Aeon was built to be a mobile platform yet for 4.5 years there has been no public development of mobile core code by smooth that I can find. IF you want Aeon to take off, you need this. One community member built (and released) aeon core for android but it seems nobody is using it. Is it because smooth has not given this a noted thumbs up from the official Aeon project?

Why does it need to be developed or approved by smooth? Anyone can develop anything and run anything. I didn't try that Android Aeon node because I don't own any Android device. Also, it doesn't make sense to run a full node on a phone if there's no wallet software on it (but the situation might change with the emergence of MonerujoAE).

The development in the mobile area is slow/lacking simply because there is no one capable of it and willing to push hard for it. You're welcome to work on it, if you can.

Has anyone seen ETN's nethash since they allowed asics? 3 gigahash of nethash. Literally, every asic is on that network. Good for them right? What are all those mobile miners doing? Nothing really but providing additional network security with another node.

Whatever happened to Aeon's (or Monero's) mobile development? It seems as if a long time ago, the devs were unable to fully build a functioning mobile version of the core implementation. I remember smooth saying something along the lines of there were scaling issues with the gui on phones where it didn't fit correctly or something. Were they ever able to get a node running?

How can we as a community build Aeon for mobile? Not just a web wallet on a phone, but a true use of aeon on a phone like it is used on a desktop or laptop. That is the true question.

@coloseum. However, if another Asic manufacturer creates Asics for Monero and our new proof of work algorithm, would we need to change it again? Is this the downright, best longterm solution to the problem? I reckon, certainly no.

@kkkwww. Those short days are gone. The Aeon community have made the decision to follow Monero and change to another algorithm to kill Asics. Which might be a mistake. We would have the most hashrate if we stayed with the old algorithm and let game theory do its work.
Being ASIC resistant is always good, in my opinion.
Personally, I don't like ASICs due to their dominant hashrates, which might lead to unexpected manipulation.

It would also be preferable to be as close to Monero's codebase as possible [...] I reckon we might have a better project.

How could it possibly be better if it is almost identical?

We also have the Monero developers working for Aeon because smooth and stoffu can copy the code that Aeon needs anytime while doing improvements of their own.

Yes. It's true that smooth and stoffu are incredibly smart and know what they're doing, but if they bring some cool new feature to AEON, those changes could just as easily be made to Monero too.

Maintenance update (Windows only)

Sophia (point release 8)

This maintenance release fixes a problem that existed in 0.12.7.0 only when using the wallet on Windows, and in addition contains a cosmetic improvement to logging and some documentation cleanup. If you are not running Windows there is no need to update from 0.12.7.0.

These are our advantages while maintaining our codebase close to Monero. We have a smaller blockchain for an easier initial sync. We also have the Monero developers working for Aeon because smooth and stoffu can copy the code that Aeon needs anytime while doing improvements of their own.

But I do not know how advantageous cryptonight light is anymore, with the 1mb scratchpad instead of 2?

les pristy thinks that a smaller blockchain is a decisive advantage.
waiting for his new achievements.

I am beginning to see the light in Aeon. It might be more appropriate for our 2 - 3 man development team to let the Monero developers do the hard work and copy some of the parts of Monero that we can use.

It would also be preferable to be as close to Monero's codebase as possible while maintaining a smaller blockchain data for easier initial syncing.

I reckon we might have a better project. However, our problem would be the lack of network effects.

thinking if it were possible to take and just answer that, we would become very rich.
im was always taught that a copy is almost always worse than the original. so it is necessary to add something that was not previously to be higher or at least trying. it seems to me that this project has everything to enter the top but not in the red market which is falling.

but sometimes the copy would emerge as the better one, an improved one. this coin has proven something in the market already. they are still here for so long already, cemented their position in the market. though the volume is not that high but at least the price is much better than the new ones.

Important maintenance update

Sophia (point release 7)

Dozens of upstream performance, reliability and security patches
Several documentation and configuration improvements from the AEON community

All users running nodes on the p2p network should update ASAP to prevent possible database corruption and loss of synchronization with the rest of the network.

Source code only for now. Binaries will be added when available.

Also, I hope the developers are not going to copy what Siacoin is doing.

LOL no. That was and is one of the shadiest things I've ever seen in crypto and that's saying a lot.

They started manufacturing their own ASICs.

Not only that. They manufacture their own ASICs and then use their position as devs of a supposedly decentralized coin to brick everyone else's ASICs to give their own for-profit company's ASICs a monopoly, while at the same time invoking Orwell to call them "community ASICs".

WTF.

There is zero value in p2p storage as of 2018-9...
Being cheaper than cheap is irrelevant if your data actually has value...
So they branched out into ASICs, but got completely outmaneuvered by various Big Players.

At least Sia has managed to retain > $100 million cap...
I see shadier stuff every day in cryptonote microcaps... like absurd "stablecoins", etc

Also, staying in the original algorithm before the switch would have helped us attain more hashrate.

Did you believe that the 112Mh hash rate from the ASICS was well spread out on the Aeon network pre-rebase?

Moving forward, The State of AeonTM for 11_18_2018 https://medium.com/@AEON_Community/the-state-of-aeon-11-18-2018-548ed8a8abd2

Maybe not in the beginning, however it will be spread out among different mining pools in the interest of the security of the project. Why would miners attack Aeon and waste their resources?

In any case, what is the consensus of Aeon's leadership and voting system?
