The altcoins definitely have a future. But it is far from all altcoins. In my opinion, the future is in 10% of altcoins, and all the rest is a complete shit project, which in time will simply be disappeared. However, in the solid 10% altcoins you can get a massive ROI in coming few years.

I do not think so because altcoin value increased so much in the past. Instead, I think the next trending can become the trending of blockchain to apply in the system of any field. The security is always the problem of any system if want to against attack from the hacker. Every year, a lot of companies spent much money to keep safe their data. But blockchain can save that amount with the system has enough users to guaranteed the hacker cannot have the same capacity to create an attack.

There's a great future in altcoins , maybe you just picked a wrong coin that's why you don't get enough profit , basically it really depends on what coin you are holding right now so next time invest in some altcoin with a good potential , do some research to determine which coin has a great potential .
