Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future?

In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term.  Grin

if you call Dogecoin price going down in long term surviving then yeah all the altcoins out there are surviving. i remember Dogecoin price was 300-400 satoshi when i started using cryptocurrencies and now it is 20ish

the only coin that will ever survive is bitcoin and after that coins that have been surviving so far (at least 2 years) will continue surviving such as litecoin and monero and even grow bigger.

Altcoins are not viable because they cannot reproduce that which gives Bitcoin an overwhelming competitive edge: its market cap. It is unethical to create an altcoin with the purpose of making money off of it for this reason. They should not be taken seriously. The way to defeat them is to keep demanding of the altcoin promoters that they spell out why their altcoin makes sense as an investment. The more that this demand is made, the worse altcoins will look.

This point needs to be made in a variety of ways, again and again.

Also I must add this Altcoin Investment Psychology - ...investors look at a new altcoin...If I decide to buy some, I would have to sell some of my bitcoins for it...
Not to mention that more then 90% of all altcoins that were created are a joke.

I think a lot of altcoins will survive.
What is future to you? 1 year, 5 years 20 years? and what are you calling survive?

I think all coins who are now over a 1 million marketcap will be also popular in the future, some more some less.

XMR. If I had to go into a coma for 5 years and I'd expect it to be in the top 5 when I woke up. LTC and DOGE? LTC has no technical improvements over XMR and DOGE is even more of a copycat. While they might survive, I don't see them doing so any better than Feathercoin in the long run.

You do have a point there mate. While Litecoin lacks development and innovation, it has still managed to become a stable altcoin being the silver to Bitcoin's gold. In my own opinion, altcoins that may be prone to survive are those who can prove to give constant development, innovation, and support from its community. At least Litecoin and Dogecoin, although not providing innovation, are stable with a strong support from their communities as well as secure from a great amount of hashrate underlying within their networks.

As for XMR, I can see it survive too as it provides a great level of anonymity to transact in contrast from Bitcoin. The more the darknet markets adopt XMR, the more its price will rise, as well as interest from people to help support it for the long term. Just sharing my thoughts.  Grin

i think only the strongest will survive, those are for me, monero zcash/zcoin and etheruem, litecoin perhaps will survive because the community is emotionally attached to it, and the dev is very operative
Litecoin I think it could survive until long in my opinion. Presently, Litecoin ranked among the top five most popular in the world cryptocurrency. Litecoin have the distance between blocks is shorter that only 2.5 minutes (Bitcoin: 10 minutes), which means the level of ability of the transaction runs faster than Bitcoin. I think it would make Litecoin could survive because then people could be interested in Litecoin and continues to grow.

my prediction are MOnero, Dash, Eth will be survive for a long time, eventhough ETH trust is going down, but the transaction volume of this coin is still high and I believe Monero can become a good alt coin, the transaction volume is rising from 2016 and it will be another shining alt coin that will survive for a long time

Dogecoin, ETH and Monero will survive, the question is Litecoin. Dogecoin is very popular among Dice sites, plus Doge have fast transaction time - you can send/receive in minutes. ETH is just big player, sale/buy quick profit via many users, in fact it is now very popular altcoin. Monero have great privacy option, many altcoins users like this. Litecoin is popular among just devoted users, therefore Litecoin future is not clear, it can survive if there will be new Litecoin users.

In my opinion apart from Litecoin and Doge coin , some more coins are their whose future is also good like, ETH, ETC, MONERO, ICN, WAVES this are all some coins which i know who are working on their project and their long term plan are very good and like bitcoin even if invested for long term you can get a very good return of investment.

True, but if there is a coin that has no technical improvements over BTC that can survive, then that must be LTC, since it has that "original altcoin" and "silver of crypto" aura. Also, cobble (the main dev) has said on twitter that they are pro-segwit and will start aiming for activation of segwit in LTC pretty soon, so this shows they are going to keep developing the coin for the future.

in my opinion i will choose ethereum, zcash, and litecoin

zcash is already half dead and ethereum is a zombie being pumped. the only remaining option is litecoin and not because it is a good coin but only because it belongs to Chinese and they love it.
and you are forgetting about coins with something to offer like monero and iconomi

it depends on what you call surviving!
being around and being traded, or mostly pump and dumped is not really surviving in my opinion but if that is the definition you have in mind then there will be lots of the altcoins that can survive.

but as a real project with something to offer and being developed, and hopefully contribute to the cryptocurrency world at least or at best become a currency; that is a whole different story and in my opinion none of the altcoins fall under this strict definition. but you can call some of them like litecoin and monero as coins that have many of these aspects and can survive.
