what is the dev plan?
There is a new Blackcoin client to be released in June with faster transaction times, better syncing to the network and the basics for smart contracts on the blockchain.
There is also Nighttrader in development by the Black Halo guy, which supposed to be a decentralized exchange using blockchain technology.
I propose the new name: Antares 
On a sidenote.. I am happy Rat got involved.
I read a notice in january of blackcoin, so there is a developer joshua bouw we wanted to get back involved.

Tt has been reworked over and over again and what you see today with Janko and everything else is a product of it. If you haven't forgotten that this is an open source project, not a company.

All of a sudden this became main thing to re-brand a well established coin? If you can send donation for this project then this certainly can help, everything else is speculative and will consume time and resources, but no insurance that this is it. DASH - DARK has good PR team and they invests lot in it.

to make things clear the price you see right now is not reflected by any progress made with blackcoin project, it's just that hype that carried all markets around, but just so you know the real big players still didn't invest in blk yet, that's why its not 100m market.
You have to understand that the only danger for it right now is the delisting from polo, and if it's coming for blk, it will kill it, definitely.
If you plan to do anything with the project just do it asap cause a delisting is coming, and I guess you have about a month to make things happen here.
I am voting for rebranding as well. the new name will create a different approach to blk atmosphere, (something more friendly will be needed here).
An example (not dash, blk won't be dash), $NAV, started as summercoin and changed its name to navajo than only nav. It's not a big market but this one managed to attract some big players, this one I could easy believe 100m market end of this year.
blk community is bigger and the tech here is better, the potential is great, please make things right and do it asap.

Blackcoin has been a coin of stability and innovation. By far the most cloned coin. I wouldn't mind if they become closed source.

In concerns to branding: I agree. I have played with the name Onyx and Carbon and like both. They also go with the theme and have none of the -coin in it. We as a community could make design and branding concepts or pitch in to hire a professional branding company and we all vote on which designs we like the most.

(In regards to if we don't hear from the devs, I guess I'm one of the strongest in the Blackcoin sphere in terms of branding since I have access to everything to make it possible.)

"Carbon" imo isn't a good choice. "Carbon emissions", "Carbon copy", etc.
Rebrand shouldn't have to do anything with the "black" ideology. Just my humble opinion, though.
Maybe we could raise a bounty for the best name? I'm willing to chip 136.84274725 BLK (so I round up my holdings ;p).

I do not see the problem with the current name so I would ask for a vote prior to any change. The members that visit Bitcointalk are only a small fraction of the coin holders and not practically representative of the whole. The community is spread across many mediums, IRC & Slack & Bitcointalk to name only a few.
I do not think that we should be holding Dash's change as a sole example of "proof it works". More was involved than JUST a name change, we have to keep that in mind.
No Bounty should be used! That brings greedy people and often only OneTimers. If you want suggestions it should be done by those that care about THE coin, not just by those that care about COINS (do you see my meaning?)
We have always been the Dark horse in the crypto-game, and would like to see some reasoning as to why someone would *not* this coin for any practical purpose (ie the statement "Realistically, no one is going to use a platform called Blackcoin for child support payments." )
A name that relates to it as a passive income source (5% interest, 1% inflation), and it's energy efficiency/environmental friendliness (can be mined on a Raspberry Pi), would be nice.
