A few days ago I asked if any one was working on an iTunes-style music store:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/is-there-an-itunes-style-store-that-accepts-bitcoin-74436

And now it's here! I will definitely refer people to this when it has more music on it. Perhaps MaxMin will upload his music to it.

I did see that post Amincd and as happens a few times a week I thought "coinDL's going to work great for that!" I've posted to Max Min's form and hope he responds as his music definitely needs to before available.

Thanks for answering all my questions - if I can figure out any digital content I own that folks might buy, I'll give it a try. As a potential customer, I'm turned off by vague services that don't fully explain how they work (and there seems to be a _lot_ of that in the Bitcoin world), so your answers add a lot of confidence in your service. I'd recommend putting them on the site (but I understand you're probably swamped with starting it all up). Best wishes.

I'm wondering why someone doesn't start a service where they offer a download service with two rules:
- the site wont check what the file is
- the site doesn't allow file names, every file gets an unique ID and that's it

Then you'd need to have another site owned by someone else, maybe hidden via TOR with a forum where each ID is matched with a description.

I wonder if such a site could keep plausible deniability of knowing what is hosted on their servers to allow anything to be sold without being attacked by the government?
This is a very interesting idea Cheesy

I like the way this is set up (but haven't actually used it yet). Can you elaborate on:

Great questions all and no you're not missing anything. Some of it is answered once you register but not all. I'll make that information more visible soon.

Can seller specify price?

Yes, you are free to choose your own price as long as it's under $50. Prices can be set in BTC or in USD with the prices being automatically adjusted against mtgoxlast every hour. When you see a popup after clicking buy, that price has been locked in for you for 24 hours.

What is our take?

We are introducing the service with selling fee of 20% across the board. This is competitive with other download markets and includes hosting, bandwidth, SEO and marketing of the site, as well as first-class support for buyers and sellers.

How long does a listing last?

Listings do not have an expiration date. They will stay up until the seller or coinDL takes them down.

Can the seller remove a listing?

Yes, you can currently activate and deactivate items at will with immediate effect. We will however allow those who purchased an item to download as long as they have any of their 5 download times left regardless of whether the item has been deactivated or removed.

How and when is the seller paid?

We pay 48 to 72 hours after a sale is made directly to the seller's Bitcoin address.

What are your guidelines on what can be listed?

It needs to be something you have the rights to and no porn, obscene, or illegal material. As far as what types of items...here's a list of categories we currently have in the system:

Apps, Audioboks, Avatars, CAD/3D Models, eBooks, eMagazines, Games, Graphics, Music, Photography, Podcasts, Ringtones, Software, Wallpapers, Videos.

Let me know if there something else you'd like to list and I'll see if it makes sense.

  • Can seller specify price?
  • What is your take? Percent of each sale?
  • How long does a listing last?
  • Can the seller remove a listing?
  • How/when is the seller paid?
  • What are your guidelines on what can be listed?

More info on the site would be welcome (unless I'm missing something). Thanks for this promising service!

Hey Dave,

Cool website!

I just tried it out, and have a few comments/suggestions

1- Very clean and smooth, I clicked 'buy' and a little popup appeared, sent my payment, and within seconds got a download option! I like the email receipt option as well.
2- Can you add a bulk download option? I'd like to be able to select a few things and send 1 payment when I'm down.
3- Content. What kind of content do you propose for this website? Are we allowed to upload our own?

Also, I wanted to point out that I'm really impressed that out of all the Bitcoin businesses, ExchB and Bitinstant were the only ones I could find registered as an MSB

Again, nice site, looking forward to see how it progresses.

Neat new logo there Charlie. I'll definitely note the bulk/combined download option.

As for content, you can upload anything you own the rights to. There is a sales agreement and verification process for that. I'm definitely looking forward to helping anyone who wants to sell their music, graphics, whatever. I'll post a list of categories that are currently available if anyone's interested.

You are asking too much informations during the registration Tongue
I can see that but you may appreciate that we reserve blood and tissue sampling for large, established record companies. Tongue

Hello all,

It is my great pleasure to announce a new digital download marketplace called CoinDL.

Over the past several months I spent a lot of time talking with others in the community and thinking about Bitcoin: what it really needs, what would truly be a game changer, and about Bitcoin's unique strengths. It's time to play to Bitcoin's strengths!

Taking stock of the massive number of tools Bitcoiners have developed, it's clear that Bitcoin is ready to be the foundation for a new economy. It is time now to enable people to earn Bitcoin just like they currently earn dollars, euros, and yen. It is time now to demonstrate the possibilities, providing something people are already familiar with in a new and simple, even magical way.

The service features a purchase process that you have to try to believe. Just click, send and download all within seconds. All that's required is that you have some (even a tiny bit) of Bitcoin available somewhere.

At launch, the CoinDL store is stocked with several exclusive Bitcoin-related items including a song, wallpapers, avatars and a pretty awesome ringtone that has kept me and mine entertained ever since we started listening to it.

Even if you hate Bitcoin, you can't defend yourself against music's infectiousness. Is it possible that Bitcoin can enable a revolution of culture as well as payment?

https://www.coindl.com

Micropayments, an affiliate program, fast transactions, gift and coupon codes, no privacy risk, and a clean-simple interface all made to the soothe the savage geek.

Any questions? Post here or email [email protected]

Thanks,

weex
