It is unlikely that anyone can accurately predict the future of BTC and altcoins in the modern crypto market. After all, there are many factors affecting the crypto market. Personally, I prefer to invest about 60% of my money in the purchase of BTC. And 40% of the money I invest in reliable altcoins, which have already proven themselves in the market.
Altcoins has its function as a coin choice after Bitcoin.

Personally, I prefer the bulk of the money to invest in the purchase of reliable altcoins with good development potential in the future. After all, during the period of growth of the market, they value much more actively, therefore they bring more income. Although Bitcoin also assumes stability, therefore I invest about 30% of my money in the purchase of BTC.
For me, Bitcoin sounds more profitable. First of all, it's original cryptocurrency, and there are only 21 000 000 coins, so in any case, the price will grow in the future. There are promising altcoins as well, but their price always depends on Bitcoin.

No one can accurately predict the future. Therefore, I think that the best thing is to distribute your investments and possible risks. Therefore, I regularly invest 50% of my money in the purchase of Bitcoin, and distribute the rest of the money to reliable altcoins with good development potential.
You have provided a suitable idea according to the current market conditions. That's the way I think. All that remains is to wait and see.

That is unlikely. Bitcoin will always be a more promising investment, so I don’t think that alts can outrun it!

There are times that altcoins are more profitable than bitcoin and there are also times that bitcoin is more profitable than altcoins, so as of now if you think that altcoin is more profitable then invest with altcoins, no one will stop you from investing. If that is your thought then that is good because you have your own opinion and that is what you notice in the market as of now which is true, because bitcoin is stable as of now. 
So, I just think that bitcoin time has come. It's so old coin, which lost his past power and slowly dies and going low. 2019 year would be good for altcoins, so, you should to invest now.
What's the connection of bitcoin if its old enough? bitcoin will never get old and won't die that easily. Where did you get that news that bitcoin is slowly dying? if its slowly dying then it isn't sitting on $6k level today.This only means that you are an altcoiner holder or majority of your coins are alts. Someone who holds bitcoin with his portfolio will defend bitcoin and while altcoin holders will tell everything bad that has no basis about bitcoin.

It seems to me that either bitcoin or altcoin is profitable its depends on the time which is currently have a good price at the moment. Bitcoin is proved and tested in many years though it has many down fall this year still hoping for its recovery. Altcoin is also one of promising in the crypto world and I can not deny we can earn a big profit in it. If you can not decide right now which two just analyzed which one is good for you.
I advise you to buy bitcoin and keep 50 % of the Deposit and the rest to distribute between altcoins that you like. Bitcoin in any case will grow, and in case of drawdown of any altcoin you will be able to buy it.

that's precisely because no one you can not exactly answer this question,there is such a thing as risk diversification. personally, I have in my portfolio and bitcoins -50% and altcoins-50%.

Some new alts like ripple are very promisiing and if you have some free money you should invest in it and see how it goes in the future

Difference between bitcoin and altcoin, Bitcoin is father of cryptocurrency on others altcoin came on market depend on Bitcoin. If you search for difference it will foolish question. Bitcoin is main coin and others just creating based on blockchain system. If bitcoin up, then altcoin up. If bitcoin down altcoin down. Fully related altcoin and bitcoin.
