Wat
Contacted a punk band I know here in Aus to see if they want to sell some stuff.

On the issue of getting content and prepaying artists to do so this might be a good opportunity to raise some funding Smiley

A few updates:

1)  CoinDL got some new stuff today including a funny wallpaper ( https://www.coindl.com/page/item/189 ) and a newly-collected album from thricefoldedcloak called "Skip This Album" ( https://www.coindl.com/page/item/191 )

2) "Skip This Album" was another album for which previews and sub-items were automatically created from an uploaded zip file. Obviously lots of the massaging of content needs to be automated.

3) On the development front, I've sent out the first free newsletter and you can sign up for it at http://eepurl.com/lEWpX

4) This is pretty cool... Bitmit has agreed to put a link to CoinDL in all of their Digital Goods cateogories. For example: http://bitmit.net/en/shop/c/22-digital-goods and in return we've added a link at the bottom of our home page in case any of our visitors aren't satisfied with fully virtual goods.

Are you asking to be able to just embed a button that uses the same process or are you looking to store and deliver the files yourself?

I was thinking about that first option but would like that latter one too if it could be done where
the directory url wouldn't be exposed allowing anyone to go there and grab the files there.

Thanks for the idea. I think the first one is doable and fits well with the general operation of the site. The second one is probably best done as a separate project completely.

Slick.  I just bought "Bitcoin - What It Is and Why It Matters" by sending BTC to the address.  I tried the Buy Now button but Chrome tried to pop open my Armory wallet which I don't use.  Anyway to change the default?

Thx.
The default client doesn't have support for those types of Bitcoin URLs.... Yet.

Well etotheipi will be pleased...this should be set by your OS and if there's no handler it'll just go to a blank page. Might have an intermediate page if I hear of people getting confused. It's probably best to copy/paste until Bitcoin-QT or your other client can register itself as the handler.

The sales widget has been released this morning. https://www.coindl.com/widget

Nice!  Are you planning on doing more with this?

Like giving people the ability to configure it for themselves to help it fit in with their
own site's style.

For example what if someone has a gallery ( e.g. nextgen gallery in wordpress ) of
photos and they just want to put one of those "buy now" buttons under each picture..
with perhaps the title or maybe just the price... or maybe just the button... or some
combination of the various elements... but something minimal.

This may be getting closer to something I can use.

CoinDL is currently handling the entire purchase and delivery process for the items that are on the site or in this widget. Are you asking to be able to just embed a button that uses the same process or are you looking to store and deliver the files yourself? With something like a gallery that may have bulk inventory changes I can see how the latter might make sense. Please expand.

Thanks Stephen for your concern on pricing. There are many ways to succeed with CoinDL but dropping the price at this stage is not the best one. Getting more content of course and continuing to build out the basic features are the priorities.

On the development front, I've been working on a sales widget which is almost complete.

I've also added a notification preference for signed-in users(visible on Dashboard, My Account etc) as my hope is to send out a periodic one-pager highlighting artists, authors, and developments with the site. I have a rough format for that newsletter if anyone would like to help write a first issue. (PM me if so)

Finally at the bottom of every page you'll see a link to the IRC channel for the site. #CoinDL on freenode is where you can go if you want to chat about music/art/other downloads or about the site itself. PM me if you'd like to be an op there as I figure someone other than myself should be.

Thanks,

Thanks for everyone that has bought the Alco album so far. We've gotten a lot of awesome feedback from the bitcoin community. If you haven't checked us out yet here is the link to our album on CoinDL.

Gumroad works worldwide with all major credit cards, and can be used for digital content as well as for physical content, since it lets users collect shipping information if needed. Gumroad takes a 5 percent fee for every payment processed, along with a 25 cent credit card fee. So if an item costs $1, Gumroad takes 30 cents; if an item costs $10, Gumroad takes 75 cents.

Comparing CoinDL:

If an item costs $1, CoinDL takes 20 cents;  (versus Gumroad taking 30 cents)  Advantage CoinDL.
If an item costs $10, CoinDL takes $2.00; (versus Gumroad taking $0.75).  Advantage Gumroad.

This difference is something that is noticed.   Example:

CoinDL doesn't have any serious Bitcoin competitors.  If there was one, then prices would likely drop accordingly.  But without one, anyone who wants to sell digital goods for Bitcoins is hard pressed to find another solution that works as well as CoinDL.

Just wanted to let people know CoinDL now supports Bitcoin URIs so a new Buy Now button and QR code format have been added. Thanks to etothipi for highlighting this opportunity.

Also, there appears to be a problem with the Music listing not showing a second page so my apologies to those whose music isn't showing up in that listing. It'll be fixed asap.

damnek, for the last time, no you may not buy the template for your typo-squatting enterprise. Smiley

Seriously though, are there any specific changes you recommend?

Weex, I like the idea of your site, but I think it needs a more professional look. The combination of colors and fonts gives me the feeling I just landed on a typo-squatted page.
