smooth, suggestions for ANN original post.

Remove pool https://aeon.rupool .tk/ as it now longer resolves to anywhere. [added space because forum filter flagged it]

Yes, similar to bitcoin. When a mining pool is close to having 51% of the hashrate, the community and the miners themselves call on some of them to mine in another mining pool.

Also, a similar situation can happen today without Asics.
By chance, sometimes I saw coins which had dominant hashrates (more than 60% or even higher) concentrated on one pool.
Of course, it's rarely scenario when all hashrates of the pool controlled by one address/ group / farm, but it is always a very bad signal of potential serious Replay Attacks.

This can also occur in GPU mined cryptocoins, however. 51% attacks are not exclusive incidents for Asic mined coins. Low hashrate coins are also easier to attack, that was why Aeon staying with the Asics might have been better.

Also, replay attacks? I reckon you do not know what it means. Replay attacks only occur when there is a fork in the blockchain, where transactions in the original chain can be replayed in the forked chain.

Can devs look if this is viable additional security measure against 51% attack?

If it is, I'm sure dev of this cryptonote coin would try to help adapt this patch for aeon. It is already asked by several cryptonote coins and he helped them with this and other issues.

>>We propose the solution to disallow cancelling transactions during a switch to the alternative chain by adding the consensus rule stating that “an alternative chain should contain all transactions from the chain it is to replace”.

>>This approach already helped to successfully withstand a 51% attack making it more secure and reliable not only without massive constant hashrate, but in the hostile hashrate environment, as it is still on original CryptoNight algorithm mineable by ASICs with lots of hashrate available for rent on Nicehash that was presumably used by the attacker during the failed attack.

Agreed and this is also true for bitcoin. However, you know more hashrate is better. The blockchain clearly is more secure and not as vulnerable to attackers who go from coin to coin using their GPU mining farms or rent hash power from Nicehash to attack altcoins.
More hashrates will only be better if they are spreaded around diversified mining pools.
Dominant hashrates concentrate on one or two pools are always a risk for network healthy condition.

You could mine. I estimate you would get roughly 500h/s on that CPU leading to you daily earnings of roughly 0.05 AEON per day.

I would consider them, by a moderate extent, similar if the hardware to mine cryptonight fast can also be used to mine cryptonight light. That would give it the possibility that we are open to 51% attacks because of our low hashrate.

Just a note that even with asics on your network, you are still open to 51% attacks.

It's a catch 22.

Hi, I have problem with wallet syncing. Using cli wallet, last synced august 2018, but now not working, what I need to do? TNX!

Make sure you are using the latest release: https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/releases/tag/v0.12.8.0-aeon

Depending on your operating system, try removing p2pstate.bin
Windows: C:\ProgramData\aeon
Linux:~/.aeon/

Once deleted, try synchronizing again.

If any errors, please submit issue to https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/issues

Haven't visited Aeon pools in a while, are the ASICS back since the hash rate spiked so much ??

I also noticed the volume is so low on Bittrex I'm afraid AEON could be delisted  Undecided
I'm going to buy some coins - as much as I have available funds, please do the same and support this great project and devs.
If Bittex announces the delisting - it will be too late then ...

Aeon won’t be delisted on bittrex.

Side note, Aeon is now officially included in Bisq 9.2 release today. https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq/releases/tag/v0.9.2

https://bisq.network/markets/?currency=aeon_btc

Props to camthegeek for his work porting aeon code over to bisq

Thanks.  Grin
