for holding up to 3 years i think you are free to choose many potential coin, not only buying altcoin you have many option it might be hold bitcoin or ethereum and invest in very good and potential ICO will give you more return. just trust nobody when investing some money in cryptocurrency, make your decision.
too many options since most altcoins are good for long term investment. but to name a few, i guess eth and litecoin is good for long term investment.
Since i have earned in ethereum last January and that's even over a short period of time, i have realized that i can get a better profit if i'll keep it long term. It's just timely that i sold it a day before it hits 1.2K$ and i have bought back again when it falls down to 300$. I believe in ethereum's future that's why i am keeping it now for a long term.
