Many altcoins are there in fact thousands of them but without you checking and doing some monitoring you may not be able to buy the good one. Any coin can be good to buy but doing investigations will help more.
Not every altcoin should we take the risk to buy. Some of them are already on the verge of disappearance and buying them might tie down your fund and you would never be able to recover it again. It once happened to me. The coin was delisted and was not trading on any other exchange because others have also delisted the coin. So, I was stuck and till date, I still have the coin on the exchnage I wanted trading it. Anyway, it's gone.

I've been reading through this forums for the past few weeks and all I see is "this coin is dead" or "everything is a shit coin". Is there any alt coin with potential to invest in or is it only bitcoin?
Asking for suggestion about altcoins from the people in the forums isn't going to be the best place. I mean yeah, they will suggest you coins, but make sure you have a good analysis of it. Like look at all those newbie users that are shilling for their coins. And, then there are other users who has no clue why they are suggesting that coin but only because they invested in it.You keep on hearing "this coins is dead" because most of those altcoins are shit coins. But no, not every coin is a shit coin. There are good altcoins out there.
Not all altcoins are dead and I would say this is altcoins period as many coins have been doing wonderful out there. If you want to buy a coin kindly do deligient findings regarding team and project before buying to afford getting scam from greedy developers. Altcoins still pays and I am a witness.
Altcoins are worth buying and profitable only if you do your research, you can make double of you investment with time but also your investment can also sink to dust if you are not careful, so trade wisely with altcoins ,the right altcoin is profitable.
Now if the project name includes DeFi then the project will be of interest to the crypto community. This is similar to 2017, when almost any ICO brought profit to investors. Or 2018-2019 and the IEO that replaced the ICO.

Any altcoin among the top 10 is worth to be a long term investment. It's up to your personal liking to decide which it suits your taste in cryptocurrency (aim, inovation, technology behind it,...).

Depending on the kind of trade you are looking at. If for long term then buy the top coins. For short term some coins are currently doing amazing which are the Defi related coins. A token that I also look at that is currently under valued is Kardiachain (KAI)
I think at first you should invest in Bitcoin and then you can think about other altcoins to invest.There ar few project that are doing pretty good in 2020.And The wonder of 2020 is DeFi project specifically Compound coin.You can check their growth in 2020 fron this article-

While the price still at a low price, you can research for more to find if the verge is worth or not to invest. The altcoin season will come soon, and no matter how long we need to wait, the altcoin will take the position to increase, and there will be many altcoins that will increase. The coin at the top 20 will have the chance to increase, but we have many other altcoins out from that position that can grow too.
There are a lot of interesting altcoins in which you can invest and get profit, for example, top altcoins like ethereum, binance coin, stellar, xrp and of course if you want to invest in new altcoins, it is best to invest in those that will conduct IEO on binance.
I agree with you. The altcoins from IEO have never let me down because these coins are very easy to raise prices when there is good news and will definitely help you to earn high profits. In addition, the large support from Binance is the main reason why these altcoins always keep their prices high and you can consider investing if you feel good. Anyway, the risk is always present in any project and it can still cost you money if you choose the wrong time.

Block's reward halving does not mean the price will go up or at least it wont happen instantly. Take a look on recent Bitcoin halving - the price is still around $9k or I would say it has decreased a bit. Cryptocurrency being on bottom price also is not an indicator that it will be pumped soon or the price will go up. Deep research needed to find out why the price is at this level right now. Who know, maybe the whole project is dead now or past updates influenced the price so much.

There are over 2,000 altcoins in the market, and to be fair, a bunch of them are absolutely useless. However, it would be overly dismissive to suggest that none of them will amount to anything. The problem is that it’s difficult to predict how successful they might be. If Bitcoin will solve its technical issues, will there be any room for other coins to compete in terms of a replacement for fiat currency.

I suggest you learn more about altcoins, so you are not provoked by various issues. Most of the altcoins are dead, but hundreds of them survive well and are worthy of investment choices.

I can say there are still some altcoins that are worth it to invest, like investing in top-performing altcoins in the market. But the truth is, there are more sh*tcoins in the market, and every day we can see new altcoins that are occurring from nowhere. I also agree with others here that, Defi projects became popular today and most of them now have potential in the future. They are also worth it to invest but it's still better to make a good research about the project before investing. I also found some projects that worth it to invest like Elrond (ERD) and Chromia (CHR). Just to clarify, I'm not promoting this project. But before you invest in this make sure you made your own research about them.
