Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future?

In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term.  Grin
according to me, the only altcoins that might be able to survive in the future are the coins which are really popular and have a really strong developement team. I believe that ETHEREUM, CIVIC, LITECOIN, MONERO and SIACOIN are the coins which will surely survive as all of these coins have a very unique and interesting Concept. Ethereum for its smart contracts, civic for low cost identity verification, siacoin for decentralized clouds storage, litecoin for its fast transactions and monero for its completely anonymous nature.
All of these coins night help you good amounts of returns in future.

I also agree with you. but I think SGG might also survive. but all possibilities can still happen, so we'll see which altcoin that can survive longer, at least let we'll see until 2018 next year.

Am kind of new in the cryptoscene. But if there was a  new alt-coin that had its own blockchain, not one based on Ethereum or Bitcoin, but that learned from all the weak points and offered services, smart contracts, many  applications,  would you think that such an alt coin would survive?  I think if built well, it could be.  But I also agree that most alt coins are just fleeting ghosts with nothing behind it in terms of service or value.

I'm looking at coins with a clearly mapped out development path and a strong team to implement that vision. Many alt coins out there have such grandiose visions it can be difficult to even decipher what they are trying to do. Skeddadle, the on-demand long distance transit network is going to be releasing a coin called Kudos on Nov 1 that will first be implemented within the Skeddadle platform. More generally, the token will be used to rate and reward workers and consumers in service based industries and can easily be implemented on top of existing payment platforms. The teams clear path forward is what entices me most about this ICO and i think this is something to weigh heavily when evaluating an ICO.

I think old coins who had already survived for a long time would still be present in the future. As well as some altcoins that are useful to investors such as waves and eth which is important when using their platform for trading. As you can see a lot of projects here either use waves wallet or eth wallet for their payment.

Yeah, I also think that old coins that survived a lot of years will still be present in the future. Ardr is also a hot candidate for a nice coin in the future. Its a good longterm invest and its in a good buyrange!

I'm really curious to see what altcoins develop into a serious competitor for bitcoin. Does anyone think any current coin offerings will ever overtake BTC? I've been getting back into the crypto field researching but I don't know the backgrounds or functions of most coins still. I bought some DeepOnion recently at the advice of a friend but I'd like to hear over people's thoughts.

In my opinion Eth, Litecoin, Monero will survive in the future. They are good for holding. I think that they are promising and strong. Also Waves, and ripple can be good in the future but I am not sure that much about them. Maybe waves can be good but for ripple it's lower possibility.

Ripple will survive in my opinion. Not saying that it will flourish, but it has too much backing to die altogether. It might lose a lot of value, due to how it's being managed and the supply, but I don't think it'll completely fold like a lot of other coins.

Agree about ETH, LTC and XMR, I don't see any of them going anywhere.

Waves I'm not sure about yet, but I do think there's a lot of potential there. Some coins will emerge to challenge those big boys and will become a mainstay in their own right, it's just not clear which ones yet.

I think a lot of altcoins will survive.
What is future to you? 1 year, 5 years 20 years? and what are you calling survive?

I think all coins who are now over a 1 million marketcap will be also popular in the future, some more some less.

I agree. It it is a matter of degrees when it comes to altcoins.

Blockchain technology will disrupt, revolutionize, compel re-design, etc. so many industries (look at the financial industry i.e. Jamie Dimon - JP Morgan Chase) and how society functions as a whole. Every time I turn around it seems as if there are new and innovative applications for blockchain technology (https://twitter.com/digi_coins/status/901605172274659331). As bitcoin becomes more popular and relevant, so will altcoins.

I have know about bitcoin for a while, but have been more curious about this technology since buying my first bitcoin in April, and became obsessed with altcoins soon after.

Regardless of what the altcoin haters might say, I'm cheering for altcoins (and digital currency in general https://cointelegraph.com/news/blockchain-providing-bridge-for-unbanked-lifting-global-economy), their relevance, and popularity.

What kind of altcoins are folks hodling? Wink

If you are talking about the altcoins introduced recently, I feel that DeepOnion has a very bright future. Go check out the DeepOnion forum and community and you will understand why I am stating this.

I think there will be many coins which have the potential to survive. Big ones have already in this thread but there is also relatively small ones which have a big potential for the future. One of them is GOLEM. If the team keep working and can achieve their goal we can see this coin cuz we will need supercomputers. That's sure. Maybe SONM or XEL too. Another important project could be Syscoin or SAFEX which are competitors with each other. We can say decentralized e-bay for both of them. If they can create their markets, they will probably survive in the future.
But of course thats not all

Litecoin and Dogecoin has no further development plans or team .I don't think they can go fast.
My recommendation is Ethereum. Its smart contract is more and more popular.
Ethereum does have a chance on surviving, didn't you see the article that the news was uploading about the developer being with Putin.

Ethereum, monero, litecoin, ripple I think they are a strong altcoin group. For some reason I'm sure if they will still be alive in the future. And I am sure especially towards eth whose price will fly in time
do not forget DASH. where currently DASH has the second highest price in cryptocurrency after bitcoin. I think we should not underestimate the DASH. I'm sure DASH has a long life span just like etherum and litecoin. I'm also sure DASH prices will rise high in the future. lets see and wait
What? Before write this post, do you have check the price of Dash on the market?
Top 2 cryptocurrency has high value behind Bitcoin is Bitcoin Cash.
Now, Bitcoin Cash has value ~ $423.74 while Dash is $355.74 Wink
