I do not really know what the purpose of this coin is, but until I find out I'll save coin my BTGs for the near future.

This is season of conferences,meetups and presentations from these bull run will come out and will the increase of whole cryptomarket BTG will also see surge in its price. Better do your own research instead of asking for updates and news. Dev is active on social media account and no activity into this forum that's why it is not possible to get accurate info about the progress of development.

The last attack was roughly six hours ago; we see no new attacks since then. We're glad to see that the exchanges reacted promptly to prevent the effectiveness of these attacks.

Looks like the BTG community is learning a hard lesson about the consequences of abandoning a multibillion USD investment in system security.
All Bitcoin forks are scam (including bCASH) made to make some people rich
Of course, in the case of Bitcoin Cash, 'some people' is defined as 'everyone who held Bitcoin on the Satoshi chain at the moment of fork'.
So in this context, your use of the word 'scam' does not meet any recognized definition.
