only reason i am still following football is because of gambling.

It is normal that the salary of a star player will be higher. Because of their huge demand, every team wants to get star players in the team. However, this is not always the case. Occasionally we see high wages for less talented players. I would say it is for the team coach. He spends a lot of money to get the player of his choice in the team. And sometimes these players do not perform as well as expected.
